Guilford welcomes a new assistant coach in Offensive Coordinator Dan Baranik.  I don't have a full bio, but for now suffice it to say he's a Pennsylvania native and has been, among other stops, the Receivers coach at West Point.

Welcome to Guilford, Dan.  Good luck!

I hope that the off season has been good to all. We have about 62 days and a wakeup before kickoff 2010. I am very excited about the upcoming season. What little I know is that Sydney lost a bunch, the Quakers are rebuilding, W&L... I don't know! Catholic is rebuilding, Macon...who knows??? Eagles are picked 23 by Lindy's.... and so on. Granted...This is a fan and a Dad... I am the eternal optomist. The Waspers are going to be good. I am not predicting an ODAC Ring, but, I think that they will be good. He is why... Jennings will be back. Also, good talent in the back field to support him.  Lost a great tight end...but, tow sophs and junior are waiting. O-Line.. lost two, but red shirt 5 year man (injuried last year) will back back at rt tackle. Returners have experience. BUT... depth is lacking. Coach Monty feels pretty good about the "D". Lost some talent, but kept some talent...

What c'hall got?

WM...Wasper Dad..!!

Have a good happy birthday America for all you ODACians. And nothing is more American than football!! Besides beating Ferrum. :)

Question...Did E&H running back Caleb Jennings graduate? I thought he did, but I am now thinking this will be his Senior season.

Just joking. it goes back to the 70's when Hank Norton was there. Respect for the Panthers is there but there is a loathing.  :D

What's the outlook for Hampton-Sydney in 2010.  Knowing the Averett program, I think Cougars will probably be off to an 0 - 1 start.

I see they have 2 preseason All-Americans (Safety & DE).  What about the offensive?  They lost Sedlar, is Lane the new QB?  How's he match up to Sedlar?

Well I got there in '78, never played for Hank, but was one of the equipment managers my first year. I can tell you he was a tough old bird, who knew his football, and really cared about the kids. I am sure there are a lot out there with the same sentiments, as in those days, they were a powerhouse. Norton ended with a 244-77-11 record and four NJCAA championships, and while he left a lot of teams on the short end of the stick, he did provide a consistent winning approach.

With the move to D3, all is different. Very difficult to imagine that those days of national recognition will ever return....too much competition, and tuitions are way too high...I think Ferrum will be over 32K this year.

Loathing is part of the fun of being a fan...no concerns from me...I guess I will keep hoping Ferrum will be competitive this year, but know they will probably be about 5-5 again.  As for my loathing, I will have to say that I try to keep it to a minimum, but I think I would have my season made if Ferrum just beat CNU....at CNU!!!

Come on Allen C. You loath Lees-McRae if your a Panther.  ;)

Hank really had some animals in the 70's. I could not wait to play them. there was always something violent going on. And that was before the games started. LOL

When they came down to LMC they walked down into our pit and started talking smack. Of course Hank and coach Maxum started talking smack and it was on. How do you get flags before the game?

Aw..... the days of when you really hated the other teams in a respectful way. I do miss it.... not football. Playing Ferrum.

QB Carlos Gonzalez transfers from 1-A Florida International to Bridgewater. He has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

I was gratified to see that Jeff Burns, a fraternity brother and tireless R-MC supporter, was finally promoted to the AD position at Randolph-Macon.  Well done Macon!  We have the right guy for this position! 8-)
