Abnrgr and HSC85-Both great posts-I'm well aware of the TEXTBOOK way to stop the option and also the way great teams have to play to get thru the dregs of the regular season. To say that there were probably some missed assignments on the part of the Jackets on defense saturday is an understatement to say the least!! I also think that both Bridgewater and HSC definitely have the moxie and the intensity to take away what W&L does best and make them pass-which will ultimately beat them.I have also said repeatedly that when I have watched HSC they always seem to rise to the occasion on defense when they need to-a "bend but not break" defense.I did not watch the game saturday(my computer at home is not fast enough and I didn't wanna spend the $7 to see it)but listened to it and our announcers said ALOT that W&L got pitches and got outside repeatedly, which should be containable.I realize that at some point they will break a couple, but we didn't stop them AT ALL!When Faulkner got hurt it took the teeth out of our passing game, too, and that also hurt our run game because the Gennies just concentrated on that first and when we had to pass we couldn't do it very effectively and thus couldn't come back.Even if we could have it would have been difficult at best because we couldnt stop them and keep them from scoring so we could catch up-Kind of like what happened to the Redskins last night-they couldn't stop Peyton until the very end and it beat them,too!Anyways-sorry for the long post! Good luck to both BC and HSC stopping the W&L surge!

I just noticed the injury of Chris Norton of Luther. I kept looking at the picture and not reading.

That makes two spinal injuries this past week. The young man from Rutgers was hurt too. I hope these are the last for the year. I just paused for a moment to think of all the head leading tackles I made over those years not to mention my own kids.....

As a sport we are lucky this is not a daily thing

We are praying for you Chris....

I have mulling my RMC pick over in mind. Patton told Lucian Truscott  "do not take counsel of your fears" but I have a feeling that RMC better not be asleep at the switch because GC-Q could be playing on nothing to lose MO.

Then again..... it could be another Tuetoburg Forest.  :)

The Richmond Times reported this morning that R-MC's Faulkner is out for season with a broken leg.  Gonna be a tough road the rest of the way for the Jackets

RMC08

Shout out to the RMC offensive line who paved the way for two 100+ rushers yesterday in the 59-21 shalacking of Guilford yesterday.  Nice bounce back yesterday.

Faulkner...thanks for your contributions to the resurgance of rmc football.  We appreciate it.

Well, on a scale of thorough beat-downs, I guess it's better to get a "shalacking" rather than the more traditional "shellacking."  Good luck also to Mr. Faulkner.  He has definitely contributed to the resurgence of RMC football if not the "resurgance" of spelling or the redundancy of "yesterday."

On another note, there is a correlation between the lack of strength of your football program and the number of homecoming games you play each season.  Thank goodness for basketball and golf!

HSC85

I don't know about the homecoming games.  HSC played a Parents Weekend and two homecoming games in the three game road trip earlier this season.  More to your point though, my son's highschool team played 4 of 5 away games as homecoming games his Senior year.  The team was 1-9.

Basketball season is almost here.

I know Jacketlawyer-I didn't find out he was out until I got to Ashland Saturday, either.I feel for him-he was having such a great season, too. The Sellers kid played ok but threw two picks-It helps when you have 2 kids who run for over 100yds and your defense is all over the place.Hasa-I feel your pain........but when roundball gets here NOBODY wants to see your boys come to town!!I saw and talked to alot of our B-ball guys and alumni saturday,as alot of them are frat brothers of mine-I think we'll be tough, but the WHOLE CONFERENCE is gonna be tough-if we're not the best b-ball conference in the country top to bottom I'll be surprised.Still alot of football to play,though.......and W&L controls their destiny right now, along with those pesky Tigers!!Gonna be a great finish!

Well, hopefully with this weekend off and some hard work on the practice field, Sellers will be ready to go for these final and very tough two games.  Sounds like the defense did well on Saturday.  We CAN win these last two games, but the question is will we. ???

0-10. Not a good thing. GC-Q needs to do something but not sure what. You got to ask why a college football team gets (historically) shelled year end and year out. From about 2000-2004 they had coordinators that were 1 to 2 years removed from playing. Problematic to say the least having players coaching players. Past 6-4 seasons now seem like national championship runs in comparision

Facilities are now top notch. Coaching seems seasoned but the last head coach was a stud but did not have half the tools they have now. So what is it?

They are looking at about 70 points being laid on them this week with HSC coming in. HSC from memory has never held back on GC-Q. CU is the only possibility but even with them losing they are laying points on people. Hurts the conference for pool B and C bids.  Well I am not sure what either means but sounds like wild cards.

Depressing for all concerned.

Well, abnrgr, the facilitites are there.  Other than a fieldhouse adjacent to the stadium, I'm not sure what else the alumni and other donors can provide.  The real problem seems to be with player retention ... and that's not with the overall school ... it seems to be specific to the football team.  Overall student retention is about 87%, but it's clearly not there with the football program.  If GCQ brings in 50-60 kids in August, then there's a big disconnect with the 5-8 fourth year players on the field on Senior Day in November.  You cannot consistently win with freshman and sophomores when a school like HSC is fielding a mature team, year in and year out, with 25 or more seniors.

This week's game with Sydney is on the road in Farmville.  After that, we have Catholic for Homecoming on the 6th and then E&H away on the 13th.

Jacketlawyer-There's absolutely no question we can win the last two games but someone on here will have to help me with what the ODAC tiebreaker system is-even if we win both of our games and W&L wins out they win no matter what......but if HSC beats the Gennies and we beat HSC(which is a HUGE if)I don't know what happens. There's absolutely no question that our running game helps us tremendously playing with a sophomore QB with 1 start under his belt(so far) and I know Coach Arruza will use the running game as much as he can to offset the inexperience of Sellers, who has played wide receiver most of the year before Faulkner went down.If I were an opposing defensive coordinator, however,I would stack it up to stop our running game and make us win with the pass-which, I'm sure we will see.We do have Earl Peoples, however,IMHO the best receiver in the ODAC and one of the best in the nation-but he will have to also expect a healthy dose of double coverage from here on out.QB play ,as well as our defense, will tell the tale. With the exception of the W&L game our defense has been very good-how well we do from here on out will depend on those two-Go Jackets!
