The Guilford game against HSC was a very entertaining game to say the least.  There was over 1300 yards of offense!  I've never seen anything quite like that before!  It was like watching an Arena League game.

You're right.  It was a lot like Arena ball.  Fun to watch, but the bottom line was we still lost.  :(

Hopefully, the school will get a great list of candidates and make an informed and thoughtful decision.  I know several former lettermen who've asked to be a part of the selection committee.

Yeah Kiesel's first year HSC game was a crazy one. Vogelbach didn't start because he had a concussion and we started by running the option with Langston starting at QB. I asked the safety from HSC about that game later in the year and he couldn't believe that we came back.

Well I hope they make an educated decision this time and leave it up to the athletic department to chose the next coach. I know the last time someone else made the decision and it was a disaster.

Thanks Quakes, I'll pass to him

I think Quakes pretty much summed what was wrong. Jesus Joseph and Mary..........

HASA nails it too. Cannot have 7 seniors every year......Lets hope George O'Leary has his resume "fixed"

Something systemic for sure

Well lets pull for those Bow Ties and Tigrs for now......

Down here in Orlando... O'Leary is not the answer!

40 years later....can the Tigers play Montclair St with a chip on their shoulder? Taken from the 1971 H-S press guide.

Tracy Powers dove over from the one yard line with 8 minutes to play. The Bengal two-point gamble for a win was thwarted on a very controversial call.  Ricky Beale passed to Bobby Long for what appeared to be a successful conversion, but the officials ruled that Montclair St. had intercepted.

GO TIGERS!!!

Allsky7,

I hope they play with a chip on their shoulder.  This will be the toughest game that they have had all year.  Let's hope they can get up for it. HSC has the ability to win.

There are a few of us Generals fans around, although by and large you'd probably get a better response to lacrosse than football from the W&L crowd. Hopefully that will change with the better results we've been getting lately and hopefully with the better facilities on campus we'll keep getting better results. That being said, we still only have 7 seniors starting both sides of the ball, which is all too common for the W&L program.

You'll see a lot of triple option out of us. I only got to one game this year since I live down in Birmingham, but what I saw was consistent. It's also pretty consistent with what I have seen the last few years including our first DIII playoff appearance in '05. Sadly that did not end well. Hopefully your field will play a little better than the Wilkes mud pit did that year. Not really Wilkes fault since they got 12 inches of rain in 2 days before the game, but that field was very geared toward their big slow boys mashing up our small fast ones.

Here's hoping for a good game. It's been a real joy to follow the Generals this year as they worked through a slow start to what can only be described as a surprising season.

looks like a couple of the experts are picking W&L.. I'm not sure what to expect., but I know historically Thomas More has prided thsemselves on stopping the run... and the team speed on defense is very very good.  I'm assuming that W&L has great team speed as well, so I think the difference makers in this game are the TMC defensive ends... Volker and Smith... they are very good, BUT haven't seen the option in a game yet this season.  They see it from the spread in practice, as TMC runs it..  If they have a big day, they'll allow Gramke and the other LBs to scrapeand hopefully force your QB to pitch outside where its one on one with the DBs.

Offensively, Thomas MOre will get big plays.  I just really hope they start fast and make W&L uncomfortable.  In the 1-2 start, did W&L have to go away from the option or is it boom or bust?  Frankly, facing the option scares me... TMC could big play the Generals to death, but if they don't stop the option, its going to be a see-saw affair.

Saintsfan,

W&L runs a very consistant option attack.  They have very few negative yardage plays.  They are very comfortable with long ball control multiple play drives.  I think if they get behind by more than a couple of scores they will become uncomfortable.  During their winning streak they have not been behind by more than 7 points in a game.  Their defense made some very athletic plays against HSC.  They are a balanced team with respect to offensive and defensive strength.

I was surprised by the variety of attack points that their option offense made.  They attacked the defense at multiple points and not just your standard triple option points.

Thanks for the note, HSC85...  Thomas More knows they'll have a battle on their hands... Sounds very disciplined to me.  Hopefully Thomas More can jump to a big lead like usual and then play the pass.  Sounds easy enough to us, we are typing on a message board.  I'll be happy with a clean, well-played game where nobody gets hurt.

I think it'll be tough to call. There just isn't anything to really base a comparison on. I have no idea how the game will go, I just hope it goes better than our outing against Wilkes.

As for the 2 losses, it comes down to bad football. It's a young team and early in the season they didn't have the timing right and made mistakes both sides of the ball. From what I can tell, our discipline really picked up as the season went on. We rarely commit penalties and don't miss our offensive marks. Defensively we are +13 or so on turnovers, with 5 coming against H-S. If we ball hawk well and use the clock in long drives, it'll be a long day for you. If we can't and the d is on the field, I think we'll wear down and it's going to be a long day for us.

The thing I'm afraid of is size. I remember coming out to the field at Wilkes and we looked like midgets compared to their boys. Once we got on the field, we were just out muscled in the mud. I have to think if the field plays quick that will help us out, but with nothing to base it on I'm just flying blind. Running the option is our ace in the hole as it takes more than a couple days to learn to defend it well.
