See the front page of d3football.com - John Carroll and St. Norbert open in Ireland - now that's an interesting away game!

wesleydad

Yeah, your comparative strength and the lack of teams in the ACFC make it tough for the Wolverines.  Well, the schedule's set for 2011 and coming off an 0-10 campaign, I think I know where Guilford stands for now.  lol  Hopefully, the new coach will build it back up.  With his background at Ursinus, maybe he can get us a couple of nonconference games in the CC and surrounding areas.

Wesley Dad is right...but letting a Wolverine (a particularly nasty little brute) in the front door might cause damage inside.... :)

For 2011, I think we need some nonconference games against teams we "may" have a chance.  For morale's sake, we don't need a 63-0 beatdown against a Top 8 team this year.  :)

I agree with your Hasa. I just wanted to get a jab in at Wesley.  :)

But they would cause some damage in Greesnsboro. Hell they been tough since my memories of them in the 70's when my I ran into them

Let the recruiting begin - a couple of Central Davidson HS players commit to Guilford.

Thanks for this. :)  Sometimes I think I get too caught up in the sports aspect of the ODAC, when the real point of all the colleges is to educate fine young ladies and gentlemen to go out into the world to walk it as they talk it.  Ms. Anderson definitely did, by all accounts.

I thought I would share this with all of you ODAC folks over here.  I have a son who seems to potentially be a pretty good football player.  Mind you, he has three years of  high school football to play.  He and his best buddy (who is a QB in football, and really good LAX player) have said they want to try to go to college together and play football.  I have been pushing them towards D-III schools early, so they don't get that "I'm too good to play at that level" mentality.  My son has attended Mount games with me for quite a few years, so he somewhat knows better.

Anyway, more than one person recommended W & L as a great school for a kid to play football, and possibly LAX.  I checked into the school, campus, program, etc...and was very impressed.  I sent an email to Coach Miribella (sp), about my son and his friend, and what I was attempting to do.  He responded back within a few days with a very friendly, and informative email.  I certainly appreciated how quickly he got back to me, and what he had to say.

The shocking thing to me was the basic academic requirements he indicated that MOST students attending W & L, and playing football needed to have.  The grade point average of at least 3.5, and top 10% of your class, with AP courses seemed reasonable, and was expected.  However, he also indicated that an ACT score of 29 was also what they were looking to see.  HOLY SMOKES!  My son basically responded to that challenge with the following....."so what other collegess are there to consider?"   ;D

W & L obviously has some really intelligent, bright players.  All I can say is darn....I was really looking forward to all that wine and cheese, and beautiful compus.   8-)

HSC85

Skunks,

W&L has the highest admissions requirements of any school in the ODAC.  All of the schools are probably above average when it comes to admission requirements but W&L is in a higher bracket.  While I am partial to Hampden-Sydney College, there are multiple options for young men to play football and lacross in the ODAC.  As you probably know, the ODAC conference champion earns an automatic birth in the NCAA championship for both football and lacross.  My son recently finished a football career at an ODAC school and he got a great education while continuing to play the sport that he loves for a few more years.  I wish your son and his friend great success with whatever they choose to pursue.

Hey, skunks.  To back up what HSC85 said, W&L is, without question, the highest ranked academic institution in the ODAC ... and they have far and away the largest endowment as well.  It's Virginia "old money", but they attract a national and international student body.  I've visited the campus many times and it is beautiful.  To HSC85's point, however, there are many fine (and decidedly above average) colleges in the ODAC and four of those play both football and lacrosse.  In addition to W&L, I'm sure schools like Guilford, Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon might all be great choices for your son.  Good luck to the next Jim Brown!

Hasa - familiar with Guillford & Greensboro as I spend time down in "Furniture Land" for work, and most of my relatives now live in the Raleigh/Durham area.  I think I have spent more time on I-40 between Winston-Salem and Raleigh than just about any other highway that is not in Ohio.

Thanks for the info.....I guess time will tell what kind of player & student jr. ends up being.

Well, Guilford's improved their football facility considerably the past few years - hope the new football coach can improve the competitiveness.  Lacrosse in the 8-team ODAC is tough, as 3-4 teams are usually nationally ranked.  Hope your son makes the best choice for him!

I lived in the Raleigh-Durham area twice for a total of 16 years, so I know both the Triangle and the Triad quite well.  I-40's my road also.  lol
