Kid,

Welcome back.  I just wanted to offer some observations on the HSC playoff games the past two years.  Both years they were coming off an emotional rivalry win over RMC.  I think both years the team came out flat and did not recover.  I do not offer it as an excuse only an observation.  To get to the next level and be considered a top flight program they will have to solve that problem.  They are not the only team to enter the playoffs after a rivalry game.  I would say that the HSC teams have been the most consistently good in the ODAC over the past 4 years.  They will have to continue and then start winning in the playoffs to lift their profile further.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Hasa - you are commended for your Guilford loyalty.
It's not easy being a Guilford fan in football, but there are the occasional bright spots.  I've never been one to jump on the bandwagon only after a team starts winning.  :)

any news/information regarding football recruits to the ODAC schools ? I've seen the info provided by Hasa regarding the GC program but have not heard/seen info on the remaining ODAC schools.
What is everyone's best guess as to how the ODAC will play out this year? Are W&L & HSC the front runners or is another team favored to win the conference?

HSC85,

Glad to see some familiar faces on here!

Your observation is a great one. I would even add that the RMC game acted as a first round playoff, seeing it was most likely win or no postseason. So very impressive for HSC, and even Macon, to perform at such a high level in a rivalry game with postseason on the line.

As a BC fan, I wanted to cheer for the ODAC in the playoffs since 2006. Just disappointing going 0-6 since then, losing by an average score of 37-9. BC on the other hand had 10 playoff wins (plus 2 first round byes). You can see why us BC fans have higher expectations than just winning our rivalry game and the conference. It's all about flexing muscle on the national stage.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

16-14 is not exactly a walloping. However, the Tigers need to do better than to lose in the opening round 2 years running.

Averaging 35 a game during the season, hosting Montclair first round, not scoring until the 4th: not walloped, but very disappointing.

Here we go again... now we just need CJ Smart back and we'll be set for an old school run on the boards.

Fitting that Matt is back during the 10th anniversary of the BC Stagg Bowl Run.  ;D

Now you're starting to sound like Kermit the Frog.  (It's not easy being green...)

How funny you should say that - that's exactly what I was thinking when I typed it.  lol

Haha. Was it the BCAC that CJ came up with? Don't get me wrong, I love stirring the pot on here. But the "Bridgewater College Athletic Conference" talk took it to another level.

I'm back posting because I simply wanted BC back in the discussion (literally). The Eagles will have to prove themselves on the field to figuratively get back in the discussion.

2011 will be a challenging year with new faces, especially on offense. I like the options at QB, and we have quite a few weapons at WR and RB to collectively help replace Beiler. Our defense looks solid.

I think that the more years that go by without the ODAC winning a playoff game the more impressive the Bridgewater teams of the early 2000s look.  Except for a couple of games they were rarely challenged in conference games.  I fell that the ODAC now has more "good" teams but there is certianly along way to go to have a team reach the level of the 2000-05 Bridgewater teams.

HSC will have some pretty good players returning on the offensive side of the ball including the QB and some good OL.  However, on defense there are many holes to fill.  They need to replace 7 or 8 starters on defense.

The schedule does break better for HSC with Bridgewater and W&L at home.

I am not normally given to battering the players.  But he has recruited 4 players from 1/2 A programs.  AL Brown was a big 3 A school. I just cannot believe that Guilford will not go to the coast where there are some 3/4 A schools that have consistent playoff histories. And not to mention a ton of speed. The competition level at 1/2 A is not the same. Could any four these guys even start for let's say New Bern, Bertie, Tarboro, or Havelock who pump out at least a couple DI players a year. I do not know. Admittedly kickers are normally good or bad no matter where they play. DIII may not be the ACC but everybody in DIII brings the hat.

But I would focus on some of the larger schools that have CONSISTENT winning histories. I know there are "restrictions" at the Dean of Admissions level but they have to give this guy some help. Throw him a bone!
