I am not normally given to battering the players.  But he has recruited 4 players from 1/2 A programs.  AL Brown was a big 3 A school. I just cannot believe that Guilford will not go to the coast where there are some 3/4 A schools that have consistent playoff histories. And not to mention a ton of speed. The competition level at 1/2 A is not the same. Could any four these guys even start for let's say New Bern, Bertie, Tarboro, or Havelock who pump out at least a couple DI players a year. I do not know. Admittedly kickers are normally good or bad no matter where they play. DIII may not be the ACC but everybody in DIII brings the hat.

But I would focus on some of the larger schools that have CONSISTENT winning histories. I know there are "restrictions" at the Dean of Admissions level but they have to give this guy some help. Throw him a bone!

I hear you.  He's been on board since January and the program's coming off an 0-10 season, so he may be swimming upstream a bit on this first recruiting class.  It'll probably take him a little more time to build his coaching contacts within NCHSAA.  Sometimes you get that rare find within 1A/2A, but I agree, 3A/4A are where the speed and size usually reside.

HSC85

I agree with both of you guys about where to look for recruits.  In the late 90's HSC was only recruiting in the private schools or the small schools in VA.  The team was not competitive.  When Coach Favret arrived on the seen, he added a high school coach to his staff from a AAA Division 6 school in the Richmond area and the level of player that they were getting has consistantly improved.  I am sure the new coach at Guilford knows where he wants to recruit.  I hope he gets there. Each school in the ODAC is in better shape when every school is competitive.

Agree.  Ironically, one of the issues with Guilford's recruiting seems to be it's in one of the bigger metro areas in the state and local kids don't always want to stay home for college or to play.  The ODAC is better when Guilford (and all members) is competitive.

AT least one school is putting out some info on its recruits.  Any news from the other ODAC schools?

Agreed, I wish RMC did this.  Not sure why they and others don't?  Are there rules about announcing recruits, other than needing a deposit in hand?

I did not check but the other schools have a SID for that. Correct?

It's just Hasanova posting here quickly as he is watching for those releases; so his bookie in Kansas City can start giving points early ;)

I also think he has a mole in the GC-Q's SID office.

First, Guilford has an excellent SID in Dave Walters - he does a super job.

Second, perhaps I am the bookie in Kansas City.

Third, I have moles everywhere.  :)

i think most don't because d3 commitments are non-binding...most coaches probably don't want to release this information until they see them in camp for fear that other coaches will step up the recruiting efforts - i suspect that guilford has vetted these recruits pretty closely before releasing this information, as well, since they've only released info on 15...i'm sure they've got a lot more than 15 deposits from football players

i recall reading a comment from a d1 coach who said that a recruit who gave a verbal commitment to another school  "just made us aware of who our recruiting competition was"...an enrollment deposit is only a shade more concrete than a verbal commitment for some

abnrgr

Oh Narch

You do make sense since I tried to get my kid to transfer over to Coach E even after he played at GC-Q. I interfered with the recruiting process. LOL

Allow me to be the ... fifth, I think ... to welcome Matt back to the boards! The ODAC has missed you.

My wallet has missed him and Mr. Cummings on poker nights at Stone Station!  :D :D :D

ps. talk about digging into the archives :o

Why here is the legend himself, far cry from playing poker at the Stone Station tent hours before a night game at Shentel Stadium. LOL!

Congrats to Travis Lane QB-HSC, Luke Heinsohn RB-W&L, Dominic Jeter DT-BC & Andrew Ouellette KR-CUA for making the preseason CDS (Consensus Draft Services) Preseason All-American Team.

Thanks 98. One thing I did notice the defenders are much smaller than the offense. The defense only has one hog tipping the 295+ scale. The LBs must be blazing in speed
