What does the first week have in store for the ODAC ?I'm assuming Guilford opens with their big cross town rival. Any other match-ups of interest ?
You are correct, Guilford opens at Greensboro.  Here's the full 9/3 ODAC slate with last year's records in parentheses:

St. Vincent Bearcats, Presidents' (0-10) @ Bridgewater Eagles, ODAC (8-2)
Catholic Cardinals, ODAC (4-6) @ McDaniel Green Terror, Centennial (5-5)
Ferrum Panthers, USASAC (4-6) @ Emory & Henry Wasps, ODAC (5-5)
Guilford Quakers, ODAC (0-10) @ Greensboro, USASAC (2-8)
Averett Cougars, USASAC (5-5) @ Hampden-Sydney Tigers, ODAC (9-2)
Methodist Monarchs, USASAC (2-8) @ Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets, ODAC (7-3)
Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, Centennial (6-5) @ Washington & Lee Generals, ODAC (8-3)

The three of most interest to me are the ones bolded above. I have a feeling Guilford is going to break its losing streak. F&M will be a pretty stiff test for the Generals (who also have a chance to break their losing streak to the Dips). And I'm going to be down in Emory to see what Ferrum's new head coach can do in a good rivalry matchup.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

I heard Guilford was supposed to scrimmage Bluefield State College (WV) in Greensboro Friday night, but I suspect it was actually Bluefield College (VA).  The BSC Big Blues haven't had football since 1981 and the BC Rams are fielding a team for the first time in 70 years.  At any rate, I heard the visitors didn't show.  What's up with that?  The weather conditions were perfect in central NC.  Was the weather bad in western VA?  I think the Quakers had to settle for an intrasquad game.  :(

I still think GC and GC-Q should be whacking each other in AUG.... at least twice. I know they play each other but people play differently when the blood on the other side of the ball is someone else's besides their roommates.

GC ,Elon, and GC-Q are within 10 minutes of each other. They should be sharpening their fangs on each other.

Even HS's do it...must be some bad blood thing

abnrgr, I'm not so sure GCP and GCQ want to scrimmage each other - I guess they're both afraid to give away too much of their personnel and plays before a regularly scheduled game.  As for Elon, since they've moved to DI, I think we might get too many people hurt before the season even started!  Our last forays against even DII's about 7-10 years ago ended that way.  But I agree, there is bad blood ...

BTW, on a related note, since we beat Elon in basketball (in their gym!) to start the 2006-07 season, I think it'll be a cold day in hell before they play us again.  Loved it!  :)

Soup Bowl food drive is now in session.  These are Guilford's "ways to give" and Greensboro has similar options:

What depressing news for that Frostburg State player, Sheely. Dies of sever head trauma? He was a beast.

Bless his family

I have it on good authority that Stone Station is going to be mentioned, albeit briefly, in the Around the Mid-Atlantic column next week :)

Does anyone have any idea why Alma College, from Michigan, is coming all the way to Lexington to play W&L for the third game of the season? Seems like a long way to travel to fill a D3 hole in the schedule. Might be nice to see how W&L stacks up against a low to mid-tier MIAC team, but I'm curious as to the logic.

I'm anxious for it to be published.  I'm leaving in an hour to start the BBQ.  Safe travels to all D3Football fans this weekend.  Go BC!!!!!  16 Pork Butts and counting starting at 6:00 this evening.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at Stone Station!

Just to tweak your post, Alma is a MIAA (Michigan) team, not MIAC (Minnesota). MIAC has St. John's, St. Thomas, Bethel and those folks in it. A much tougher conference than the MIAA :)
