Tiger27,
I'm not Pat, but IMHO I'd say HSC best bet is to win the rest of their games convincingly and hope JHU wins their conf. A win over an AQ can be very helpful. Witness BC's first trip to the playoffs. I'm guessing that the win over Western Md.(McD) in the first game of the year at their house was the clincher.

Thanks Llama, I can sleep tonight! ;)

Now that you mention it I remember the wet field thing. Funny, I don't think it rained anywhere in VA on Friday. Don't suppose somebody thought the wet field would favor the passing game?! Maybe slow down the speed.

Now you got me thinking I remember an HSC poster asking earlier last week who a wet field would most affect.

Let's bring into the mix terrible field conditions that would slow down play...who then has the upper hand, or at least those conditions be more advantagous for?  (obviously the H-SC/BC game).  Tiger27
Tiger27 are you the grounds keeper or something? You wouldn't be the first guy to have tried it. :D

You are correct. I think the Johns Hopkins played a factor too, but can't quite remember. If I was HSC I would hope all my opponents win. Including BC ;D

Ahh ...you are correct. I was thinking that was the big comeback win at Harewood Field after the lightning delay but that game was actually in 1999, the 5-5 comeback year. In 2000 Hopkins was soundly trounced at Jopson.

Thats funny Dad! Actually the field was thick bermuda and was in great condition. I think the wetness was due to watering the field to try and keep it alive with the drought we have been having. It was dry on top but if you put your knee down on it it got soaked. My amature hypothesis is the ball became wet while the center was leaning on it prior to the snap. Talk about over analyzing a game? :o

On a related note, Coach Clark was on the radio tonight at Chili's with Jim Britt on Speaking-of-Sports. He mentioned that he got to look at the plans for the 8.5 million dollar facelift coming to Fulton Field. Looks like HSC is also willing to "Up the Ante" monitarily to keep pace with the BC's of the ODAC.

Ouch! that would definitely put the pressure on BC to upgrade. Locker rooms have been less than stellar and I think playoff caliber teams should have "filled" artificial turf fields to minimize the impact of weather later in the fall.  The field with drainage and gravel will run about a 1 mil. I'd expect some extra enhancement to lockers and seating to make a multi million project.

I think the flood issue has been a deterent but I think that could be addressed with some creative use of levees ...maybe something like McDaniels bowl. You might have to move stone station.

Llamaguy

Yeah there has been talk about stadium upgrades in the past. The main comment was raise the $ first. The concensus though was to pretty much keep Jopson as it is. I agree a new lockerroom set-up would be nice (ala JMU's new Plecker strength and conditioning center, plus new pressbox facilities. I would also welcome lights as night games are awesome, but do understand security issues. As for the Field turf, don't really know. Injuries are a concern but are getting closer to grass with the new stuff. Still alot of cost and agree about the flood possibility. I was at BC in 1985 when the water was 3 inches below the back door of Nininger. :-\

I still think the easiest and most economical option and this has been discussed, is to move the home side to the river side of the field. Have stands similar to JMU with the building underneath and behind to house lockerrooms & concessions + public bathrooms. At the top of the stands go with a Doubledeck pressbox with the lower level used for Eagleclub functions before and at halftime of the game. Shenandoah has this same set-up at Shentel and it is quite functional and a definite upgrade.

The two big deterents are 1) Mooola, and 2) Flood Waters ???

I think before any of the big things happen, such as renovations to stadium... the field would look better with a little bit of color. Such as, "BC" or an Eagle on midfield..and also "Bridgewater" or  "Eagles" in Both Endzones. I would like to see that this year for Senoir day or maybe a home playoff game ( If that happens) ;)

How much would that probably cost? Should be cheap?

And how can it be done?

xbcdad,
haha!  No, I'm not the groundskeeper.  I really did get a kick out of that though.  The reason I asked the question was because I was curious...Would wet/muddy conditions have been beneficial for either side...I don't think anyone replied...?

i think before we can attempt to raise enough money for field improvements we've got to be able to raise enough money to fund odac championship rings. and that's not a shot at the other odac teams (because i know we're still only 1-0 in the odac this year). that's just stating the truth.

Good win for BC on regional TV.  Always a boost for the program.

pakownr97

I am old school.  Nothing beats real grass.  I've seen Jopson in November looking great many times.  Let's hope to see a playoff game in Jopson to prove my point.

JMHO, but I don't like fake grass.  Field turf is better than the old stuff, but I'll take Jopson "au natural!"

GO BC!

Pakownr,
You may be old school, but as a guy who is responsible for maintianing fields i can tell you the new filled fields are the wave of the future in this part of the country and especially north. Most of the new or replacement HS fields in PA are going to filled fields to say nothing of the many college and pro fields. Its economics, (the number of events that can be hosted under one set of lights) playability in all weather, and the returns are showing that it is at least as safe as grass and in many cases better. I firmly believe that the 1st playoff win at W&J would not have happened if our speed had been nuetralized by slippery turf. I give you the very difficult time we had at Lycoming on the ice and mud as the contrast, also the soaked bermuda coming up in chunks in San Antonio where we lost in OT. If you are going to recruit speed you might as well have the track.

I think it's becoming more of a preference thing.

BTW I like Llama's proposal. With some careful design I think the structures along the river side could be built to serve as a levey to protect the field with flood gates to be dropped when needed.

Outsider14

yeah ask sticky about that lycoming game on the parking lot field. i'm glad we won because that made watching him on film amusing. almost every play off the line when i was lined up next to him i heard a "SCCRRAAPPEE!! daimn!"
