And the Generals go sloppy in the second quarter. Both teams turn it over on downs to start the quarter. Catholic forced to punt, Generals throw a stupid interception. Finally, Catholic makes a nice long drive, aided by one of the strangest completion/fumble calls I've ever seen, that ends in a nice TD. Generals return the kickoff for a TD, first one of the year I believe for W&L and then Catholic turns it over on downs with 90 seconds to go. Generals pick up a third and 21 to keep a drive going and on 3rd and goal from the 3 with 7.6 seconds left the Generals score a touchdown on a well-covered slant pass. Unlucky for Catholic.

Catholic plays a much better second quarter on both sides of the ball, but giving up TD on a kickoff return and getting blown over on a 2 minute drill touchdown pushes the half-time score to 35-7.

Generals with 335 yards of offense in the first half, 228 on the ground, one turnover and one turnover on downs. Catholic with 173 yards, 158 through the air, no turnovers, but two possessions ending on downs.

Catholic goes 3 and out to start the third followed by a textbook 11 play, 76 yard W&L drive that ends in 7. Rain falling heavier and temp dropping to 33. Announcers claim there are less than 100 fans left in the stands on senior night. Sad, but with the poor weather there is not much to be done.

Catholic drives to W&L's 4 where they turn the ball over on downs. And the Generals, with almost 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, send in what can only be described as the second team. Cold, rainy, miserable night, up by 5 touchdowns and the Generals have obviously decided enough is enough. After 60 yards, the Generals turn the ball back over on downs by less than an inch right at the start of the 4th quarter. 42-7 Generals, Catholic with the ball on their own 38.

Generals defense comes out with the front 7 as a second string and the backs and safeties still the starters. Obviously there is still a lot of respect for the Cardinal's passing attack. Catholic makes one first down before punting.

So far 10 different Generals have run the ball. 419 yards divied up among them on the ground as the Generals go up 48-7 midway through the fourth. The Generals even send out the freshman backup placekicker for the extra point.

Generals out on defense with even the secondary replaced. And Catholic takes advantage getting a personal foul and then two long pass plays that expose the Generals for a TD but the extra point snap goes over the holders head before he falls on it.

Generals go 3 and out, but the quarterback is wearing number 32. That's going to take some digging to get a name. W&L's punter comes on for the first time. Catholic fumbles the punt. It just isn't Catholic's night as the Generals take over around the 45. And it's just ugly as the Generals go 10 yards backward on a pitch that wasn't anywhere near the man. 3 and out to punt again for the Generals. Catholic punts. Looks like both teams just want this game to end so they can go get warm.

Generals run out the clock with a final of 49-13. 562 yards of total offense for the Generals, 449 on the ground. Catholic got off to a bad start and never recovered. A miserable night in Lex, but a good win for the Generals heading into the defacto championship game next weekend.

A big sigh of relief for me. The Generals have made it through a tough ODAC schedule to set up the game for all the marbles next week against the Tigers. If you had asked me if the Generals would run through a schedule facing Guilford, Catholic and Bridgewater at home and E&H and R-MC on the road I wouldn't have felt very confident. With a bye week the last week of the season we have been very lucky regarding injuries.

I think this Generals team is heading into the game next weekend riding a high, rested after this game, and firing on all cylinders. I'm happy about how well we did against Catholic's passing O after struggling against F&M, Centre and Alma earlier in the year. I'm also happy that unlike the F&M and Centre games we seem to have cleaned up our turnover battle.

The Tigers are going to face a healthy, confident, experienced W&L team next week. Now, who do I talk to about having them spot us a few turnovers again like last year?

Guilford showing H-SC why you can't look past anyone in the ODAC. H-SC up 56-42 late in the 4th but has been unable to really pull away from the Quakers making for a long day. Surprised that H-SC has given up 410 yards, although both teams have been plagued with penalties.

That game had to make you happier Hasanova. The Quakers certainly got off to a quick start and just refused to give up even after they were caught. After a long season, to come out and play with that much heart is a real good indication that the coach and program are going in the right direction. It was a bit of the opposite of what I saw out of Catholic, although they fell behind early and looked quite a bit disinterested (could have been the miserable weather and being on the road as well).

This week we have the game that will determine the ODAC champion.  HSC has shown vulnerabilities especially in the turnover department and on defense.  W&L is peaking at the right time.  Even though the game is at HSC, I would have to make W&L the favorite based on the past month of games.  It should be a great game.  Come and see it live if you can.

I'm trying to figure out how to get there but it's a 10 hour drive each way and my wife is currently 8 months pregnant with twins. Something tells me I won't, in good conscience, make it to cheer on my Generals. Can I apply to you to spot the Generals a few turnovers like last year?

I got a feeling that you will appreciate the outcome of the game on Nov. 12 in Guilford.

I didn't see yesterday's game because of an afternoon wedding I attended, but a friend did keep me posted.  Even though we lost, it does show we can put up some points if we avoid turnovers.  So, yes, I am encouraged that the team is staying together and may have good showings against Catholic and E&H.  Go Quakers!

We'll see - E&H has certainly handled us the past few years, but I do have hope!

The way the Tigers have played in several of their games this year I'd have to say that's probably a foregone conclusion. But I remain optimistic they can overcome all that and come out on top.

I was at the game at Guilford and all I can say is we got the win and got out of there. Very sloppy on the defensive side of the ball; had a player ejected; more personal foul calls then I can remember; just simply a game to forget. Game was very poorly attended, never really felt the Tigers were in jeopardy of getting beat but you could tell early on they were not ready to play. Thats football and when you have those days get the win, get out and get ready for the next one.

Hasa, the Quakers played hard. Need to put some people in the stands to support them. Beautiful facility, just too empty.

My guess is the Tigers will be ready on Saturday.

Hey, tfa.  Well, being 1-6 going into the game had a lot to do with the attendance.  Also, the weather in the Piedmont was miserable throughout the morning, but fortunately cleared up in time for the game.  There were several other sporting events going on during the day as well.  On paper, I think many folks thought we were in for another thrashing and perhaps their heart wasn't in it.  With all that said, however, I agree - more people should have been there.  If Guilford's .400 or better, they'll come.  We have one more home game - I hope this game will energize the fan base a bit for E&H on Nov. 12.
