having never seen w&l play in person, what is the "quirky" offense they run? looking at stats, it's obvious that the run, run, and run some more...are they an option team? is it the notre dame box or veer or wing or something else altogether? thanks...

It's a spread triple option run almost exclusively from the shotgun. Quirky in a sense that there aren't a whole lot of teams that run it exclusively, not so quirky in that there certainly are other teams that run it, and run it better (Salisbury comes to mind) than W&L. Sewanee and W&L run almost identical offensive playbooks from what I saw last week. Of course Sewanee's coach was an O-coord at W&L not that long ago, so it's understandable.

I'm actually a little surprised that W&L doesn't pass a bit more this year. The tight end, Alex Evans, is absolutely oustanding and a huge target.

Centre will win. Unless this guy in the bottle named Jack is messing with me

If you look on the ODAC pick'em board I think we all agree with you. Centre SHOULD win, but as a W&L alum I see more than a few reasons why W&L will have a chance. We will see on Saturday!

Sorry to hear the QB at Guilford decided to hang it up. He was really impressive against HSC last year. I hate to see any kid quit anything but I guess there is a reason and no other solutions to his situation. Too bad.

thanks for the info...i haven't seen salisbury in about 5 years, but they used to be a pretty traditional triple option program (under center) - i'd like to see the triple option run from the shotgun

jknezek

actually I'm not sure if they run it from under center or not (salisbury). I don't think I've seen W&L go from under center in 3 years or more. Not even sure their victory formation isn't a shotgun to a knee/soft dive play.

quakermom

I think alot of the players are very upset about the QB leaving. Sounds as if he got railroaded. Doesn't make me feel good as a parent.

Salisbury is under center,,very much like Ga Tech,,But the gulls have more variety in the run game

abnrgr

QB GCQ gets run off? What the you know what?

So the only winner on the team for the Quakes gets run off. What could that young man have done in the off season that cost him the starting job?

The experiment with wanting a football team but not one one that wins is over. I will nver ever try to steer another football player there. Done

Yeah, I am pretty sure its under center. However, some years ago they have used the shotgun. Nevertheless, I think they just try to execute their gameplan and let everything else work for itself.

Is the ODAC looking stronger, weaker or about what you expected after week two ?

jknezek

At this point you'd have to say weaker. W&L loses to F&M, R-MC gets shelled by JHU, Guilford loses the Soup Bowl, Catholic loses to Gallaudet for the first time in 100 years... all of these are bad things. E&H and Bridgewater at 2-0 against mediocre competition isn't really a boost. Only H-SC has a quality win. This weekend will be crucial for the ODAC's reputation. W&L needs to come through in a big game, Shenandoah could help by piling more misery on the Captains, Catholic could help by beating CMU who may be the cream of the UAA this year, and everyone else just needs to win. Next weekend H-SC beating Huntingdon would be pretty helpful as well.

Given the chatter on this board though, I'm thinking Guilford could go winless this season. Never a good thing. W&L, Catholic and Shenandoah all have to be considered fairly large underdogs, and wins over Methodist (E&H) and Bethany (R-MC) aren't really going to do much for the ODAC. Guilford's best remaining shot for a win this season probably comes against Averett this weekend (or maybe Catholic later this year), so we can always hope.
