Good analysis and you were correct about HSC. One atta boy for you

Road win GC-Q. HASA has to be doing doing the Curly spin on the floor
Not sure if it was a "Curly spin", but I was happy they got a W.  Now, to break that 14-game home losing streak ...

surprised that no one mentioned that Catholic was without starting Qb Greg Cordivari this past weekend against RMC. Would have been a much different game had he played. I wouldn't count Catholic out of it just yet.

Catholic has only won more than 2 games in an ODAC schedule once since the end of the 2000 season. They are usually an ODAC non-entity and have very little, if any, support on the boards. While they got a nice upset to start the ODAC season this year, most people around here laid that on H-SC playing miserable, not a much improved Catholic team. Losing to R-MC was pretty much expected so you just aren't going to see much excitement around Catholic unless they find a way to keep winning...

That being said, welcome to the discussion and it would be great to have a Catholic poster around. The more the better and we have a pretty active set of posters including a whole H-SC group, a couple R-MC guys, a scattering of E&H and Bridgewater, one each for W&L and Guilford, and we started the season with a Shenandoah poster but not sure what happened to him. Nice to have the full set!

I think we convinced him that the league wasn't going to let Shenandoah schedule night games without consulting their opponents, so he gave up.  ;)

Thankfully, the Eagles agreed to come to Greensboro tonight ... Bridgewater at Guilford, Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 pm.  Go Quakers!

Got to tell you, I'm not real happy with this. While Bridgewater had a short week to prepare for Guilford, they now have a couple extra days to prepare for my Generals. Kudos to Bridgewater for agreeing to help Guilford out, boo to the unintended side effect!

Good point, jknezek.  The Guilford students leave tomorrow for fall break, so it'll be interesting to see what sort of crowd  we have.  Hopefully, the students will turn out, but not sure about parents and BC supporters with a drive over a few hours.  Report to follow ...

Couldn't ask for better weather to play but a Thursday night game does not push my button. I hope HSC never has to agree to a weekday game, anywhere. Difficult for parents to travel, HS kids with bothers playing, Etc. I hope the gam e is well attended but lets make sure this ios the last Thursday night ODAC game !!!! (Sorry Hasa)

Guilford 23, Bridgewater 20 Final

This is almost as nice as Guilford's last win over the Eagles in 2006 when BC's 35 game ODAC win streak was snapped.  :)

Close game throughout, with the largest lead being 8.  BC scored first and a missed extra point on GC's ensuing score made it 7-6, Eagles.  This led to several 2 point tries with the Quakers being successful on their last TD.  If I pointed to one thing that really hurt the Eagles, it would be their 13 penalties.  This game was not decided until the final minute and was a fun game to watch.

The Quakers improve to 3-3, 2-1 and the Eagles now stand at 4-2, 1-2.  Yippee!

Couldn't make it to Guilford's Thursday night game tonight, so watching it online and thought I would chime in on the board! Good game so far, as offensive is moving the ball well and Pawlowski sure sells those play-actions! And damn that TD pass at 7:13! And as only a freshman, gives us fans some confidence to score! Defense looks real good tonight, as they did last week.

Oh, and since no one else chimed in and it seems there were some questions regarding ECU's motives, i did some homework as the comments weren't reflective of my interactions with the staff. Zack Halbert = Last years QB who fairly lost starting job start of the season. ECU = Zack Halberts dad. Quakermom = Relative of Zack Halbert (as evident by profile's email search on myspace).

Felt it would be fair to the non-guilford fans, to be aware of the motives of ECU and Quakermom's comments.
I'm pretty sure a number of people knew these were the underlying connections.  As a parent and as a former college athlete, I understand their collective disappointment, but would argue there were more constructive ways to cope.  I wish the best for all involved.  Peace.

i've got to say that i didn't think gcq had a win in them looking at the matchup on paper...i think it's safe to say that there has been some high-level coaching going on when you see the improvement of the quakers over the course of the season...watching the mu/gcq game online, i wasn't sure this was a guilford team that would win a single game this year...i was obviously wrong - great job, quakers

I went to the GC/BC game tonight. Only stayed til halftime because I had my 7 year old with me. I was very impressed with the enthusiastic crowd at the game. Last year when HSC played at Guilford we had as many fans as they did.  My youngest son did have an issue - LESS COWBELL! I guess he will not be a Blue Oyster Cult fan when he gets older!

Congrats to the Quakers for a great victory.

Congrats to the Quakers for a great victory.

When we were at the W&L vs Sewanee game earlier this year, my almost 3 year old daughter got annoyed at the cowbells. I happen to agree that these are approaching scourge status. Used to be a key play kind of thing, now it's almost every down. I miss when people could actually be heard when they just yelled encouragement.

As for Guilford, I think that 4th quarter against W&L a few weeks ago really sparked something in them. I expect them to continue to improve. I wonder how Bridgewater will recover from this. They have my Generals at home in a week and a half, so a good amount of time to prepare for the option. It just doesn't seem like the Eagles have the horses, or that they started off the year with so weak a schedule they just aren't prepared for the meat of the ODAC grind.

Great win for all of the GC fans. I guess nobody should be taking GC for granted anymore. HSC faces E&H on Saturday. I'm assuming it will be a competitive game, as always. Anybody seen E&H this year that can comment ?

Good luck to all this weekend !!!

jknezek

I watched a good chunk of the W&L vs E&H game last weekend. In the first half they looked slow and out of position defensively. Offensively they looked about the same as last year. The second half defense was much better and the offense was good enough to score points consistently against mixed W&L strings in the fourth quarter. Overall, I think they were better than the Guilford team we played the week before, but not as good as the E&H team that took the Generals to the wire last year. Again, a lot of that was on the first half defense which didn't seem prepared for the option. Once they fell behind, W&L controlled the game with a massive time of possession advantage.
