Looks like a 1-9 season for SU in their 1st year competing in the ODAC.  New blood is much needed for this program to do a 180 and that's my opinion.  This program since 2005 has won only 21x's out of the last 79 games for a .265% winning percentage.  The local community of Winchester and the entire university deserves better results in my opinion.  For the love of God, how much more loosing will the SU admin's tolerate?  I don't want to hear the BS about the high rate of tuition ... there are plenty of other programs at SU that are being successful facing the same rates.

I will say this, the baseball program will compete much better than this!  Also, I think the men's basketball program will be around the .500 mark within the ODAC ... just wait and see what Coach Pryor does with his young men!

QuoteEMORY, Va. – Homestanding Emory & Henry scored two touchdowns in the final 5:21 Saturday afternoon to escape with a 20-17 ODAC football victory over Shenandoah.

For Shenandoah (1-8, 0-6 ODAC), it is the second straight week that it victory slip through its collective grasp in the waning moments of the game.

With SU leading 17-7 following an Andrew Williams 22-yard field goal at the 6:09 mark of the fourth, the Wasps (5-4, 2-4) needed just three plays and 48 seconds to drive 57 yards get themselves back in it.

E&H moved all 57 those yards through the air, capping it with a 17-yard Kyle Boden to Corey Ware TD pass.

On the ensuing possession, Shenandoah was able to drive into Wasps territory, but was forced to punt after being faced with a 4th and 2 at the Wasps 48.

Emory & Henry again needed just three plays to get the game-winning score as Boden found Ware on a slant route and he took it 59 yards for the go-ahead score.

Shenandoah blocked the PAT, setting up a situation that a field goal could force overtime.

Unfortunately for the Hornets faithful, SU was unable to get closer than the 43-yard line before being forced to throw a Hail Mary pass on the final play of the game.

This pass was knocked down at the 5, ending the contest.

SU, which held the ball for 38:42, had 290 yards in total offense. Freshman Andrew Smith had 127 of this total on 33 carries.

Smith scored both of the Hornets touchdowns, blasting over from the 3 with 48 seconds remaining in the second quarter and from the 8 at the 10:40 mark of the third.

The drive that ended with the Williams was longest of the day for SU, as the Hornets held the ball for 11 plays and 6:09 before turning it over to Williams for the FG.

Emory & Henry had scored the game's initial touchdown on a Joe Vaughn 67-yard TD run.

Defensively, Jajuan Johnson and Tijun Findley both had six tackles and a forced fumble for SU.

Shenandoah completes its season next Saturday with a 1:00 contest at Washington and Lee.

Next week has all the makings of a trap game for W&L. I hope they can take Shenandoah at home, but they still have to show up.

It does have the makings of a trap game, especially with W&L already clinched no matter the outcome, but ... Shenandoah hasn't shown a lot this season.  I think W&L can be a little flat and still win.

With a week to go, any early thoughts on COY, POY and ROY?

Just throwing it out there, but I believe if the Quakers finish 6-4, 5-2, GC Coach Rusiewicz deserves some consideration for COY.

POY I'm putting out Luke Heinsohn for W&L. #16 in the nation rushing averaging 125+ ypg, #1 in the nation scoring with an average of 19.56 points per game. He does W&L's placekicking and has scored 21 TDs.

I think Coach Rusiewicz is the winner of COY (or at least should be in my mind) but W&L's Coach Abell winning the title in his first year as head coach probably deserves honorable mention. ROY is either Pawlowski (sp?) or Nance in my mind.

Hats off to the Generals. That was the best ODAC game I've seen and I've seen a bunch of them. Good luck to W&L in the playoffs. Bring home a victory for the ODAC, God knows we need one. Coach of the year has to reside in Lexington, player of the year as well #31, what a stud.

Congrats to Luke Heinsohn on his ODAC offensive player of the week award. I think this one was probably a no-brainer. Congrats also to Guilford's Satiir Stevenson for taking the defensive award.

H-SC and R-MC at the top

W&L, Bridgewater and E&H scrapping the next level

Guilford, Catholic and SU struggling at the rear.

If I was doing the whole conference with records it would look like this:

H-SC  (6-1) loss to W&L    tiebreak win versus R-MC at home, loss to W&L on road
R-MC  (6-1) loss to H-SC on road
W&L   (5-2) loss to R-MC at home and Bridgewater on road
E&H    (4-3) loss to H-SC (road), R-MC (home), W&L (road)
Bridgewater (4-3) loss to H-SC (home), R-MC (away), E&H (home)
Guilford  (2-5) win over Catholic (home) and SU (away)
SU        (1-6)   Win over Catholic (away)
Catholic (0-7)  tough season.

So H-SC gets their conference definining win at home versus R-MC, R-MC gets theirs on the road versus W&L, W&L gets theirs over H-SC at home, E&H takes Bridgewater on the road, Bridgewater takes W&L at home.

If this plays out, I'm hoping H-SC and R-MC go undefeated non-conf and the ODAC gets two bids like 2010. H-SC has two likely regional ranked caliber teams on the schedule, CNU and Huntingdon (though I suspect CNU will go to the playoffs, Huntingdon will not based on their killer schedule). R-MC has one likely regional ranked caliber team on the non-conf schedule, Johns Hopkins, and Bethany from the traditional bottom to middle of the PAC as a possible wildcard.

W&L's non-conf is a mixed bag. I expect Centre to take a step back as they were a very senior loaded team last year, F&M to be better than last year's egg, and Sewanee to be slightly better than last year's improved mid-tier finish in the SCAC. So while Centre might be regionally ranked, I wouldn't bet on it and W&L's schedule doesn't look real strong.

E&H has Ferrum, Maryville (new coach and a lot of offseason turmoil), and Methodist, the 2-4-6 finishers from the USA South last season, and I expect Ferrum on the road to be the only real challenge, but no one worthy of regional rankings.

Bridgewater has St. Vincent, Greensboro, and Apprentice School. Not much to say about that. St. Vincent from the traditional middle of the PAC is the only legitimate possibility for regional ranking, Greensboro from the bottom of the USA South, and Apprentice who has gone 2-8, 2-8, 1-9, and 2-7 the last 4 years.

So the ODAC will need to eat its own to make a strong case. I think H-SC and R-MC will be regionally ranked. W&L stands an outside shot if they can sweep their non-conf and have only a loss to R-MC heading to the late season (11/3) H-SC game. Anyone else is going to have to upset at least one of the big 2 at the top and pretty much run the rest of the slate.

anyone want to laugh at my preseason predictions now that there is only 1 week left? I figured I'd post this just for comedy purposes. I will say that I did well with the W&L/Bridgewater game and the W&L/HSC game. I also was pretty good in where I thought the non-conf teams would play out. Especially W&L's non-conf calling Centre over-rated and F&M under-rated.

Congratulations to W&L for an outstanding win on Saturday.  As has been stated before, the game on Saturday was one of the best games that I have seen at any level.  Both teams had multiple chances to win.  Both teams came from behind and made great defensive stands when the game was on the line.  All I can say is WOW.

Good luck to the Generals in the playoffs!

Pawlowski (you were correct on spelling) had 201 yards passing, 136 yards rushing, a rushing TD and a 2-point conversion pass in the win over CUA, so a pretty good day!

If ESPN cared about D3 football, this game might have fallen under an "instant classic" headline. It certainly qualifies as the most interesting D3 game I've ever seen. Not the best, but certainly the most interesting. Comebacks, different styles, hard playing, scoring and defensive stops, and the drama of 4 overtimes. The only knock on this game is that it ended on a field goal... (HSC fans feel free to disagree with the last statement)

I actually don't disagree. I just think it was the wrong field goal.   :D

I hated either team had to lose.  I actually quit watching my wasps and started watching this game online.  I even had the wife watching it with me.  She was on pins and needles for each team.  We moved the laptop into the kitchen so that we could watch the rest of the game as we started supper for the kids.  Good luck to the bowties and PLEASE win a first round game but don't overlook the Hornets this week as they are hungry for a win.

Shenandoah first, then we'll see how the seedings go. The Regional Rankings on Wed will help a bit in figuring things out. W&L's SOS is under 20 right now. That helps. It will take a knock next week playing Shenandoah. But W&L needs to win this week, then get a bit lucky in where they are sent. Really don't think there is any reasonable (or unreasonable) hope that a 2 loss W&L team gets a game in Lexington.

Not wanting to start a riot but I have an interesting question.  Does either team lay an egg in "The Game" this week with the conf. title not on the line?  I know pride should mean more than anything but sometimes when your preseason goals can't be obtained, you lose sight of the smaller victories.  Just starting discussion if anyone has opinions.
