  • 2012: Washington & Lee lost to Hobart, 38-20 (first round)
  • 2011: Hampden-Sydney lost to Centre, 51-41 (first round)
  • 2010: Hampden-Sydney lost to Montclair State, 16-14 (first round)
  • 2010: Washington & Lee lost to Thomas More, 42-14 (first round)
  • 2009: Hampden-Sydney lost to Johns Hopkins, 23-7 (first round)
  • 2008: Randolph-Macon lost to Mount Union, 56-0 (first round)
  • 2007: Hampden-Sydney lost to Wesley, 45-27 (first round)
  • 2006: Washington & Lee lost to Wilkes, 42-0 (first round)

I'm a numbers nerd, so I researched the last seven years of ODAC performance in the playoffs, and we have led for only 55 minutes and 7 seconds of the 480 minutes in the eight games. That means we've been tied or losing for more than 88% of the time.

All three instances where we led were when the ODAC was leading 7-0. We have never led a playoff game (since 2006) past the 7:44 mark of the second quarter, and we've never had a game tied during a second half.

The ODAC's best chance of a win is someone finishing 10-0 during the regular season, and hosting a first round playoff game versus the USAC champion.

This is a point I brought up. It doesn't have to be the USAC champion, but we do need to stop sending 2 loss champions to the NCAA. It pretty much guarantees a 7/8 seed, which is not going to be a very competitive game. Since 2006 we have sent two teams to the playoffs with less than 2 losses, HSC in 2009 and 2010 (Pool C).

Both of those games were disappointments for the ODAC as HSC ran up against a JHU buzzsaw in 2009 that played well in 3 straight playoff road games, and then HSC lost a winnable home game in 2010.

All 3 W&L teams have been multiple loss teams, earning a pair of 7 seeds and an 8. The 2006 team just wasn't a playoff caliber team. The 2010 and 2012 teams were much better, but both had mental lapses early in the year that cost them big time come seeding. W&L's losses this year were not to superior teams, and that is truly a killer. You just aren't going to win as a 7/8 seed, although at least the Generals kept their heads up this year against a solid Hobart team.

The less said about the year R-MC was 6-4 and had to go to Alliance the better.

I wish Barnes all the best but in all reality this should had been done along time ago. I've always said just because SU is in div 3 it should not be an excuse not to win games. Mount Union is a great example and in the ODAC we have teams like W&L and Bridgewater year after year playing for a trip to the NCAA playoffs and giving those fans something to hope for. Its just so painful to know that by the 4th game of the season your team is out of the running for a playoff run. Hopefully the Hornets get someone that will turn this program around. Us fans need it along with the community.

Every time a college head job comes open, there will be a lot of (qualified) guys to apply.

I hope SU makes a great choice!

Info I heard was that there were 150 applicants.

Congratulations to HSC's Will Ferrell, the ODAC's sole AFCA Div III Coaches' All-America Team representative. Quite an honor.

Sadly, W&L's Luke Heinsohn is the only Gagliardi finalist not listed on the team, beaten out by Scottie Wiliams, who is a finalist, and James Clay who led the nation in total rushing and rushing yards per game (over 2K, and over 212 pg).

I heard a rumor that there will be no Stone Street Station this year?  Is that true?  I hope not.

Unfortunately, this is correct.

Most of the "main players" are not able to attend because of work or family reasons.

The plan is to be back in 2013 - watching Bridgewater play a purple team. ;)

Sorry to hear you guys won't be making it.   Won't be the same without you.

But I'm ok with your 2013 prediction as long as it's THE purple machine and not one of the newbies.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

What he said!  You will be missed.

2012 season officially over. I guess it's time to act like basketball is a big deal and that is going to be very hard to do !!!

Maybe Santa can bring the ODAC a playoff victory for the 2013 season. My early predictions for the ODAC next year has Bridgewater as the preseason favorite. Preseason I like: #1 BC #2 RMC #3 HSC #4 W&L #5 GC #6 E&H #7 CU #8 SU.

Happy Holidays to all !!!!

If there's any Shenandoah fans out there, not formally announced, but a friend of mine who is close enough to know at Hobart indicates that our D Coordinator, Scott Yoder, is going to be the next HC at Shenandoah.  This isn't traditional news, rather a blog, but the guy who runs it I trust very much:

http://gohobart.blogspot.com/2012/12/yoder-accepts-hc-job-at-shenandoah.html?showComment=1356873033932#c2352292938176666040

For this Hobart alum, it's bittersweet.  I went to school and was a teammate for a couple of years with Scott.  A tremendous player, student and person.  He deserves this and will build that program well from where its at.  He also ran the offense until around 06 or 07, when he and our current O Coordinator (also an alum FB/Lax player graduating in 2000) Kevin DeWall switched gigs, so Scott has coached playoff teams on the offense and defense.  You're very lucky.

And happy new year to all.

There are 1 or 2 Shenandoah fans that found their way to the ODAC boards this fall. D-Bat for one. If he does take over that program, he has his work cut out for him. Not entirely sure why, since many of Shenandoah's other sports are very competitive, but football has always seemed to be a problem. This was their first year in the ODAC, and pulling an 0-fer conference was a rude welcome.

It's gonna be interesting to see who Coach Yoder keeps on the staff ... I would definitely keep Jacoby and McCullough!

Uncle Jessie

Anyone know of what style of offense Yoder like to use when he was in charge of the offensive coordinator duties at Hobart? Im hoping its something that looks like football being played in the 21st century and not in 1955 where its run, run, and run that many Shenandoah fans have become used to the last ten years.

Uncle Jessie

Congratulations to the Hornets new head coach Scott Yoder being introduced today. Welcome to Winchester along with his family. This is going to be a long road to recovery but I wish him all the best and hope, pray and look forward to watching things get turned around and watching this team become a force in the ODAC.  I hope ;)
