According to this Guilford facebook post, 117 football players were at practice this morning.  In my memory at least, that may be a record.  Go Quakers!

HSC reported today so I guess most, or all, ODAC schools are now engaged in Fall drills. Season is 3 weeks away.
Best of luck to all for the coming year. May your team play well and free from injury, or at least serious injury.
Hope to run into some of my fellow posters during the season and look forward to the tailgate Hasa is going to host for 150 HSC parents&friends on Nov. 2nd !!!!!

The teams must win at least 1 game to be noticed. 3 4 games deep would be nice. But we are trying for notice. The boys must smite a Texas or a Wisconsin team. I was watching ALABAMA spring games last week. 65K in the stands?.

Anyway we got to win some....SMITE someone and stop being THE CINAEDUS:

BTW this is one for Nova(caine)

W&L finally posts a roster (sort of. I used an old trick to find it since the actual link still goes to 2012). 99 names, up a handful from last year, 20 seniors, 19 juniors, 25 sophs, and 35 incoming. That's a good haul for the Generals. Be interesting to see how they replace all three major running backs from last year and some key pieces of the defense. There is a lot of returning talent in the remaining seniors and juniors, especially in the offensive line, tight end, qb, and defensive line. We'll have to see about the running back holes, the linebackers and secondary.

Happy to see Will Dyson, from my current home town of Indian Springs AL out of local power Briarwood Christian on the roster as a first year. He was a very, very good h.s. DB and just a bit small for the big time. But I hope he excels for the Generals.  Also happy to see Clay-Chalkville AL's Stephen Mauk back on the roster after a year off. Always glad to see the local kids.

Among the first years I see a lot of the same schools represented that we have seen in the recent past. A very good indicator that Coach Abell is picking up recruiting right where the previous staff left off after his first full year.

Was looking through W&L's roster and noticed a big, big missing name... Alex Evans, the big tight end who was pretty much the sum total of the W&L passing game the last two years (such as it was). Alex was also a captain last year, but is not listed on the roster this year that I could find. Pretty sad about that since he wasn't only a weapon if we could get him the ball, but he was also a good blocking tight end listed at 6'5". I do wonder why he's not back for his final year and will certainly miss seeing him play again.

On the upside, looking at the 39 seniors and juniors and they are spread out across offense and defense. Six outside linebackers, 3 inside linebackers,  9 offensive lineman, 6 defensive lineman, 6 defensive backs, starting QB, 3 running backs (including the backup qb), 3 wide receivers, 1 tight end, and a kicker. There shouldn't be a position on the field lacking upper class leadership.

I really like that we are going to be experienced in the trenches.

Could he have graduated early? We've had guys like that. Get a job and start making money or pay for another semester just to play one more season? Not a real tough decision I don't think. ;)

It's a possibility, but it's hard to get out of W&L in 3 years. I didn't know too many who managed it since they don't offer summer courses. I got two degrees in 4 years, so it's possible to load up extra courses in each semester, but it gets really hard just to get it all on your schedule.

I have no information other than access to a roster that is available, but takes some work to find. I'm just a bit off about it because I really liked watching him play. Of course I may be one of the few guys that enjoyed watching the tight end run dummy routes in a triple option offense! He was really good at running those routes even though W&L only threw 5-10 times a game. He never really looked like it wasn't going to be a throw, even though you pretty much knew it wasn't coming. I also did enjoy watching him help seal a corner too.

Alex Evans has enrolled @ HSC. Evidently he was feed up catching 5 balls per season and has decided to play his final season in an offense that is built around the pass !!!!!!

Seriously, I liked watching him play as well because I love kids that get down field looking for yet another block.

To be honest I could accept that. He had really good hands and was just in the wrong system for him to take full advantage of his skills. But DIII isn't really all about football is it? That's why I like DIII more than big time football. Hopefully he will get his diploma and go on to have great memories from his time in Lexington.
