In reference to the discussion on the rise and demise of the BC program, I don't think there was any bigger impact than that of then BC vice president Jim Benson.  His years of tenure there coincide with the great rise to the top and then drop-off.  No coincidence either that he was in charge of admissions, financial aid and athletics during those years.  Some more info in the link.

Very interesting article! Thanks for posting. I simply take issue with terming the current program "demise". It certainly is off the heights, but Bridgewater has been significantly better post '05 than they were pre '00. So there has been a change in the program's overall fortune, even if they aren't at the heights they experienced for a few years.

I think you guys are great. No disrespect for any of you. I love reading the opinions that are expressed. It's my daily fix for information related to ODAC football. I can tell by my 16 up and 15 down in the karma ratings that I'm a little less politically correct. That's fine by me. I don't even know how to give or take away karma points. If I did I give all of you a 1000 +.

You'll get the ability after 100 posts. It doesn't really measure anything, but it can be fun now and then.

Actually (unless Pat has recently changed it) the ability to 'applaud' or 'smite' comes after 200 posts.

I think it's 200 also.

You guys are probably right. I can't remember. It seemed important at the time. Now I usually can't remember I have the ability. Nice to be able to reward someone for a good point or finding my mistakes, so +K to both of you!

I suck with Guilford this year. The game is at Guilford, they are two pretty similar teams. I watched both games against W&L and really wasn't blown away with either team. RMC was my pick to win the conference this year and I'm sticking with it this week. 24-17 the Jackets win on the road. And having said that I've probably guaranteed Guilford another win...

I know you've seen both teams and I've not seen either. Tradition tells me RMC will win but the Quakers must be vastly improved. I'm certain no ODAC team will take them for granted and get away with it.

That is certainly true. If anything, W&L had a better chance to beat RMC on the road than they did to beat GC at home. W&L was driving for a possible winning score late in the 4th against the Jackets when they fumbled, again, to blow a game. GC did a much better job of keeping the Generals offense off the field. However, I also think W&L played a much, much, much crappier game against the Quakers than they did against RMC. It should be a good game but I just can't help but think the first ODAC team that forces the Quakers to play catch up will get that young team making mistakes like they did in the OOC schedule. W&L, Shenandoah and Bridgewater didn't get out front.

I will say that next year, provided this core returns for the Quakers, I most likely will not be picking against them very often.

jk and tfa, I've enjoyed reading your comments on the Guilford/RMC match-up.  Very interesting and, I might add, really accurate.  No speculation on my part about this game - with Guilford, I've learned to comment after the game!  lol  With that said, Guilford should have beaten Averett.  It was an awful game from a weather standpoint - we gave them almost all their points by fumbling inside the 20, missed a chip shot FG on a drive that should have been a TD and had a TD called back on a penalty.  After all that, we lost by 3.  If played on a dry day, GC wins by 21.  AU was playing on the same field in the same conditions and didn't fumble, so kudos to them.  The Methodist game was back and forth ... we tied it at 34 with a couple of minutes to go and failed on an onside kick, which essentially gave the game to MU.  I understood later there was some miscommunication on the signal and that wasn't what the coaches wanted to do.  C'est la vie.

Guilford has a lot of sophomores and juniors that are performing really well, so the future does look bright (wearing shades as I type).  Outwardly, I see no reason this core group will not stay together and solidly compete for the ODAC not only this season, but in 2014 and 2015 as well.

+1 to both of you

Good luck on Saturday and I look forward to Nov. 2nd. Should be a really good game. I hope that GC fan that ran his mouth before the GC vs, HSC game last year on this board, does the same next week. I believe those post ended up in the locker room and provided additional motivation for the home team. Do what you can to get that guy involved !!!

Thanks.  I'm looking forward to November 2nd as well.  I don't know him personally, but I think I know the situation.  It was definitely genuine enthusiasm for the team and his son their first time through the ODAC, which, as a proud parent, I understand.  I'm guessing it's more subdued, and guarded, optimism this season.  A 68-24 smackdown has that sort of effect.  :)

I trust your comments are correct as that is my memory as well.
I'm a proud father of a HSC player and trust me, I would never go there. Words can only get you in trouble in those types of situations and a father's view of reality is often times not exactly accurate and probably a "little" overstated.
I hear it all the time both at Friday night games(high school) and Saturday games(college).

In addition to myself, I have a brother, a sister, two sons, a niece and three nephews who have competed athletically in either high school or college (or both), so I know what you say is true!
