Somebody finally got out in front of the Quakers. If it stands that will tighten things up a bit in the conference. W&L is struggling mightily with Catholic midway through the third. Catholic up by 3 and the Generals are gifting them a plethora of turnovers. Sigh.

jknezek

Catholic has been very accommodating in the fourth quarter gifting the Generals a pair of turnovers back. Both teams floundering around with 4 has been the story of the game. It's still been a screwy quarter. The Generals drove to a Catholic 8 yard line, went for it on 4th and 5, and turned the ball over on downs. Forced Catholic to go three and out and Catholic punted only to their own 29 yard line. Just under 2.5 minutes to go. The Generals up 14-10 and a TD on either the last possession or this one would put it away, but as has been the Generals problem this year, points just aren't coming.

jknezek

Generals sit 4th and 10 on Catholic's 20, but took the game clock all the way down to 20 seconds. Catholic has used their timeouts to try and get the ball back one more time. Catholic gets the ball back on their own 16 with 15 seconds left. No timeouts. Generals give up a pass interference penalty on a random jump ball to give Catholic a finally play from their own 31.

Ugly game ends. W&L just can't seem to score. But they grind out a win to go to 5-3, 3-2 in the conference and keep their long shot title hopes alive. They'll have to play much better on offense next week if they want to go to H-SC and find a win.

Well, JK, if we can say one thing about SU is that they seem to run hot and cold.

Awesome game by Hampton-Sydney this week. The Tigers were out for blood and got it.

Yeesh that was a beating. Anyone who was at the game have any comments? I haven't bothered to look up the stats yet, but I'd be real curious to know what happened. For some reason the Quakers have a stumbling block when it comes to H-SC. Welcome back to the title race R-MC (and W&L in an extreme long shot that will probably end next weekend).

Beautiful day, big crowd in Greensboro ... but those were the positives from Guilford's standpoint.

HSC won both sides of the ball today.  GC got a couple of first downs, but were unrecognizable from the team I've seen all season.  I really do believe GC has a mental block when it comes to HSC.  It was 7-0 Tigers and GC returned an interception to the 21, couldn't move it and then missed a FG.  I think that set the tone early.

It's baffling to me how GC crushed SU and jumped out early on RMC, RMC thoroughly whipped SU and SU beat HSC.  Go figure.

Met a lot of Hampden-Sydney fans yesterday.  The Tiger faithful travel well.  Thanks for making the trip.

Hope this doesn't turn overly negative for GC the next two weeks, but yesterday was quite disheartening for Guilford fans.  Keep the faith, men.

HSC came out strong and never took its foot off the accelerator. Guilford had a BAD day. HSC DLine manhandled the front 5 of GC. 8 sacks.  The HSC Oline played equally as well controlling the trenches and pounding the rock for 250 yards.

With their backs against the wall the Tigers gave their best effort of the year.  As our boys walked from the locker room to the field they were peppered from the GC tailgaters with typical fan smack.  It only strengthen our team's resolve. On the field, the GC players ran the mouths more than they ran the ball. Several unsportsmanlike penalties, and a first half blindside cheap shot on a kickoff.  Guilford coach seemed to be reminding his guys of that fairly strongly on the field after the game.

The win came at no surprise to the HSC faithful but the final score was certainly a huge surprise.

An update on the race for the ODAC championship ....

Hampden-Sydney will win the title by finishing with wins over W&L and RMC.  They could also win the title even after a loss to W&L, if they get the season-ending win over RMC, but Guilford would have to lose one of their last 2 games.  Obviously, the Tigers will be playing as if the ODAC championship is definitely on the line when they host the Generals next Saturday.

Guilford has wins over W&L and RMC, which puts them in a good place in the event of a tie-breaker with either of those teams for the conference championship.  They will win the title by finishing with wins over Catholic and EHC, but only if HSC loses to either W&L or RMC.  The Quakers could even win the title with a loss to one of their last two opponents, but that would probably be the case only if HSC loses to both W&L and RMC, and RMC loses to Bridgewater.

Randolph-Macon will win the title by finishing with wins over Bridgewater and HSC, but only if Guilford loses to either Catholic or EHC.

W&L could win the title only if they win their final 2 games against HSC and Shenandoah and (1) Guilford loses both of their games, and (2) RMC loses both of their games.  That would put W&L and HSC at the top of the ODAC with a 5-2 record ... and W&L would win the head-to-head tie-breaker over HSC and be the conference championship.  Clearly, there are a lot of game outcomes across the ODAC that the Generals will be hoping for .....

Interesting. After losing to RMC I gave up on the Generals winning outright. I was hoping for a share even if it didn't come with the playoff bid. Not real interested in that bid this year, but a shared title? Yeah, I'd take that given W&L's struggles. To be honest, 6-4 seems about right to me, but I'd be really happy with 7-3, title or not.

Reminds me of Maryville last year..extremely excited and grateful to have a share of the USAC title at 6-4, and also extremely excited and grateful that CNU had to go play Mount Union in the first round.

Yeah. The extra week of practice is nice, and seeing what it takes to be that quality is nice as well, but W&L has had that twice in the last couple years with teams that were better prepared for the challenge. I don't see much upside this year.

Perhaps. I think they caught H-SC in a trap game. But running hot and cold probably isn't unusual for a team with a new coach looking for a new identity. Truly an "any given week" conference.

JK...got a question worthy of your knowledge.

Say HSC wins the ODAC and Maryville holds on in the USAC. UMHB, Johns Hopkins are in, TLU and Millsaps makes it too. What other South Region teams, if any, do you see making the playoffs and what are the match ups?

Say HSC wins the #7 ODAC and #8 Maryville holds on in the USAC. #1 UMHB,  #2 Johns Hopkins are in, #4 TLU and #3 Millsaps makes it too. What other South Region teams, if any, do you see making the playoffs and what are the match ups?
#5 Wesley and #6 W&J.

#1 UMHB vs #4 TLU in the Texas Sub-bracket
#2 JHU hosting #7 Hampden-Sydney
#3 Millsaps hosting #8 Murvul  (geographic proximity, the only other school close enough to Millsaps)
#5 Wesley hosting #6 W&J
