In many ways I agree with your post, Narch, but in making your argument you seem to be confusing "seeding" and "regional ranking".
you can't separate the two, though...regional rankings exist, in large part, to determine playoff seeding

Great then look at the regional rankings.  As HSCTiger74 just posted - Thomas More, Millsaps and TLU didn't make the playoffs and Maryville lost, leaving the Tigers behind only Washington U. in the lower half of the bracket

No one at HSC or Maryville had anything to do with deciding who they played in the playoffs. Both teams did however EARN their chance to play. I would think Maryville and HSC are both very excited about this opportunity. It's good for both teams and conferences.

Further would you still be complaining if Methodist were in Maryville's shoes?  I doubt it.

Congrats. I had no idea how you guys won. Must have been very exciting.

I imagine the head coach at E&H had a very difficult conversation with the AD explaining exactly how his team found a way to get beat after holding a commanding lead in the the third quarter. Being a head coach is not always easy, but it sounds like E&H stopped playing.

Someone, I forget who, posted earlier this year the ODAC champion would host a playoff game and win at least two playoff games. After all the ODAC teams had 2 or more losses, I put up a snarky post about how that wouldn't happen.

I'm not saying HSC will go 3 games deep in the playoffs, but I am going to eat some crow for being snarky as I really thought there was no way on this green earth an ODAC team would host...

Maybe not crow. I believe I said I'd eat my hat. Stay tuned for pictures if HSC pulls it off. Probably be worth it. I'm sure I can order an edible hat online somewhere, I'd just be afraid of what kind of mailing lists it would put me on...

I am. I'm pulling for me to have to eat my hat. As of Saturday evening I'm an HSC football fan for as many weeks as necessary in this playoff cycle!

And I was a special case for W&L. They let me in thinking it would open a new market (h.s.). Silly admissions staff.

Thanks for the link Wasper. If it becomes necessary I will make sure pictures are available somewhere.

i'm not sure why things always get so personal with you, but yes...i would think that hsc should not be hosting even if they were playing mu (and i wouldn't think that mu should host)...i have the ability to separate emotion - there are a probably a number of options that would have allowed both maryville and hsc to be on the road as two of the lowest seeded teams in the tournament without incurring a lot more travel expenses...read this from http://d3football.com/notables/2013/11/playoff-bracket-released?t=1384885240970
QuoteMost surprising home game: Not sure why Hampden-Sydney and Franklin get home games. Considering where they were in the last non-secret regional rankings, it doesn't make sense. We managed to get semi-remote teams such as Washington U. and Maryville drivable opponents without giving home games to teams that were ranked ninth in last week's regional rankings. We gave those home games to Wartburg, who was eighth in a stacked West last week, and Lebanon Valley, which wouldn't be lower than sixth, thanks to all the losses in the East this week.

QuoteFour teams, two games

It is not a surprise that the four teams from this column are playing one another in the first round. What is surprising is the matchups. Undefeated Johns Hopkins will host Wesley, which is making its ninth straight playoff appearance. The Blue Jays are ranked 10th in the final Top 25 poll, while the Wolverines are ranked 15th. There was almost no doubt that the Blue Jays would host a first round game, but few expected them to draw the perennially powerful Wolverines.

Meanwhile, 8-2 Hampden-Sydney will host Maryville. The Tigers earned the ODAC's automatic bid by stuffing Randolph-Macon's two-point conversion attempt with 1:35 to play in an absolute classic edition of The Game. Still, it is surprising that a two-loss ODAC champion gets the home game.

if methodist were in m'ville's shoes, i'd be incredibly happy for 3 reasons 1 - the monarchs would still be playing; 2 - the monarchs would have a winnable first-round game; 3 -  because i'm certain that i'd go to that game...not sure i'd make the trip to alliance and spend an extra 5 or so hours in the car - being happy about it wouldn't make it right, though

i've never criticized hsc or m'ville for a decision the selection committee made, but i do think the decision made by the selection committee was silly

Thanks, it was very exciting indeed.  I won't say E&H stopped playing, but I will say Guilford started playing.  When we intercepted a pass and drove 40+ yards to score and went for two to make it 31-15, you could clearly see the momentum shifting.  I've watched Quaker football for 44 seasons and it will definitely be a game long remembered at Guilford.

Maybe I take it personally based on that fact that you only seem to have negative things to say on the ODAC board about our QB and or our having a home game. You seemed to take having a win against your Monarchs being labeled a non-quality win very personally.  Why can I not have just as much passion for my team?  HSC fans were all surprised and grateful to have a home game. You come in saying - well you may have a home game but you did not deserve it. Great we got your point. Go ahead and ding my karma but I call that pissing on the parade.

I did not suggest that you would not think HSC should not host if they were playing MU. I did say I doubt you'd be complaining about it. No one at Maryville is saying - I wish we were playing Mt. Union. No one at HSC is saying I wish we were on the road. It is what it is.  Call it silly, or anything you want but the committee decided otherwise. We did not ask for the home game but we will take it.

actually, i don't ever recall saying anything negative about the hsc qb...find it, quote it, and i'll own it if i said anything negative - in fact, i remember that i said many positive things about him - i simply stated my opinion that he is not an sec quality qb (proven by the fact that he is not on a sec roster and has never taken a snap in an sec game) - forgive me if i don't wax poetic about nash nance...i have had the privilege of watching the best qb in the region this season, and i realize he's not an sec caliber qb - i don't think max reber himself would be offended by that comment, yet somehow you take it personally when i say it about your guy...

i have also posted positive things about ehc and guilford this season, and in previous seasons i've posted about many topics on this board...i've been following d3 football closely for over 15 years and frequently post throughout the south region - the conversation about nash nance and about the guilford loss to mu being "very unimpressive" went back and forth for a few days and may have skewed your view - if you choose to read only the "negative things" i say about hsc, i have no control over that

...nope...i took offense to calling a close loss on the road to a team that was at the time 5-2 against a solid schedule (if i remember correct) and had a realistic shot of going 7-3 or 8-2 being labeled as "very unimpressive"

How long did it take you to write this? You've got a lot of time on your hands. I don't. You come on the ODAC board to tell us that Nance is not a SEC QB. Got it. You come on this board and tell us HSC does not deserve a home game. Thanks. You've been very helpful.

Your sole purpose for those posts was to shine a negative light. Not a positive one. Just so you know I'll take it as personal as I please. If I cared about karma I would not have replied.

Having said that I relent you are the victor. Your opinions are great. Can we now drop it?
