Time to start talking about next year.

HSC returns 8 on defense. Losing -
LB Ikwild (ODAC defensive player of the year)
DB Morgan (All ODAC and Richmond TD Club DB of the year)
S Fogleman (5th year senior and captain)

HSC returns 5 on offense. Losing-
4 or 5 of their offensive line. One player is appealing for a redshirt so it could be all 5.
RB Shembo
They return, QB Nance, WR Walker, TE Druhan, WR Mey, WR Kernan, and Leading rusher RB Macko,

HSC looks positioned well to win the ODAC again next year. The defense last season finished the regular season ranked 18th in the nation allowing only 279 yards per game. Next years defense will feature at least 7 seniors and 2 junior and 1 Soph returning that started at some point this past season. Offensively, we return the best QB and WR tandem in the nation (Nash and Walker). The running game will go to Macko who started a few games but generally played as a back up. He ran for 171 yards against CUA.

The only question mark for HSC will be replacing possibly all 5 offensive linemen. If they can replace the big guys upfront with another quality unit they will have potentially the best team ever at HSC.

Hasa what's happening at Guilford?

JK is WL back in the title hunt?

What about the rest of you guys?  What are your expectations next year?
Hampden Sydney College
ODAC Champions 77, 82, 83, 87, 07, 09, 11, 13, 14
NCAA Playoffs - 77, 07, 09, 10, 11, 13, 14
The "Game" 60 wins and counting...

I don't think the Generals will be in the hunt next year, but they do get an easier home/away schedule. Nick Lombardo and Luke Terna both graduate, leaving Charlie Nelson to be the probable QB. Charlie was good this year as a FY, and I like him in 2015 and '16, but as a sophomore he'll need a lot of help.  Some of that help will come from Marshal Hollerith, W&L's leading rusher as a FY this year and he is going to be a handful for the ODAC for the next couple years.

Austin Eisenhofer, Jimmy Moynahan, Dylan Stanfield and a host of other underclassmen are also back in the backfield, with Eisenhoffer being the only incoming senior in the slotback/RB roles.  So the offensive skill positions have experience, but they will be young, young, young. At receiver the Generals graduate 2 of three leading recivers in Terna and John Hewell. Somewhere they need to get more action from the underclassmen than they got this year.

The offensive line loses Connor Hollenbeck, which is a huge loss, also Lee Cummings and Bobby Jones who were consistent starters and earned various honors. That is going to be a crucial rebuilding.

Both field goal kickers and the main punter are back, as are all the return men.

On defense you are going to lose the top three leading tacklers, accounting for Ramsey at DB and Palicz and Partee at LB. After that you mostly have underclassmen until you hit Peaseley and Shulte and a few other guys that played consistently and well but weren't massive impact types.

The Generals didn't have a lot of seniors, but they had them in important roles and the seniors this year were mostly big contributors. The class of '15 appears a bit thin, so we will have to see who steps up. Due to injuries and the season tailing off, a lot of underclassmen got minutes this year, but I think W&L is a year away from competing for the title again. Kind of a bummer since 2014 has the better schedule.

HSCTiger fan, I think the Quakers are well-positioned for the next two seasons.  Here's the 2013 roster:

http://www.guilfordquakers.com/sports/fball/2013-14/roster

As you can see, there were relatively few seniors and a LOT of underclassmen who got significant playing time.  QB Pawlowski, RB Schow, WRs Smith/Read/Christopher, DB Gooch and K/P Hunt are all Sophomores.  DBs Stevenson/English and LB Smith are all Juniors.  The OL and DL are young, big and getting stronger. I don't mean to overlook anyone, but those names quickly come to mind.  Rusiewicz is a great recruiter and motivator.  Coming off a break-through 6-4, 5-2 season, I'm sure Guilford is attractive to new recruits and the existing players are certainly motivated to compete for the ODAC.  We've beaten RMC, SU and BC two seasons in a row, but, of course, the HSC psychological hurdle is still present - and the 2014 game will be in Farmville.  All in all, however, I would personally rank Guilford in the top 3 in next season's preseason ODAC poll.  The future is bright on Friendly Avenue, so I'm wearing shades in Greensboro for at least the next two seasons.  :)

Sounds like another competitive year in the ODAC. Probably no easy outs and the top of the league will be challenged each and every week by the lower end of the league. As we all know and understand, that is what makes ODAC football so much fun. Hopefully the winner can find away to go 9-1 and position themselves for a home playoff game or two.
I think Macon in going to be really good as well. Those guys have been really good on the recruiting trail for the last three or four years. So I see the preseason coaches poll going something like this:

1) HSC
2) RMC
3) GC
4) W&L
5) BC
6) SU
7) CAU
8) E&H

Reading that statement made me a little ill. I think I'll finish digesting this season and enjoying the playoffs. I'll start pondering 2014 seriously in late spring or early summer...

Jk

I hear you but it is fun to look forward to the 2014 season. If I don't I'll have to pay attention to basketball and that does not thrill me.

I remember ruminating a couple years ago about HSC having to get the BC monkey off their back. (Words to that effect for Jacket Lawyer ;)) They did after much degradation. Will GC-Q? I don't know.

. HSC TigerFan your story sounds good for HSC but as we all know ; the Offensive Line is the cornerstone of all great teams. You are correct in saying "potentially" best team ever but that is a huge "potentially" with no starter coming back on OL with the exception of the redshirt ! Just Saying ? You've NOW given great hope to all other ODAC fans on HSC weakness for 2014 ! Your coaching staff will earn their pay coaching up the new guys ! Congrats on a  Great Season this year !

I don't think it was a huge secret that HSC lost its OL to graduation. I'm confident the group will be strong.

Come on darn it boys. I picked the Wolverines to scratch those Mount puppies. I thought they would score alot but I have to say I was astonished at 59 and lose.

I still should get stroked.  :)
