I feel good about Guilford's chances this season and sincerely think 7-3 or better is possible.  We do have W&L at home and I was at last season's game in Lexington ... it was only 16-7, but GC controlled the game. HSC is obviously a big physical (and pyschological) hurdle for the Quakers.  It doesn't help that this year's game is in Farmville, but, honestly, how could it be worse than last year in Greensboro?  lol  I'm not sure about 2nd, but I do believe upper half of the ODAC.

This may help in making your selections. I looked back at the 2 deep roster from when each ODAC team played HSC. I realize with injuries and position changes the 2 deep can change from week to week.  I used the last regular season game for HSC. So take it for what it's worth, here is my prediction.

HSC 6 Offense 8 Defense starters / 20 back-ups
RMC 8 Offense 8 Defense starters / 21 back-ups
SU 11 Offense 7 Defense starters / 18 back-up
GC 9 Offense 9 Defense starters / 20 back-ups
WL 6 Offense 5 Defense starters / 19 back-ups
BC 5 Offense 9 Defense starters / 19 back-ups
CUA 4 Offense 6 Defense starters / 20 back-ups
EH 4 Offense 6 Defense starters / 19 back-ups
Hampden Sydney College
ODAC Champions 77, 82, 83, 87, 07, 09, 11, 13, 14
NCAA Playoffs - 77, 07, 09, 10, 11, 13, 14
The "Game" 60 wins and counting...

Mark today. HSC gets beat 12-9 by GC-Q and goes 9-1 and to the playoffs. The Quakes go 8-2 and sit

The odds of HSC scoring less than 20 aren't good. 49 the last 50 regular season games HSC has scored 19 points or more. If GC or any other team is going to beat HSC they are going to have to score more than 12 points.

That's the kind of point total you'd see in baseball, not football!

The 12 was a possibility for Germany versus Brazil in the World Cup.  :)  All kidding aside, I do remember 3-0 and 2-0 scores in consecutive years in Catawba (NC) and Carson-Newman (TN) football games!  Someone look it up and then tell me how old I am.  lol

hscathletics sounds like he never played a hate game in the 1970's against the dreaded Hank Norton Panthers ;) and his "black hats" with the Lees-McRae Bobcats

I think you might be overlooking the first game (Wabash) for HSC as you will be facing one of the best if not the best defense in the country. Throw in a great  special teams and HSC just might have there hands full. Also if Wabash's 2 stud running backs can stay healthy it could be a long day for the HSC defense. September 6 can't get here soon enough!

Everything you just said could be said by HSC as Wabash will also be facing one of the nations best defenses. HSC brings back an all conference kicker and a punter, both missed all of last season with injuries. Their return will provide depth and strong special teams. And if HSC's 2 studs stay healthy on offense, it could be a long day for Wabash.  I agree Sept. 6 cannot get here soon enough.

GC beats HSC 12 to 9; really ???

Tigers might get beat but they will score more than 9 points. I've seen this game the past three years and I believe the Tigers have exceeded 45 + points each of those years. I doubt the GC defense has improved that much over night, if they have more power to them. Should be a good game to watch but I'd wager we'll see more than 9 points scored by the Tigers; 12 sounds about right for GC !!!!

I think preseason rankings are basically worthless but D111 has HSC ranked #21 going into the season. First game opponent ranked #16.

The guys over at D3 do alright with pre season. They have been semi impressive since I started trolling around here in 1999 or whenever. However MOST polls are problematic.

years ago HSC had a monkey on their back called the Eagles. I think they went 9-1 one year and still missed the show. Finally after 5 or 6 straight heart breakers that cost them the playoffs.  The Tigers broke thru. (I think a number of bodies were found later around the Eagle campus, but I digress).

GC-Q will break thru with their monkey AKA HSC. One day

I would agree that most pre season rankings aren't worth there weight but D3 does seem to be more accurate than most. I guess we will find out about 2 ranked teams September 6th anyway.

GO BASH!

21 looks right to me. HSC has a lot to prove before they should be considered an elite team by anyone who knows D3 and isn't HSC biased. That being said this will be a heck of a chance to make that statement.
