When saying who is the best QB or second best, it all depends on what you look for in a QB. Is it someone who throws for lots of yards, is it someone who wins ballgames, is it someone who manages the game, or is it someone who has proven to be good. Personally I think it is someone who manages the game and uses the talent around him to win championships. They dont have to throw the ball 50 times a game. But they do have to win the game. Honestly I don't think Ricca is the best QB in the ODAC so Im glad you posted to poll as supposedly. Is Dan Marino the best QB because he has the most yards? Seems like that is what is being assumed by the poll question. Of course my answers may be biased because I am a BC alum. So you know what my answer is.

I know this is an old beat up topic, but I was reading over the old posts after the BC-HSC game ... and I was wondering where Sydney ranked (in the country) in 4th down conversion attempts a game (I know, something is wrong with me).

Anyway, they came in at #15 ... and of the schools above them, the Tigers have the best 4th down completion percentage.  Although H-SC is just one of four schools of the 18 listed in the top 15 that have a winning record.  Admittedly, this doesn't show what the circumstances where for going for it, but none-the-less shows in fact that Sydney does go for it a lot and is quite successful.

Hanover came in at #22 with 2.83 attempts a game ... being good on 12 of 17 (70.6%).

kid,

The real stat would be, how many attempts were taken within their own territory.  Or attempts of five yards or more.

Ron Boerger

Crummy teams are going to have more fourth-down attempts because they have to try and get back into games.   If you're good, you're converting on second and third down instead of having to wait until fourth.

Having a lot of fourth down tries is an invitation for disaster.  Sooner or later it's going to bite you in the butt.

Matt Barnhart (kid)

Or it could be because they don't have a punter.  But I agree, more often then not, it's because the team is down and is going for in during the second half.  Evern 4-1 Albright falls into that category, I believe they were down in most - if not all - of their games.  But I believe Hampden-Sydney (other than the Bridgewater game) had always had a lead - a comfortable one at that - in their four wins.

Or it could mean that your coach has NO respect for the opponent's defense.  In which case,

hey bmorebc, that is ludicrous. ask mike clark who he would rather have.  or picture lewis qbing at hsc and ricca at bridgewater....its a joke.  The spread would have been 35.  go cards!

Frank,
A better question would be if Ricca would have been as proficient at BC with all of the weapons he would have had backing him up? I've been under the impression for years that Ricca's outstanding numbers come from the fact that he is THE team...he HAS to put up huge numbers passing for his team to get by.. they depend on him heavily.    But then again Ricca has never won one of the BIG games in his career, Jacob has, as of right now I'd take Jacob over Ricca.  (Or even Robbie Jenkins or Brandon Wakefield for that matter)   Ricca is a great player but I just don't see him fitting into BC's system at all.. Colbert would enjoy having him at times but BC is a more balanced team/system than HSC will ever be.

franknizy

BY YOUR REASONING TRENT DILFER, JOEY HARRINGTON, & BRIAN GRIESE ARE SUPERIOR TO BRETT FAVRE.  RICCA DOESNT PLAY D OR SPECIAL TEAMS OR COACH FOR THAT MATTER.  STOP BLAMING THE QB FOR HSCS COACH NOT BEING ABLE TO WIN THE BIG ONE. WAKEFIELD & JENKINS ARE NOT IN THE SAME CLASS AS RICCA (INSERT NUMBERS HERE) HE WILL OWN EVERY STAT IN THE ODAC IN A LITTLE OVER 2 YRS OF PLAYING. THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE. GO CARDS

Frankie, If a quarterback passes 45-50 times a game every game, including sorry teams, they are bound to throw for over 300 yards everygame. So to say he is this great qb because of that is not a reall good point. BC qb's over the years put up 220+ yards a game on 20-25 attempts a game, if that. Individual records are for losers. Championships are for winners. Ask Ricca he would probably want to play for BC if he could do it all over again, that is if he wanted to be a winner.

Those QB's may have been superior in college but not in the NFL. Your right Ricca plays offense. the same offense that has not OUTSCORED BC.

this post should get me off the D@#*##&@#* JV team and sitting my butt firmly on the second string bench.  uh oh, since I play for Bridgewater, and I'm second string, I'll be playing by the second quarter this Saturday.

You may want to be ready in the first quarter Pak! Not because we will be way ahead, but because our team uses depth right out of the box. I have never seen a coach substitute as much as Coach Clark, and I thank him for it after every game when I see how well we play in the 4th quarter. ;)
