Last year GC was 4-0 in the ODAC with 3 games to play. They lost 2 of those games. Point is at 3-0 HSC has only locked up a .500 season. Their are a lot of games to be played.

Not to be picky, but at 3-0 HSC has only locked up a 3 win season. They could still lose their last four games and finish 3-4, although I very strongly doubt that would happen.

We're all having fun with the nitpicking lately. CUA and CAU, CMR's math (yep, that was me with an assist from Hasa), and now HSCTiger's math. It's all in good fun...

Believe me, with all the math errors I make doing the Pick-ems I'm more susceptible to nitpicking than anyone. I'm really just glad to see that I'm not the only one.  ;)

That's for sure ... there are a lot of games remaining that can decide the ODAC championship.

Best of luck and congrats !!!

I've missed one HSC game since my son has been playing and that was due to a family wedding, so I understand but don't understand why a football fan would plan an October wedding !!!!

Your right,  I did not make point very clear. I was thinking only guaranteed a 5-5 overall season.

A HSC loss to SU would put SU in the first place.  This is a huge game this weekend.

I was a groomsman in a family wedding this weekend. I compromised with my wife. She could have my phone during the ceremony so I wasn't tempted to sneak peeks, but I got to have it during the reception. I also agreed to do all the dancing she wanted (less gimmicky and irritating things like the macarena) so long as after the wedding was over my brother in law and I could find a bar to watch football until midnight.

I won't say it was a good compromise, but since we were both marginally unhappy I think it was as good as we were going to get. Weddings during football season are not good...

GC2005

Well, I can tell you guys without hesitation that I didn't plan the wedding during football season.   ;)  When I was informed of the date of the wedding I just stood in the kitchen and looked at her like she should know better...

Sounds like you guys got to a decent compromise JK, I found a good one though because she thought of the laptop.  Not to mention that she wants to go to a lot of games during the fall.  This just happens to be the one fall that I have missed a considerable amount of football...which in my mind is unacceptable.   As for dancing, this guy is not the most fleet of foot or agile...so I will be readying my excuses this week so that I am prepared.

As for football, I just checked the schedule and all of the games look interesting.  I think the one that interests me the most is the HSC/SU game.  I do know that SU pulled off an upset last year, and I am guessing it was at HSC, which makes it seem double tough.

I think the GC/RMC game will be close.  I haven't heard much about RMC, once again though, if they run the ball between the tackles and they are successful with it, then it might spell a long day for GC.  I was just proud of GC this week for stepping up and stopping the run when it counted the most.  I noticed the GC offense looked more run oriented than usual this week.  I'm not why, it appeared that most of the passes thrown were types of swing passes out of the backfield and short slants.  It just didn't seem like Guilford tried to get as vertical as they normally do.  Maybe Hasa can help me with some insight on that one.

I think W&L can hang with BC.  Don't get me wrong, BC is a solid football team, but I think the W&L run game could give them problems.  BC appears to be pretty big up front on both sides of the ball, and their run defense was suspect at times against GC.

I haven't heard much from CUA this fall, but I am sure they played hard against SU.  It sound like E&H is much improved and they have a very good offense.

Overall it'll be fun to see how these games turnout.

And thanks for the congrats guys...you are all much more optimistic than my co-workers.   ;)

I think there were a several factors at play in the run-oriented offense by GC versus BC:

RB Schow was back from an injury
Perhaps they were trying to take a bit of mental pressure off Pawlowski since he had a three INT (2 for pick six) game last week
It was working from the onset

GC2005

Hasa,

We noticed Schow was not playing in the W&L game, but the good thing is that Bell has been doing a nice job filling in and getting good experience for a freshman.  We also kicked around the idea that Pawlowski had a rough outing against SU and there might be some mental doubt or hesitancy there.  It seems as if GC has a group of capable receivers so at times we got frustrated.  I definitely got tired of seeing a running back in motion pre-snap and just seeing that swing pass.  It wasn't all that effective.  The good thing is that GC showed a little versatility being able to change up the offensive game plan and still be effective.  They did have a couple of nice draw plays along the way.

SU has posted game notes on its website for this weeks game against HSC - http://static.psbin.com/z/9/fvjd822emunr73/fbgamenotes14_hsc.pdf

Another tidbit on Holton Walker of HSC.  He now has 3 of the 7 best single game receiving efforts in ODAC history - 3rd best with 275 yards against EH this past Saturday. 4th best with 268 yards against Maryville in the playoffs last year.  And 7th best with 235 yards against Averett in the season opener last season.

I know it is early in the season to mention career records but here are a few things to watch for from Walker the rest of the way in his senior year.  He's so much fun to watch play.

Career receptions - Conrad Singh, HSC 287 (Walker currently has 230)
Career receiving yards - Nick Bublavi, CUA 4485 (Walker currently has 3852 ranks 3rd all time)
Career receiving TDs - Nick Bublavi, CUA 43 (Walker currently has 35 ranks 3rd all time)

I don't know if Bublavi started and/or played a lot over all 4/5 years. The ODAC records show he played from 01-05.  Which means he potentially played part of 5 seasons. Singh had 45 receptions as a freshman. Walker as a freshman was behind first-team all American WR Kyle Vance and as a result only had 2 receptions, zero TDs and 36 yards after his freshman year.

HSCTiger,

Ahh, Bublavi and Singh, excellent football players...capable of giving any secondary nightmares.  I remember the Ricca to Singh connection quite well.  Though I think the second coming of Ricca in a CUA uniform was after my time.

Schow was out a couple of games with an injury suffered in practice, but you're right, Bell did great.

HSCTiger Fan , With all due respect to Walker I personally believe without the HSC QB Walkers stats are probably not as good. They both have benefited from each other. But without QB Nance HSC is fighting for their lives  every game. Nance is arguably the best QB in ODAC history. He is probably the best QB in D3 . Nance's stats in the first 3 ODAC games this year are amazing. They are a super Tandem. I wish them well but will be happy to see them graduate !

Michael Herbert

You're right, superfan.  Nash is probably the best QB in D3 and one of the best in ODAC history but I don't think things are going to get any easier once he graduates.  There will still be a deep receiving crew as well as a pretty solid QB in either Edgar Moore or Kyle Farlow.  Everyone knows Marty loves his QBs.  In all of his opportunities, Moore has done what he needed to do.  Of course we don't want to see Nash graduate, but when he does, we'll be ok...not at the same level, but we'll be ok.

Patience ODACSuperFan. I was going to write about Nash Nance today. His talent is simply amazing. There's no doubt that Nance and Walker are a tandem. I love watching both of these guys.

I see Saturday, Oct. 25, is Homecoming at RMC for the Guilford game.  I've been on the campus twice before and know where Day Field is, but I've never been to a Randolph-Macon football game.  Any advice from Macon fans on the best (any) places to park?  Thanks.

PS  I've been to Guilford's first six games ... and hope to make it to all ten this season.
