Is H-SC's defense that good and CNU's offense that bad?  Can't say at this point, but time will tell....

I think that's a fair question for both. I can say that although the scoreboard may not indicate it, the defense played well against Wabash. Yes they gave up 35 points and Wabash may even taken their foot off the gas. But in that game HSC offense had more 3 and outs than first downs. The HSC D was on the field in 90 degree heat for nearly 39 of 60 minutes. Granted they were hard pressed to get Wabash O off the field, they did make Wabash earn their yards. The HSC defense also created 3 first half turnovers on the Wabash ball control offense. Last year HSC had a horribly low 8 QB sacks. They have 3 already this year.

Like you said time will tell. But from what I've seen thus far this is an aggressive, QB pressuring, turnover causing, flying around defense.

Just read on ODAConline.com that RMC QB was the offensive player of the week. Very deserving with 376 passing and 99 rushing. I was just surprised to see he was a freshman. Does Pedro only recruit QBs every 4 years?  Their last guy Naccarrato was a 4 year starter.

Both Nacarrato and the new guy, Vairo, are lefties. And Nacarrato is on the coaching staff now.

The Guilford Averette game will be interesting. Not for who is going to win. But because it's a game against D3s leading offense against D3s worst defense.

On one hand you have Averette.  Averette has allowed 1428 yards of offense, and  has allowed 112 points.

On the other hand you've got Guilford. Guilford has 1241 yards of offense and has scored 132 points.

This will be no more than a scrimmage in uniforms.

Over/Under on points by Guilford - 80?
Over/Under on total offense by Guilford - 750?

I really don't know.

I do think that the powers that be at Guilford have done no favors to thier team by scheduling some of the weakest defensive teams in D3 football. I know when the games were scheduled no one new what these teams would be like. But history has told us that defensively the are typically atrocious. I'm sure for Guilford it won't matter, but the Quakers will not face another opponent this year as weak as the 3 they play/ed in non-conference.

This could be true, or close to true, for almost half of the ODAC teams. Guilford and W&L certainly, Shenandoah and Catholic perhaps, though I think Rochester is probably better than the worst ODAC teams, NC Wesleyan maybe not. As was discussed earlier in the year, the ODAC OOC schedules are generally putrid with the exception of a few games.

As we've discussed at length, I am not a fan of GCQ's OOC, but ...

- Two of the three games are against NC-based D3's (and there are only 4 of us playing football) and we have played both every year since they started football.
- Averett is 50 miles away in Danville, VA and I know GCQ has a well-documented budget crunch for athletics this season.  Every dollar counts.
- I agree the OOC schedule could/should be tougher, but economics is the primary driver.

Regarding the over/under on points and yards ... I just don't think Coach Rusiewicz will let the offense go that high ... especially on points.  In both the first two games, he pulled the starters after 8 TDs.  In the Greensboro game, the 2nd and 3rd guys scored 3 more ... you can't keep those guys from trying.  Against MU, they were not as productive and clearly started slowing down around the 4 minute mark.  I can see QB Pawlowski and his receivers with the potential to have a 500-yard passing game.

Hasa not meant a slam on Guilford. Every team has to play the teams in fron of them. They have absolutely destroyed the teams they have played. Guilford is deserving of their ranking and expectations. I agree that travel costs certainly are a concern. I really don't have a problem with whom Guilford or anyone else chooses to schedule and I agree with everything who just said. My point is simple this lightweight schedule does little to help them in conference play.

Do they have the ability? Yes.
Will they? Don't know. What goes around, comes around in D3. Of course, Guilford has earned the "come around".

Wasn't taken as a slam, TigerFan ... I fully agree winning against a tougher schedule makes the decision of who's in and who's out easier.  I think the ODAC champ is probably the only team going this year anyway unless two teams dominate all year and finish 10-0/9-1 and play a barnburner against each other.  lol

The last and maybe only ODAC team to get an at large bid was HSC in 2010. They finished 2nd in ODAC with a 9-1 overall record. They had a road win at Salisbury earlier that season. I personally don't think Guilford or any other ODAC team for that matter can go 9-1, finish 2nd in the conference and make the playoffs with the teams they played OOC. HSC has what appears now to have the signature win in OOC for the ODAC with their victory over CNU. But HSC's only shot at playoffs IMO is an ODAC championship. They aren't going to make it at 8-2 and a second place ODAC finish. This year I'm confident it's all or nothing to get a playoff bid for all ODAC teams.

There is a really good discussion of the Pool C bid deliberations and conjecturing from the archives of the boards.

Here is the link to the Pool C board from 2010.  Great discussions from Frank Rossi and K-Mack. Enjoy
