I watched the game. It wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Healthy Trenton Shuler plays and the Scots might have scored 50. Run game was down, ie. 1st downs.

Final Guilford 58, Averett 21

Quakers moved the ball at will, but weren't as sharp on defense as I hoped in the first half.  With that said, Cougars had some skill players on offense.  Second string GC offense was driving late in the game, but fumbled and gave up the final score on a 94-yard return by AU.  WR Adam Smith scored three times and moved into first place on the Guilford career Receiving TD list with 35 in 33 games ... ironic he came to camp as a freshman as a QB.

Nice crowd on hand ... one of whom was former Davidson and current Golden State star Stephen Curry.  Gate announced as 2850 ... and I believe it.

Still shaking my head at the RMC game. Narch were you there?  Anyone from RMC care to share their thoughts? MU came into the game having scored only 2 offensive TDs. Those TDs were against Apprentice - the game your school schedules because you cannot find anyone else to play.

RMC had 3 INTs, one resulted in 3 points for MU another was a Hail Mary in the end zone at the end of the game. The freshman QB Vairo who had such a great game the week before evidently did not play although the participation report shows his name.

Where was Vairo?
What happen to the defense?
Was this a fluke or a sign of things to come?
Will Pedro ban his players from liking, following, sharing anything on social media with MU players?
Has the color green now joined garnet and gray as forbidden colors for team meetings?
Did the team meet in the locker room at RMC and stare longingly at the "Days til we beat HSC" clock?

These are questions that need answering

Yes, the Guilford report noted he was related to Coach Adams ... thanks for clarifying the connection.

Guilford moved up a spot to 24 (40 points to 59 this week) with Hobart's loss.   Maryville getting some votes with their impressive wins over ETSU and now E&H.

Now that I'm finally in front of a computer in the comfort of my home, here's my thoughts on the E&H game..

Great crowd. Awesome venue. Dry campus. 2 of 3 ain't bad.
I think they said 6200 attended and I believe it. MC had an ok crowd, but Tennessee was playing around the same time. Their games kill our attendance at home games and close away games. I guess they wanted to see UT kill the all powerful Western Carolina.

Still shocked at the defense. I would have bet before the game they would have scored at least 4 TDs. Not because I have little faith in MC, but because they are potent. Turnovers and penalties killed the Wasps.

MC got out to a quick 16-0 lead and then started to slow down. I was glad the game didn't end up like last year. (MC up 13-0 at half, loses 14-13.) Up 30-13 after a long pitch and catch, the Scots ran down the clock and held E&H to several 3 and outs in the fourth.

Trenton Shuler didn't play and it didn't seem to much matter in the early stages. We weren't able to pick up several first downs that I think he would have gotten. Very proud other guys stepped up.

I look for Maryville to roll into the Huntingdon game looking to end that streak too. First win over E&H since '99. 1-3 since rivalry renewed in '12. Also heard an older guy say it was the first time winning in Emory since '92.

Shenandoah moves to (3-0) with 30-17 win over NCW.
Nice.  Congratulations to the Hornets.  Nervously looking forward to SU's visit to GC on October 10 ... I drove to Winchester last October and it was a long drive home.  The Hornets played well and obviously have talent.  The Quakers will be pumped.

With a few games under the belt how do you guys see your favorite teams?

HSC has a lot of upside. Most of the offseason talk was how HSC was going to replace their QB/WR combo. The answer is they aren't trying to do so. The offense is quite a bit different than what current ODAC players are accustomed to seeing. All the defensive game notes from the last 3 years are virtually useless. HSC has explosive playmakers in several players. 3 players with runs of 20 or more yards (another with a 19 yard run) and 5 players with receptions of over 30 yards.  The past 3 years there were very few passes caught by RBs. Last year for example the RBs caught 16 passes in 11 games. This year in just 3 games the RBs have already caught 15.

Defensively the Tigers have been very good. They are causing turnovers and pressuring the QB. Which is something that simply did not happen much last year.  The defensive line has been dominate in 2 of 3 games. One thing that excites me about the defense is the way they played CNU. CNU kicked a FG after a 27 yard drive and scored a meaningless TD in the last minute. The same CNU offense scored 17 against Wesley in the first 17 minutes the very next week.

The most exciting thing is the Tigers are young and will continue to improve. IMO HSC will be a very tough team to defeat the rest of the way. They're aggressive, loose and confident.  In the last 3 years HSC has lost a game or more to every team in the conference except 2 - GC and EH.  The same 2 teams most are saying are the odds on favorites to take the crown.  The last time EH beat HSC was in 2001. GC has not won over HSC since 1999. Coach Favret is 28/2 against these teams. 26/0 since 2002. I like this Tiger team and I really like their chances at a 3 peat.

Hmmm ... Stephen Curry's visit to Guilford in the Quakers' win over Averett is mentioned in Around the Region.  Surprise, there is an ad for avocados featuring Stephen Curry on the same page.  :)   Econ 101.

Maryville didn't win at E&H in 92.  14-0 Wasps.  Wasps went 10-0 in regular season.

I was still being potty trained in 92. Heard it from an old alum at the game but didn't feel like checking sources afterwards. +k for catching it.

Gettysburg deservedly won the Play of the Week, but Guilford/Averett nomination was one of the five finalists.  Check it out!

Anyone ever hear a thing about why Vairo didn't play Saturday?  He went from Player of the Week to DNP-- resulting in an upset and not a peep?
