W&L beats Methodist 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament in the other kind of football, keeping the ODAC dominance over the USASAC going...
Way to go ... nice.

One point worth making that I hadn't realized. Guilford has gone 2-1 in 3 point games this season. They were edged by the Generals and just barely nipped two of the worst teams they faced in conference, Bridgewater and Catholic. Interesting how much of this season has hung by a thread for a team that I thought would really dominate the ODAC. 9-1 is a ton to be proud of, but they were as close to being 10-0 as they were 7-3 with two hideous losses.

If Guilford does win this weekend, Coach R will have gone 2-8, 5-5, 6-4, 8-2, 9-1. Only one way to keep it going next year. Impressive.

I think that is great improvement, just have to toughen up that non conference schedule. It may be a little touch considering the distances that need to be travel and with the Old ACFC, MAC, and CC teams only having 1 non conference schedule, its the USA South or head to the South or Midwest for games.

Given Guilford's restraints, I doubt they will change up their OOC too much.
It's a budget issue, really.  Only game I see any chance of a change is Averett, but usually SVU or Ferrum.  GCQ seems to be locked into Greensboro and Methodist ... both intrastate schools and we have played them every year since they started football ... late 80's for MU (too busy to look up) and 1997 for GCP.

I really don't care who a team plays. But why it is so much more expensive to play someone other than who you guys play?  Quite frankly it's an overnight to Methodist. An overnight is an overnight. I doubt hotels in Fayetteville are that much less expensive other places. I'm sure transportation is a little more but what we talking? A few bucks?   Why not call it what it is - a convenience issue.  One less thing for your AD to worry about.  I understand costs but we're not talking about loading an airplane.

All three schools are a day trip ... no hotels.

GC is cheap. HSC spends virtually ever away game in a hotel.  They are spending tomorrow night in a hotel for RMC only 1 hour away.

Like I've said I have no issue with who plays who.  I think a Greensboro is important. Averett and Methodist not so much. Brevard will be another local option in the next year or so. I gave no idea as to HSC has scheduled next year. It won't be much better than what GC's was this year. As I understand we lose Wabash and CNU.

I don't think we lose CNU until 2017. That should be a game that is played every year in fact I wish the odac would change its bylaws to allow public insitutions and make CNU a member, or try to. CNU would be a good fit, at least in my opinion.
With CUA leaving, scheduling 4 ooc games is going to be a problem and might lead to a 9 game schedule for some odac teams.

I may have a little more knowledge of the Athletics budget at GC than you do.  I think your use of the word "cheap" is overly harsh.  I'm happy for HSC and support what they do.  Guilford and its administrators are making fiscally sound decisions that are in line with what they need to do.  I, too, would love for the football OOC schedule to be more robust.

Cheap, frugal, fiscally sound. It really doesn't matter. I'm surprised they don't spend the night for a game over 100 miles away.

TFA2 good to hear. I like the CNU game.

Getting to Hasa's point about travel budgets, that is precisely the reason HSC football does so much fund raising, to allow for many things that are not in the budget, travel being only one of those things.

I'm not 100% sure if they still do it, but W&L rarely stayed overnight when I was there. Sewanee they do, maybe Catholic. Also not sure about the night games. But if it was less than 3 hours it is a day trip. I remember loading onto the bus in the early mornings as a student athletic trainer and then getting a lift to the game as a student reporter as long as their was space on the buses.

As I said earlier this year, those early morning load ups are part of the home field advantage we generally see in the ODAC. This year with a clear top 4/bottom 4 it's been negated.

There's a difference between being a cheap and making fiscally responsible decisions based on budgets. What financially works for one school or one team won't work at others. Does it make H-SC football cheap because they took buses down to Alabama a few years ago while lacrosse took a commercial plane to Dallas? No, of course not.

Wabash and HSC only fund men's sports.  Many DIII schools, including Guilford, support an equal number of sports for both male and female athletes (currently 10 each). To their credit, and I commend them for this, the HSC alumni are incredibly generous and supportive of their alma mater.  I'm glad HSC plays a robust OOC schedule with opportunities for overnight travel ... I hope all ODAC schools can "up their game" in a similar fashion.

Went to The Game today. Only "analysis" I can muster- the Tiger QB was the best player for RMC. Rough day for the kid. Great defensive game for both teams. Officials were a little "meh".

RMC wanted it.

RMC wanted it.

That has been the story of The Game recently. Underpowered RMC wanting it more.

By the way, RMC has a beautiful venue. Haven't been there in probably 9 years. Awesome renovations.

Congratulations to W&L for their 10-0 season.  What an accomplishment.  I honestly didn't see that coming when everyone teed up on September 5th!  I hope the Generals make a deep run and carry the ODAC banner proudly.

Congratulations to Guilford for their first ever 9 win overall (since 1892), 6 win ODAC season (since 1991).  The Quakers had a great fall ...  but it will be a bittersweet feeling for the coaches, players and fans considering how things went in the W&L game if we don't get another game.  Hopefully, the Selection Committee will see fit to give a fine Quaker team a playoff spot.

Congratulations to the Yellow Jackets for finishing strong and winning The Game.  How do you do it?  lol  HSC impressed me last week, so you must have brought your A game!

Kudos to a very good E&H squad today ... super tough on both sides of the ball.  Great crowd today ... the Wasp faithful travel well.
