I have to eat crow.  :-[  I have been unpleasant to GC's WR Barnett. I held a grudge from the GC-Carson Newman game a couple of years back. He appeared to drop a couple of TD's against Carson Newman one when it was 0-0 and one when it was 7-0. GC was in their red zone 3 times in the first QTR in that game. He was freshman playing against a D2 playoff team and I TAKE IT BACK. He is the MAN.

Vogelbach and Barnett stay healthy I guess they are going to be a force. Voglebach being a Redshirt FR.  Yikes

Just a quick question, but does anyone know why Bublavi didn't play last year? I heard something about several players being thrown off the team, but wasn't sure if that rumor was true? I do know that he was supposed to be a senior last year, so does anyone know the real story?

Hey Forma....the guys/gals here have an unwritten rule...we never talk about issues of a personal nature, such as a player mysteriously missing a year on the team, or books taken from the bookstore, or seconds added to a game clock, or a bow tie being crooked...nah, no personal stuff here !

Bublavi's year off was no mystery.  See the attached article from the CUA newspaper last year:

Anybody know what Marcus Washington's totals are looking like as his career winds down?

Marcus Washington has played in 40 games, rushing 347 times for 2272 yards (6.5 yards per rush).  Washington also has 447 receiving yards on 32 receptions (14.0 yards per catch).  He has 28 rushing touchdowns, 6 receiving touchdowns, 5 passing touchdowns, and 4 kickoff return touchdowns, for a total of 43 touchdowns.

Washington's 232 points ranks him 6th all-time in the ODAC, second in Bridgewater history (with QB Jason Lutz '02 ahead of him with 246).  Washington is only nine touchdowns away from breaking the ODAC record for scoring (H-SC RB CW Clemmons '04 has 282).  Nine TDs is a lot, but doable.

More impressively is his kickoff returning.  In his career, Washington has 39 kickoff returns for 1145 yards (and as stated above, four TDs).  That's an average of 29.4 yards a KOR.  The ODAC record for career KOR average is 26.2 set by Cary Perkins (E&H) back in '89-'92.  Unfortunately, most record books require 1.0 or 1.2 kickoff returns a game to be considered for season or career records.  Washington only has 39 KORs in 40 games.  He didn't return at all his freshman year, and once he started getting pretty nasty numbers his junior year, teams have kicked away from him.

I dunno but I'm sure Kid is working on it. I do know that the career numbers won't stack up to Bublavi's for 2 reasons though:

  • 1) Freshman don't play at BC, although Marcus did get some touches but Langley came in more ready for college ball at that point. Marcus put on 30lbs of muscle since arriving at BC.
  • 2) Marcus didn't play the last half of last year due to an ankle sprain at Guilford.
I'm sure Kid would add, splitting carries with Young but that would further cloud the waters.

Yes ... Winston Young (currently a junior) is 8th all-time in scoring at BC (25 TDs for 150 points) and Jamie Langley (currently a senior) is 10th all-time in rushing yards (1420).

Not to mention Young went from 14th to 11th all-time at BC in rushing this past weekend with his 125 yards (giving him 1377 for his career).

I look at BC's carreer rushing record stats and wish you guys had a chance to see Chris Sizemore play.  Those stats are real good considering the era that he played in and a few missed games due to a ridiculous suspension.

CBE

For those who may not have seen,  Nick Bublavi got some national pub in today's USA Today in the Division III section on page 13C.  It mentioned the St John's win over Concordia-Moorhead after being held to -17 yds rushing.  The D3 news ends with "Nick Bublavi of Catholic (Washington, D.C.) set a school record for receiving yards with 386 on 12 catches in a 41-34 win against LaSalle."

I know somebody knows so I request some info.

D3 school visits by the athletes have to be fully funded by the player (minus a lunch, a shoe, or something) Correct? Incorrect?

correct, maybe minus lunch, but they may have to pay for that too... can't recall

I believe as far as visits go, there is a 48 hr window from when the recruit arrives on campus until he has to leave that all meals are covered at campus locations, but not to exceed 3 per day, and of course lodging is taken care of.  I think the parent's meals are covered as well. I'm unclear on transportation costs, but for some reason I think it may be legal to cover those too during official visits.

Kid,
You may want to add a yrds per rush, pass, return, etc to each category of your table. I think that will open eyes and allow for an apples to apples compairson in each player's strong suit. ;)

those are scholarship official visits, and transportation is covered for the student athlete and i believe one parent. d3 visits usually are a early saturday morning to mid-afternoon thing, and i'm not positive that a lunch is included. transportation is not, and if a student athlete does stay overnight they usually stay in the dorm w/ a current player. course i could be making this up; i never hosted a player at bridgewater, only ate w/ them on a saturday morning

Outsider,
I got those guidelines out of the d3 regulations online, but I'm not exactly sure of the rules, although I do remember that when I came through I stayed just under the 48 hr rule, stayed in the dorms one out of two nights, and ate in the dining hall for as many of the regulated meals that I wanted (ended up eating with other friends most of the time though). Some of the rules may have changed though.

Rugby Guy

Hey Kid,

Time to pull up the passing stats for W&L's opponents.  Muchacho mentioned the two 'best' passing defenses in the ODAC.  Is W&L's passing D really that good, or are the teams they're plaing crappy or run heavy?  I don't think you can count RMC...the have been getting the crap kicked out of them and their opponents probably don't have to throw very much.  Shenandoah only threw it 7 times and Chowan's not even a good passing team.  That will skew the stats down.

In briefly looking at W&L's games, it looks like at least a couple of their opponents had better passing games against the Generals than they are averaging otherwise.
