"...a win at home over Bridgewater..." should have been "...an upset win at home over Bridgewater..."

BC has won 31-straight conference games since Sept. 30, 2000.  The Generals are 15-17 over that period.

Where's the R-E-S-P-E-C-T?!  :D

If the Eagles beat the Wasps this weekend, W&L could very well end Bridgewater's streak in nine days.  I was prepared for the streak-ending game against H-SC ... I'll have myself ready again in Lexington.  ::)

[...] Look at the sideline at the game next week and look at W and L's number two's and three's. They have no business being on the same field with Bridgewater's athletes [...]

I have to give it to the W&L coaching staff for going 5-1 with only 67 players on the roster.  And if what you say is true about some of their 2s and 3s, then that's even more impressive.

Umm, I wouldn't call Miriello and O'Neal superior to Clark and Colbert.

I think it will be hard pressed to find 2 coaches as good or better then Clark and Colbert. Their resume's speak for themselves. I also feel that is a great recruiting tool. If you can't play for VA Tech why not play for there ex-defensive coordinator. As most of us have seen over the years, Colbert's play-calling is second to none. If you need eveidence just look at the "sky-play".

forma i was w/ you until you said superior coaching. find me a more qualified staff in the odac, if not the nation (if you don't know, look it up on the bridgewater.edu homepage under coaching staff). i was basically saying in my post that might be a spin i would put on the recruits minds, or one way it could be perceived. but yeah bridgewater's got some athletes that obviously are at the same level or (mostly) better, especially lower on the depth chart...
kid, that was exactly my point... had they put in the word "upset" it wouldn't sound so ...everyday-ish.

bmore, we ran sky play last night in our intramural game on a 2pt. conversion... didn't work; QB didn't quite know what to do w/ it...

FYI: parent/teacher conferences SUCK! It's a good thing I've got some VT football to go home to tonight!  ;)

So sad that I'll be missing out on Stone Station and BC football this weekend! But you can bet I'll be listening and excitedly waiting for Kid to call in need of updates!

GO EEEEEEEEEAGLES!

Clark was "let go" as a coach for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  So "playing" for a for former Hokie coach is a big stretch.  Yes he is an outstanding coach who has found his place in the world.

If Clark used to coach defense for the Hokies for a couple years how is it a stretch to say he is a former d-coordinator for them?   http://www.bridgewater.edu/Sports/Football/coaches/mclark.html .

d3worker,
Being "let  go" is a nice term to use, however, if you actually knew Mike Clark and the entire story you would understand that after being with Frank Beamer for many, many seasons Frank (not just at VT.. did you know that? I bet not)  was forced to turn over his ENTIRE crew to save his own job.  Sometimes these tough decisions are made to save ones own A__, I know they're done within the company I work for so to make it sound like Clark was fired is not quite right.  As a recruit I was more impressed by Clark as an 0-10 coach than I EVER was by the other coaching staffs around the ODAC.. in fact  RMC was one of the worst.  Let's not throw stones here,  the players all know how much trash the RMC coaching staff has said about Bridgewater, it's not a secret on how ugly they get with recruiting.  ::)

If anyone has any doubts about the quality of staff at BC lets just look at Coach Colberts profile:

"A 1971 graduate of the University of Maryland, Colbert began his coaching career at Gallaudet University, where he was the youngest college head football coach in the nation in 1971. He spent two seasons at Gallaudet before becoming the defensive backs coach at Colgate University from 1972-1975. He was also the Colgate baseball coach for three seasons. Colbert has also been a defensive coordinator at Ohio Wesleyan (1980-1982), an offensive assistant at Cornell University (1983-1989), Dartmouth College (1990) and the University of Massachusetts (1996, 1997). He was promoted to offensive coordinator following the second game of the 1997 season. Cornell was the Ivy League champion in 1988 and Dartmouth was champion in 1990. He was a defensive staff assistant with the Washington Redskins in 1976. From 1977 – 1979 he was an administrative assistant with the Baltimore Colts in addition to coaching the offensive backs. Colbert was part of the AFC Pro Bowl staff following the 1977 season."

Now how many RMC or W&L  ASSISTANT Coaches have that type of resume?

Outsider14

and, more recently:
"The Eagles' offense has averaged 444 yards and 39 points a game in the last five seasons, helping the Eagles qualify for the NCAA Division III national playoffs for five consecutive years. The national playoffs in 2004 represented Colbert's seventh trip to the NCAA tournament as an offensive coordinator. He received an AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award for Distinguished Service in 2002.

Colbert came to the Shenandoah Valley in 1991 as the offensive coordinator at James Madison University. The Dukes participated in the NCAA 1-AA playoffs in 1991 and 1994. The JMU offense established the top season records in points scored and yards gained during Colbert's tenure as offensive coordinator."

w&l's "superior coaching"...  8)

can't forget to mention the younger coaches on the staff who are definitely underrated but not underappreciated... you know i'll always rush to back up the bridgewater coaching staff
of course, it all comes back to the players. great players make great coaches is a famous saying in the business, but you know that's a two-way street.
time to focus on saturdays games; go iggles

You meant;

"Now how many Division III HEAD coaches have that type of resume?"

Why do you think I made Colbert's head so big?  He's the brains behind the operation.

So if Colbert is the Brain.. who is Pinky of the ODAC?  Marty?  :D

Okay, let's see ... there are 13 students at Catholic with the last name Price.

Which one are you? :)

It has to be one of the girls on the list, especially if it's a CUA football player.

Outsider,
I read the link, and the article is written to the point that W and L must win two of the next three games to make the playoffs, one of which must be Bridgewater. To make the playoffs they must beat Bridgewater, meaning that yes they are a stepping stone to the playoffs. I'd call that fact more than any sort of bias.
As far your recruiting take, I see it quite differently. I don't think that the other teams statistical leaders are any more selfish, but rather the other ODAC teams don't have as many playmakers, but have to focus more on several go-to-guys. To say your own guys "aren't quite as good" is somewhat unexpected, and basically untrue. Raw talent wise, I think if you look on paper, the showdown in two weeks really shouldn't even be a contest. Rather it is the lack of discipline that you described (76 yds/game) that even makes the ODAC somewhat close every year. Academic standards make recruting at W and L incredibly hard. Last year several guys that were high up on the prospect list didn't get in with over 1300's and 3.5 GPA's, so I wouldn't say that the other schools have better, yet more selfish players. Look at the sideline at the game next week and look at W and L's number two's and three's. They have no business being on the same field with Bridgewater's athletes, but superior coaching, discipline, preparation and drive are what give this year's team a realistic chance.

I'll agree that W&L has excellent coaching but I wouldn't go so far to call it "superior" to Bridgewater.

It's not a stretch at all since he did coach there, it's a fact.
