I did not purchase for the first time in years because you seldom have interesting articles about ODAC teams. I'll buy it today if you try to justify your ranking.

Glad to justify something to a subscriber. Someone who hasn't read it doesn't really have standing to demand justification, though.
I'm not confident that your two to three paragraph analysis of each ODAC team would provide the answer.  I'm am very confident that I know a great deal more than you about HSC football.  So no thanks.

No doubt you know more about Hampden-Sydney -- we have never claimed to be experts on each of the 249 teams, nor could we be. But a ranking requires understanding a little bit about all teams, not just one. And we certainly have you beat on the 249 as a whole..

By the way, I see that HSC's Kickoff ranking is about 20 spots higher than where they finished in last year's Massey Ratings. We're actually giving HSC a bit of a bump off last year.

Never said you or anyone was an expert on all teams. But just disagreed with where you ranked HSC in ODAC. These boards would dry up of participants if there were never any opposing views. At least I  did not repeat my mistake of calling the pick "horrible".

or Guilford so high. GC went 0-6 in conference last year but are projected at 4-2 this year. They have 4 of 6 odac games at home so that might be possible, but all said, if they finish 4-2 that is one hell of a turn around. Let's get the season started and we'll see. HSC scrimmages Greensboro tomorrow. If HSC can't control the line of scrimmage vs. those guys, could be another long year. Fingers crossed.
I'm somewhat surprised to see Guilford at #86 also.  Perhaps d3football knows, as Quaker fans know, that 2016 was a bit of an aberration after Bell got hurt.  Guilford actually went 1-6 in the ODAC in 2016, by trouncing Catholic, but did lose their last 6 in 2016, which was 0-6 against the current ODAC membership.

It was HSC who lost the leagues best RB (Koonce). Still found a way to win 3 conference games. If Guilford laid down last year because of 1 player getting hurt then shame on them. Guilford fans cried boo-hoo in 2015 when its only loss came after QB got hurt. It gets old to keep blaming losses on injuries. Every team has them. No one cares
Koonce had a fine season, but with all due respect, I think the person who was on track to be the best running back in the ODAC got hurt in the 4th game.  Just look at what numbers he had until then.   I didn't say the Quakers "laid down" because of one player.  In fact, I didn't say they laid down at all.  There were a number of factors why the team finished poorly.  Guilford was actually in the first 8 games last season ... but I admittedly did see a noticeable let down in the last two games.  Why are HSC fans so upset about being 123?  As Pat said, you're in the top half of all DIII teams.  It also gets old hearing some Tiger fans always thinking they belong at the top ... sometimes yes, sometimes no.  HSC is a fine academic school ... you can be proud of that every season.  Ease up a bit.  :)

Regardless as to which was best. Koonce was as valuable to HSCas Bell was to Guilford.

HSC fans think they belong on top because they typically are right there in November.  GC will have to beat HSC more often than once every 18 years to change that. Having GC ranked 37 teams higher than HSC is wrong- not because of my biases and not just because HSC beat Guilford last year.  It's because HSC returns significantly more of their two deep than GC.  Both have their coaching staffs back. There's nothing that's happened in the off season to justify a 1-6 team that lost more of their 2 deep than any team other than RMC to be ranked that far ahead of a 3-4 HSC.

I never complained about Pat ranking HSC 123. I only complained and still do that ranking them last in ODAC is a mistake.

HSC is trouncing greensboro today in Richmond.

How d3football came up with their rankings is a mystery. GC 86 and 3rd best in ODAC while they rank HSC 123 and last.

Key words - AND LAST!  Is no one to ever disagree with you?  Read into it what you want.  You could have ranked them 6th and if they were 6th behind 5 ODAC schools I would have disagreed. .

People who actually read Kickoff see the projected ties in the standings and how close the teams are together. People who don't buy and don't read and make assumptions from someone else's copy and paste are liable to be not as well informed.

So be it. But it is a way to support the resource which you use to bash us with. And again, you're bashing something you didn't buy and haven't read, so that doesn't carry much weight around here.

Thanks to the loyal users of D3boards who do subscribe to Kickoff.

Your so pompous. I've bought kickoff for eight years. You bashing potential subscribers does not help your bottom line. I buried my father last week buying kickoff was the last thing on my mind.

I don't see disagreeing as bashing I guess you do.

Done.  GC won in 1999 and 2015 in the 1999-2016 timespan.  That's two out of 18.  :)  All kidding aside, I've felt snake bitten at times versus HSC.  Hopefully, the future will be better for the Quakers and I look forward to an eventual ODAC title.

My condolences for your loss as well.  I've been there.

I can say I've bought and read Kickoff and I still don't think HSC will finish last. Though as most of the blurbs indicate, the whole damn conference could go 3-3 against each other this year and not too many would be surprised. The difference between team 6 and team 1 just isn't much, and that makes putting them in order a fool's game. Pat and crew offer to be those fools every year and, while I don't always agree, I appreciate the effort they put in. The season will tell and it's fun to argue about now, but it's almost time for the rubber to meet the road. I'm hoping the ODAC does well OOC and when the silly season ends we can settle in for some good, competitive games... that W&L win!

HSC played very well against Greensboro in the Rally in Richmond yesterday. A few highlights: Cobb threw 12/13 0 picks and 3 TDs. Defense played very well. Included a few jarring hits from NC State transfer Brenden Weinberg from his outside LBer position.  It was an excellent tune up for the season opener.
