A good defensive stand and another mistake free drive and W&L makes it 26-16 by missing the XP. Midway through the 4th. JHU has thrown the ball 45 times for 300 yards so far, but rushed for only 54 on 24 tries. With the clocking ticking down, those passing numbers will grow. W&L will have to find a way to slow them down at least once as the Blue Jays start from the 38.

And in less than 3 minutes JHU cuts the lead to 26-23 with 5:35 to play. JHU's passing offense is something to see. I can't get over how big the receivers are. All of them. And the sophomore qb has a gun. When neither offense hurts itself with penalties or turnovers, the defenses just can't keep up.

With 3:30 to go, JHU gets the ball as W&L goes 3 and out at a very bad time. They punted the ball away on 4th and 2 at their own 30 or so. Not going for those 2 yards could be deadly. The Generals averaged way more than 2 per rush. And making JHU go the length of the field could eat up the time and not give W&L a chance to respond if this goes badly.

I think, perhaps, that was a too conservative coaching strategy as opposed to JHU's coach with the brilliant but risky squib call. Sometimes you have to trust your boys to win it for you. We will see.

With 1:30 to go, 4th and 2 for BlueJays on W&L's 39 and JHU converts. W&L with a big sack with 1:14 to go, ball on WLU 40. 2nd and 17. This is a heck of a game. JHU's kicker has already hit a 44 yarder.

You just had to say something about the kicker... ::)

4th and 2 from WLU 25. Officials F up and move chains, causing an official timeout that helps JHU get the field goal team in for a 42 yard attempt that JHU converts with 22 seconds to go. 26-26. Unbelievable. JHU converted one fourth down, picks up 15 on a 3rd and 17 to get them within field goal range.

This has been an incredible game for week 1. Can't believe the JHU receiver pulled down the catch before the field goal. Ripped it right out of the General DB's hands.

I'm generally not a fan of college games on Friday nights, but thank God I didn't go to Maryville High's game. Blowout and running clock vs Week 1 OT game...not a hard choice in hindsight. Let's go W&L!

W&L settles for a FG on first possession of OT. JHU goes over the top and beats them. I'm very unhappy with some of our coaching decisions. Not happy we didn't go for the 4th down at the end of the game. Not happy with the play calling in OT. Not happy we didn't go for it in OT. Just really unhappy.

A few too many mistakes for the Generals. The two turnovers, giving up a couple 3rd and very longs, the squib kick, and the coach's decisions. It's easy to be an armchair coach, but I just don't understand why we went to conservative.

They are considered a top team in the South. Go for it. If you lose being aggressive, you tried. Losing because you didn't want to make the gutsy calls? Ouch. I love Coach Abell, but I think he got too conservative at the wrong moments tonight.

A great first outing for W&L. Hopefully they will take the positives and not let the fact that they lost a heartbreaker set the tone for the season. I saw a lot out of this team. The offense should be devastating and I think the D line is going to cause problems for ODAC teams. We don't generally see Olines like JHU's, or receivers like that.

If W&L grows from this game and moves forward positively, they are going to be a darn good team.

Congrats to the BlueJays. They made the plays when they needed them, didn't turn the ball over, and man can they sling it around. A very dangerous team that earned a hard fought and very entertaining road victory.

Eyes closed, hopes open. The definition of fandom. We all go that route sometimes.

That's just it. As a fan why not blindly have confidence in your team until they show you otherwise?  This is a new year.  I think WL can beat JHU too....

Great game by W&L just came up alittle bit short in the end.  The Generals are gonna be tough this year!

I turned the game off after not going for the 4th down.  The secondary was really tired and were getting picked apart.   It wasn't a great choice but we wouldn't be in that game without Coach A's work over the his tenure.  The offense is unique to college football and is the great equalizer.

Generals lost because they didn't have depth in the secondary...  Fun watching Hopkins have to go max protect and have quick throws to avoid the pressure the generals could bring.

I once again am frustrated over DIII officiating.  Didn't think Brand fumbled... did think Hopkins fumbled after the onsides... was definitely an illegal forward pass by Generals!  Different game if any of those calls go the other way, seemed that more of the big calls went the way of JHU.  The DIII officials struggle to be in the right place and not be overwhelmed by the moments.  It is part of DIII football but I don't like it.

Generals looked about like I thought they would.  In another world Sgro and Brand would have been starting last year (as would the punter).  Disappointed that Herndon and Gold aren't back.  D-line is improved.  If we could only build some more depth...

Do the Generals move forward or rest on an almost result? I think the Generals can still play much better than last night...

No one was arguing (outside of Ohio) that Michigan was not top 5 until they lost to ASU. No one is arguing UWP is not deserving of their position at 18. My point is after losing nearly all of their offense- Maybe they're not 18. Maybe they're number 1. Maybe their number 80. The season will tell the tell.

Looked more like number 80 today than number 1. A come from behind victory against George Fox does nothing to dampen my hopes.

Guilford played well on the road.  Bent, but did not break.  No turnovers.  Close stats 561 yards GC, 548 HC.  97 yard TD pass and a goal line stand for the Quakers.  GC punter was better today. HC may be slightly overrated and GC slightly underrated.  At any rate, great time tailgating with jknezek and Hawks88.  Very hospitable Huntingdon fans.  Thank you.  Go Quakers!

Hopkins had 58 yards on the ground;  was this by design or did W&L shut down their run game?
