What a whooping Averett is putting on HSC. Another ODAC team that is going to need to improve in a hurry if they are going to have an impact this year. Will be interesting to get a read on RMC's defense next week. Averett is running all over HSC.

You got that right. HSC score could have been much worse. AU fumbled on the one, had an interception and a run called back for holding. AU kicker also missed 2 extra points and a less than 30 yard FG.

I used your full name since I don't really know you.
I join hasanova in saying sorry about your son's injury. Always hate to see any player on any team get injured, especially one requiring surgery and a missed season. Hope all goes well for him.
These big o-linemen bounce back better than we little guys. Best to you both! ☠🏈

Well... not really a weekend the ODAC covered itself in glory, but not a mess either. The bad news was bad. W&L struggled against a team that really wasn't very good. RMC got blown out in the end by a team that is most likely really good. H-SC got hammered by a team that I expect will be decent. Guilford was losing, though working toward a comeback, when the thunder gods stepped in.

The good news, however, was pretty good. Bridgewater dominated a lower tier CC team. Shenandoah did what was expected against a bottom tier USASAC team and, surprising the crap out of me, E&H put their foot on new conference member Ferrum's neck. Looks like Ferrum's defense maybe graduated a bit too much to keep their momentum from last season as they enter the ODAC.

In the end, when faced with good teams (JHU, Averett and Huntingdon) the ODAC faltered. When faced with bad teams (Dickinson, Methodist, and Gettysburg) the ODAC won.

Next weekend brings some interesting games. RMC hosting Averett has my attention. RMC got pasted on pass coverage. Averett ran all over H-SC. RMC typically has a stout run defense, I don't think Averett looked great throwing. Can Averett win 2 in a row against what was expected to be the top tier of the ODAC?

Stevenson visiting Bridgewater has become more interesting. Bridgewater looked good, though the competition wasn't the best. Stevenson got pasted by a very good Frostburg St, but is expected to be fighting for the MAC crown.

CNU pasted future ODAC associate SVA this weekend, and they travel to a very vulnerable looking H-SC. The Captains would love a 2-0 start before venturing into a brutal NJAC schedule, H-SC will not want to be staring at 0-2.

W&L travels to Sewanee. Not really a game you think will bother the Generals, but it is a rivalry and Sewanee will be riding high coming off their pasting of Kenyon while W&L needs to spend this week looking into the suddenly anemic offense.

Shenandoah has a suddenly more interesting game. N.C. Wes knocked off Thomas More, who looks to be in for a very long season. But that's still an interesting win and the Battling Bishops will be carrying some momentum up to Northern Va.

Ferrum, and Guilford should pick up wins, facing Apprentice and Methodist respectively, though the Builders did once again take Greensboro behind the woodshed.

W&L #39 in D3 football poll.

Tied for the 39th-most votes, perhaps, but only the first 25 are ranked.

They need to show a lot more to keep those 3 pts...

Averett is really good.  They are fast, well coached, and confident. This is a much better HSC than the one that got beat there in 16 and AU wore HSC out. The only shame in losing to AU is how badly HSC lost.  I was excited to see a well balanced HSC offense for the first time since since Koonce ran the ball in 2015 That was not close to being the case today. HSC had - 4 rushing in the first half on 20 carries. HSC did rush for 48 yards in the second half BUT 35 of those came on last drive against 2nd team AU defense. They finished game with 44 yards on 26 carries.

Defensively HSC only gave up 317 yards and a KO Return... in the first half!  JK you say AU did not look great throwing but the kid went for 165 and a TD. They RPOed HSC to death. He made many great reads. If they had been in a situation where had to throw it may have been different but AU ran for 306!

As far as any ODAC team receiving vote in the Top 25 - those who voted for WL should have their credentials revoked.

I think what was most disappointing was the number of players going down today for HSC. I know it was hot. But AU built the home side stadium facing the sun. HSC had the sun at their backs not in their face like AU. I saw 2 or 3 HSC players puking, 2 or 3 out of game with towels and ice covering their heads and several times HSC players laying on the field from cramping up. I was worried that the HSC trainers might have to be treated for heat with all the running they had to do.

There were bright spots QB play was very good as was Morgan at WR.

Now on to CNU!

I heard from some old teammates over the weekend; the word from them is the HSC defense is the worse they have ever seen. Can't tackle and can't control the LOS. According to them the OL play is not very good at all. QB getting way to much pressure and the run blocking is/was horrible at best. Cannot win many football games rushing for only 44 yards. They also said HSC was simply pushed around by a much bigger/faster AU team. AU much more aggressive, bullied HSC at the point of attack and really made HSC look like a really bad team.

Lastly they all said AU is really, really good. Huge physically and speed not seen often at the D3 level.

Let's put this one behind us and come out and play solid football vs. CNU. Time to MAN UP. HSC cannot be MANHANDLED by another team. Must play tough, smart football and control the LOS on both sides of the ball. Otherwise of QB will continue to be pressured and HSC will continue to have no rushing offense.
Let's get it done TIGERS.

I believe the Bishops are make similar trips twice in a row as they play at Bridgewater in week #3.  NCW showed up in week #1, but that offense of SU is a handful.  The Hornets even showed a little ground game in the first week, something they really have not had.  Should be a interesting matchup, but I think Bauserman and company are too much for the Bishops

Ferrum obviously did not have the conference start they wanted but Mann had a heck of a ball game.  I believe it was like 258yds.  They will be traveling to AU in week #3, and must right the ship this week against the Builders  (small pun)

It was an interesting week one, and it will be a wild ride  until 11/10.

Guilford entertains Methodist Saturday at 7 pm.  Even though the Quakers enter the game officially at 0-0, the team got 3 quarters plus of game experience versus a quality team.  The offense looked capable, but the defense allowed a lot of big plays.

I wasn't sure who would start at QB for the Quakers, but it was Alex Manley, a sophomore transfer from E&H.  Alex is a graduate of nearby West Stokes (NC) High School, so about a 50 mile trip for family and friends to watch the Quakers.  De'Eric Bell was his usual explosive self in both the offense and return teams ... it was a shame to see his school-tying 4 TD performance wiped out.  His all-purpose yards had to be approaching 350-400 when the game was declared a No Contest.

Those numbers for Mr. Bell are unbelievable, hard to imagine. Hope he can stay healthy this year.

Yeah, they are tfa2.  I encourage all ODAC fans to watch this special player in his last season.  One of the TDs wiped out vs HC was a punt return.  He will set school records in many categories this year.  Some records he had just set in the Huntingdon game, but he will now have to restart.  We all remember 2016, so fingers crossed for a healthy and productive year.

Manley was a really bright and talented quarterback at E&H and would no doubt have been a starter if saxton didn't have two years under his belt. Its good to see him getting a chance to shine especially closer to home. His older brother Zach was a hell of a linebacker for the wasps as well.

HSC fans, what's going on with my Tigers?  Kudos to Coach Adams and his AU Cougars.  There was a day not too long ago when AU may of been at or near the worst collegiate program in the state.  Since Coach Adams arrival they continue to bring in sleeping giant type talent and have the ability to keep building.  Sorry I missed the game on Sunday, had coaches meetings and couldn't attend but I was following Cannon's broadcast. I hope the Tigers right the ship fairly quickly, I long for the days of the late 00's and early 10's!
