"Not to be nit-picky but 24 of 36 is 66% and 31 of 38 is 82%. Both excellent numbers. I agree most would take those numbers and be exceptionally happy."

Please note that Macon said "per year." So, his numbers are correct. Your numbers were the percentage change over three years not per year.

I was looking at all classes, year over year.  So, 36 freshmen to 24 seniors would be about 87.5% retention per year for that class.  This coming fall, RMC has 31 Seniors starting as 38 freshmen, thus about 94% annual retention.  Regardless, I think most coaches and most programs would take those numbers any day.  As mentioned above, there are numerous factors in a successful program.  Being a novice mathematician, I was highlighting just one factor that may be correlative to winning programs.

NP, I think mathematically, we're saying the same thing, I'm converting those number to an annual retention, and you're looking at a three year retention.  Maybe a better mathematician out there can correct/confirm my conclusions.

Just saw The Guys' response, yes, what he said.

I misunderstood. I've never thought to quantify rentention this way. Certainly a selling point of the program. When my son started at HSC they brought in 45 freshmen and graduated 24. Not sure what the year over year percentage would be but for that class at least, a fairly high number. The challenging part is keeping kids the first two years when most aren't playing regularly.

Tiger Fan, speaking of rosters, just took a look at the 2019 HSC roster.  Only 15 freshmen??  That's extremely light by HSC standards where 35-40 freshmen are typical.  Likewise, RMC usually has about the same 35-40 freshmen.  I've never seen only 15 freshmen on an ODAC team, at lease not in the last 25-30 years.

Any transfers on that H-SC roster?

None, that I can gleam from the roster.

You'd have to think that the roster is not complete, then. Wow.

Here's another nugget, last year's HSC freshmen class numbered 55 players, but there are only 26 sophomores this year, meaning more than half of last years freshmen did not return.  That coupled with only 15 freshmen this year, what's going on in the woods of Prince Edward County?  (until games start, nothing much else to focus on :) )

Initially, I thought the same, but it seems to be complete.  But, maybe not.

H-SC has only two QBs on the posted roster. Both are Seniors. I don't think that the roster can be complete.

I don't know how many were recruited this year. My son went on recruiting trip to RMC and after hanging for a few hours in a dorm they took a trip to Sheetz at 1:00 in the morning. On his recruiting trip to HSC his sponsor took him to a bbq and to one of the frat houses where they had a band and the girls outnumbered the guys 2-1.  You've obviously never been to HSC during the off season! :)

Several of the guys that the H-SC Football account retweeted that said they committed to play at H-SC for this upcoming school year aren't on the roster. And of the ones not on the roster that list their college in their Twitter bio, all still say H-SC. And several have tweeted and/or retweeted posts that indicate that they did in fact report for preseason. Unless they all quit or got cut already ... don't know why they would post an incomplete roster like that.

I think it's early. I've never seen a roster from HSC until after picture day. Someone has to input all that info. Maybe 5 o'clock came early on Friday and it wasn't completed. Generally, Pat and his guys report number of incoming freshmen in kickoff. Based on Pat's reaction one can assume D3 has not spoken to HSC yet or Pat has not seen the actual number.
