Oh, and I ask please that no one posts anything on other threads or on the Daily Dose about Marcus being on there.  Again, me getting him on there is simply a Bridgewater-supported only deal.  If someone outside of Bridgewater votes for him, great.

Sorry, I had already posted about Marcus on the South playoff watch thread.

Even though I think in the minds of the coaches and SIDs (they still vote, right?) J.D. Ricca is the "best" QB in the conference, I think Tweardy, Lewis, Vogelbach, and Keith Ricca are all right up there.  Easy to argue for any of them.

Vogelbach will definitely duke it out with baby Ricca for Freshman of the Year.

I agree that Ricca the Elder will (as of today) get the nod as best QB over the others - his numbers and team record are better, but things could change in the last 3 weeks.  Now, even though Family/Team Ricca would probably like to see a clean sweep with Ricca the Younger at FOY, I think Vogelbach has to be given some SERIOUS consideration.  The Nov. 5 GC/CUA game in DC should be very interesting - I can't wait to look at the combined box score from that one!

I dont see why vogelbach shoudln't be taken into serious consideration.  One major point that should be considered is how he affects the team, and Josh has helped us turn from a 1-9 team whose only win was to an 0-10 team, into a team who is staring at a 5-5 season and possible a tie for 2nd in the conference

Thanks to all of those who cast your ballot for Brett Elliot today for the Heisman.  His total is now almost 900 votes in one day alone and puts him in 7th place of the 42 nominees.
All Division III football will benefit by the tremendous support being garnered by this nominee.

If you have not yet voted you can reach the site by going to www.voteforheisman.com

Thanks again to everyone who supports D3 football.

Hey Kid,

I sent an email to the sports people at the 2 local television stations, the harrisonburg newspaper, the charlottesville newspaper (hey, he graduated from Western Albermarle High), his old high school, several people in BC's media relations (although I'm sure you could have covered that) and the Veritas... letting them all know that Marcus was one of only 2 Division III football players up for the Heisman voting on the official site.

Yes, I'm all about D3 getting the recognition, and it's great that Elliot is moving up the list so fast.  I thought I'd at least give the local media the information in case they want to support Marcus any.

I've got to say, it's pretty awesome to see Brett Elliot GAINING on Reggie Bush in the online Heisman voting, and Marcus Washington closing in on Marcus Vick and ahead of Adrian Peterson.

Excellent!  I was hoping you'd use your media connections :)  Let me know (via e-mail or phone) if you hear back from any of them.  I'll work on getting out on e-mail on campus tomorrow (well, later today  :o).

Hopefully I get his bio up on the Heisman site tomorrow.

And then when someone at Wabash decides to nominate Russ Harbaugh, and someone at St. John's wants to pump up Damien Dumonceaux, and then when Delaware Valley fans write in Adam Knoblauch, and then Mary Hardin-Baylor fans get behind Justin Bryson? Really defeats the concept of Division III rallying behind someone and showing its market share that way.  :-\

I think it'd be great if they would...I'll explain in a bit.

Well, I'm still getting votes in for Elliot, as I'm guessing most of the 'd3 market share' that you reference is...or in other words, people that visit this site.

However, I doubt any person outside of this site and the hardcore D3 realms is going to care to hear about, or vote for a kid from a small school in Oregon.   If the local media picks up a story about a local kid, then there's the chance that more people will vote for a D3 player...thus increasing the total 'd3 market share'.

I think it'd be great if each school with a great d3 player got behind him.   I wouldn't mind seeing 6 or 7 of the top 10 with the school name "Division III".  It'd be a lot more votes for D3 players than D3 would otherwise get.  Those wouldn't be 'stolen' votes... they'd be votes that wouldn't have otherwise been cast.  Kid can't exactly email all of Bridgewater College and ask them to vote for a Linfield player, just like I wouldn't ask the local media to try to run that story.

mizzou_mafia

That being said, I think it's great that you and Ron and the others that helped out got this ball rolling.  Although he's not quite gaining on the leader, Elliot has crossed the 1000-vote mark and is gaining ground on some of the few others above him.

Until you water down and cheapen the process by doing so, leading them to change procedures in the future.

Someone got the entire Bethel team to vote for Elliott. I don't see votes for Phil Porta on there, so they must have been able to put Division III in front of their parochial interests.

If D-3 had a Heisman and if it had coverage to the point where the entire "D-3 world" knew and recognized the top players in the country beyond the stats then Marcus would be just as viable a candidate as Elliot for the award.  He's the Reggie Bush of D-3 and is statistically having a strikingly similar season to what Bush is having at USC.  If the BC offense was designed to allow him to lead the nation in rushing or whatever, he would.  He's one of the two most impressive offensive players I've seen in 12 years of watching and playing D-3 football (the other being Roy Hampton).

Pat, I don't thing Kid trying to recognize Marcus "bastardizes" anything.  Your site is awesome and I fully support and thank you for what you do for D-3 football and the time you obviously take to do it, but sometimes you get a little full of yourself in the statements you make.

Amen!  I wish you guys the best the last three weeks.  Go Quakers!

Any thoughts on Hampden-Sydney's chances for an NCAA bid if:

  • The Tigers win out, giving Johns Hopkins (which finishes 9-1 and is an NCAA participant as conference champion) their only loss of the season, and finishing with an 8-2 in-region record
  • The Eagles defeat the Generals, Yellow Jackets, and Cardinals to finish with a 6-0 conference record, 7-1 in-region record, 8-1 overall record and the Generals win their last two to finish 4-2 conference, 5-3 in-region, 7-3 overall

Who's to say they won't change the process if a single Division III person gets the most votes?  Or gets in the top 3.  They may consider that cheapening the process, as it'd certainly be Heisman votes going to a candidate that couldn't win.

If we truly are trying to put Division III first, and not just our own parochial interests, I think every vote for a Division III football player is a vote for Division III.

I didn't hear of the entire Bethel team voting for Elliot.  I did read that someone emailed them though.
