Kid,
I just don't think Marcus or Elliot are on the same level as Bush or Leinhart.. sure they've done great on OUR level, but I still see the Heisman as a DI award, despite it being given to the "best college football player".   It's more a kin to the best skill player (O and D)  in DI.   I dunno, I think the press is good for DIII to have a few players on the list but I don't think either of those players belong in the same room as the DI players.  Nothing against what they've done against other DIII teams, there are just 100's of players better than them in DI.   It's just my opinion and doesn't change my love for BC or its players.

Kinda on this subject of Heisman...kinda not.  But....with all this talk about Bush being the best player (or one of) in college football and Marcus being one of the most dangerous and best in DIII, most of the talk is about "this guy can score every time he touches the ball and his yardage per carry is high."  Stuff like that.  Now, i know both players are surrounded by other skill players that get the job done without much of a drop off....but wouldnt you think Carroll and Clark would maximize the touches each player gets in a game?  Why not give a player that has a chance to score everytime he touches the ball 30 touches in a game?  Is it the durability aspect?  Is it because if they did touch the ball 30 times a game they would be tired and wouldnt have the possibilty of scoring every time they touch it?  I know there is logic behind Marcus only getting 12-15 carries a game and same for Bush (if that) but I would like to see what they could do if they got the ball 30-35 times a game.

outsider,

the jermaines, devons, moores, are the guys im talking about. overall I don't think an entire team could compete but I always thought(really just a guess I have no basis) that the "stars" on some of the d3 teams would be able to play at the next level.

re Washington and Bush

I think its a good idea to spread the ball around.

1. Washington/Bush just being on the field makes every other guy on the team better. I like that kind of play calling. Sort of how Magic could have scored every play but had 15 assists every game instead. Gets the other guys involved and still makes the other team play honest.

2. Keep him fresh for the stretch run. If he's that much of a threat and dictatates to the defense all he really has to do is stand there. His body doesn't have to get beat up and he stands less of a chance of being lost to some freek injury. Late in the season the guy who's already 2x as explosive as every player on the field is also 2x as fresh. It's a win/win.

cuaplayer,
So you have a problem with the BC Fans stats comparison for the Heisman voting but not for the Player of the Year comparisons?    ???    To add a catch to your statements, I've been saying all along stats don't matter, I'm a BC fan, ex-player, and JD doubter (when it came to that debate), I for one wouldn't vote for Marcus for Heisman, I love the guy but I feel as Outsider does on this matter, it's trivial.  I'd rather see BC win the ODAC and a few playoff games.

Why can't you (like me and other BC fans) want to see BC win the ODAC, a few playoff games, and vote for Marcus?  lol ... I didn't know we have to pick one or the other.

But it's your prerogative (isn't that in some Salt and Pepper song?!) if you want to "stand" for something and simply not vote for Marcus because he's not the best player out of the 44 candidates.

Whatever tickles your tonsils.  Doing this "campaign" for Marcus (and Pat doing it for Elliott) sure does tickle ours!

I voted for Elliot just cuz thats what d3football.com was asking. If I had known Marcus was on the site I would given him my vote instead, at least I've seen him play.

I just found it strange to see any d3 player getting hyped. What I liked about playing d3 was the anonymity. Most of the reason I loved playing was that noone on my team or the teams we played against worried about any kind of recognition. The reward was getting better and competing.

D3 is sort of a seperate world where only true fans and kids who truely love the game pay attention/play. Heisman voting is for those people who can only watch nfl football or high level division 1 and appreciate it.

Heisman has got to be the most worthless award in sports. I put it one level below prom queen. They are both won more on popularity than anything but at least most of the time the prom queen is the prettiest girl. Heisman hasn't picked the best football player since Barry Sanders won. It's a pageant award. As a big time supporter of d3 football its the last award I want to see my sport connected to.

Nothing is worse than being a wanna be.

I was just looking at BC's stats and realized that our second leading reciever yardage wise is Blake Warring, who has only played in two games.  Any idea when he is going to be back?  This week?  Playoffs if we get there?  He is a big down field threat....i know he hurt his knee, but wasnt sure when he is expected back.  He really helps stretch the field.

Im bored and looking at stats...:)  I also found it interesting that the two middle linebackers on this year's defense have only combined for 13 solo tackles on the year and only 38 total tackles.  that cant be good.  When two people in the secondary are your two leading tacklers, that means either that the opponent never runs (which could really be the case) or that the offense is getting into the secondary way too often.  One more stat that i found interesting (i know im not up to par with Kid yet) is that BC has scored first in every game but one (Hampden-Sydney) and has scored at least two touchdowns before the other team has scored in every game but two (sydney and Hanover).  This really shows the ability BC has...its just about keeping up the pace all game long.  Look for BC to get up quick and by alot this weekend.

Marcus Washington better have a huge game against W&L, because the Generals will shut down the Eagles passing attack.  You heard it here first.  3 interceptions, by Snoddy, Rain and Turer.

Go GENERALS!

Jeremybozz

Vogelbach threw for 406 yards on the Generals. Centre ran for 260 on W&L. W&L did pick off JD for 2 INTS but he also threw for 273 yards.
W&L's passing game is very impressive and it should be a good game Saturday.

you'll notice that both bush's team and washington's team have been extremely successful while only getting them the ball however many times... coincidence? perhaps.

you've never been to a virginia tech game have you? or a steelers game, or redskins, or SEC... rivals.com voted lane stadium the toughest place to play for a reason. that place is absolutely electric on gameday. that statement will NEVER hold water to me. see my post earlier about the subject...

Hey narch,
I'd like to point out that you say were the bottom half of the conference, but we are in position to tie for 3rd or better if we win out.  i hate methodist wasnt about 2 weeks later in the season when our team began to mature and really play ball.

hasanova ... You raise an interesting question ....  In the scenario you propose, 2 of the 3 co-champs (Guilford and W&L) would be teams that have never been to the NCAAs.  I don't know how that "tie" between GC & W&L is broken, but I'm betting it's on the basis of a lottery procedure that occurred prior to the beginning of the season.  Does anyone else know the answer to this?

Why wouldn't a two-way tie be broken by the head-to-head result?

Pat's idea sounds good to me ... lol ... now, if that could only be the way it plays out!  GC boys do your part starting with RMC this weekend!!!

I think hes addressing the fact that if W&L beats BC and all end at 4-2 you'd have head to head at bc beating GC, who beat W&L,  who beat BC... bringing you to the second tie breaker... last time in the playoffs... this would leave W&L and GC (as both have never been)... would the tie breaker then go back to head to head? or is there another situation as there would technically be 3 co-champs? Hopefully I put that in a way we can all understand.

Outsider...no doubt both teams have been damn successful with their star players only touching the ball 15-20 times a game.  I was just wondering aloud whether or not the production and yards per carry would stay the same if they were to get 25-30 per game.   Would be neat to watch if they could stay healthy through it.  But, go with what works....and for BC that is balance.  Never know which one of the 25 or so gamebreakers will get the ball next. :)
