Wow.  BC-W&L, what a game!

Game ball definitely goes to the defense as a whole.  Deon Mays (3 INTs, 1 2-PT CONV RETURN) might have gotten the gaudy stats, but it was because of great pressure by the DL, great containment by the LBs, and great coverage by the CBs.  This game was the BC defense's coming out party.  Holding W&L to 1-of-5 in the red zone, 1-of-3 on 4th-and-1s, and 8-of-21 on 3rd downs.  Not to mention being on the field (like mizzou_mofia has mentioned) for 13+ more minutes than the BC offense, and playing in 20 more plays.  Shows how much our depth on the defensive side of the ball will help us.  I remember the W&L radio crew saying when W&L had a 4th-and-2 at the BC three-yard line: "Did BC just sub in an entirely new defensive line?  Wow, you won't see that much at the Division III level."  And that was one of the 4th downs we stopped.

I'm not worried about the offense.  They've proven themselves already this year - numerous times.  The Generals got excellent pressure by their DLs.  Lewis (4 rushes, -20 yards) and Washington (9 rushes, 33 yards) were contained all day.

I was really impressive with W&L's Walker Williams (DL), Stuart Sitterson (WR/RB/QB/KOR/PR), and Jack Martin (WR).  Williams made some huge plays, and always seemed to be where the ball was.  Sitterson is just scary fast and light on his feet.  I'm not surprised he lined up at the aforementioned positions.  And Martin, even though he didn't have a big stats day, he's going to be something special.

That's all I have for now, phew.  What a draining game!  OH, one more thing...

I had the pleasure of meeting GenerallyTim and Forma80 ... you two are class acts.  Especially since I met you all when it was 17-13 BC with 2 minutes left.

And don't worry Forma80 ... I won't tell the board what I saw you do after the game (with a bare foot)  :D

Congratulations to BC on another ODAC title.  I wish I could have seen that game too.  Kudos to W&L for making it a thriller.  This is what the ODAC needs!

Congratulations also to E&H for that first victory and to H-SC for their victory over the CC's Dickinson.

Good game at GC yesterday with the Yellowjackets.  I was in the stands and enjoyed it.  GC has a knack for making games closer than they ought to be, but make no mistake about it, RMC came to play.  Scoreless first quarter, but 2nd essentially decided the game - RMC turnovers in quick succession led to a 28-7 GC lead.

Abnrgr said it best regarding the 2-point conversion in the 4th quarter - "nobody but Guilford."  RMC was kicking a 35 yard extra point after the TD & celebration penalty, bobbled the snap and GC had the holder by the shirt and spun him around a couple of times before he throws a 2-point pass to the right side.  Unbelievable!  You can watch a 100 games and never see that UNLESS ... you go to GC games, then it's about once every other week!  lol

RMC's Ball and Shareef put on a show.  Ball was 31 for 58 with 404 yards, but the 3 interceptions all led to GC TD's.  Shareef caught 16 of those for 189 yards & a TD.  Very impressive.

By the end of 4 years, I predict GC's Vogelbach will set a lot of new ODAC records.  He was 26 of 42 for 334 yds with 1 INT and this was his fourth 5-TD game of the year.  After 8 games, he has 28 TD's (broke old GC record of 26) and he has the top 3 yardage passing days in GC history (380, 395 and 406).  He has set new GC records for total passing yards in a season (2527), completions (200) and attempts (342).  WR Chris Barnette has tied the 35 year old school record for receptions in a season (70) and will surely break that next week.    There is a long way to go, of course, but this projects to some record-setting numbers.

The final score may not indicate it, but the defense won yesterday's game.  The offense capitalized on the great field position they got off the 3 INT's and the fumble recovery.  And the coffin corner punt and sack for a safety in the last 2 minutes sealed it.

Go Quakers!  Good luck next week versus CUA.

For all those people on the Lynchburg, Danville, and Roanoke areas: WDRL out of Roanoke will broadcast yesterday's game between W&L and Bridgewater.  12:00 noon.  If anyone has TIVO or a VCR, you might be able to record it.

Well, based on what I see at the ODAC site, it's clear that the head-to-head tie-breaker not only determines who goes to the NCAAs, but also who is crowned the Conference Champion.  So Bridgewater's 5th straight conference championship is official today.  However, if the ODAC ends with a 3-way tie some year, with the head-to-head tie-breaker inconclusive because team A beats B and team B beats C and team C beats A, then we would have tri-champions, and "longest drought" would determine who goes to the NCAAs.

The scenario you describe (A beat B, B beat C and C beat A) is what happened in 1997.  Guilford, E&H and RMC all finished 4-1, 8-2 and were declared tri-champs.  Of course, back then, the ODAC did not get an automatic qualifier with only 6 teams.  I'm not sure if the ODAC had anyone go to the NCAA DIII playoffs, but maybe someone else knows.

Nobody else got an automatic qualifier in 1997 either. They didn't exist.

Lycoming, Trinity (Texas), Catholic and Western Maryland were the 1997 South region playoff teams. Nobody from the ODAC.

Hey New_Era- congrats on your great "moral victory" today.

It will be great conversation around the Thanksgiving dinner table (since you won't be in the playoffs).  LOL

Good "character win" today by the Eagles.  That's what we do....we win.  Period.

Miz - I knew I could get a great d0uchebag comment from you.

Two things must happen:

(1) BC must win their last two games vs. RMC & CUA

(2) CNU must beat Ferrum on Nov. 12

If (1) happens but not (2), then we will probably travel to Ferrum in the first round.

3 picks and a 2 point conversion for Deon Mays!!!  Great game....Big players step up in big games.  Great job by the D-Line and linebackers gettin to the QB to set up the INT's

I hope Deon Mays is named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week.

I agree with Kid on the BC home playoff game scenario. 8-1 overall is not as good as 9-1 though. We will see if BC can win the last 2 games. They are not automatic wins.

Ezoneking6-

The ODAC website says Catholic joined the conference on a football only basis in 1999.  It remains an Associate conference member.

I thought the only thing PatCo knew more than D3 Football lore was Catholic lore. Does this mean PatCo was wrong? Tell me it ain't so, PatCo !

D3-

It doesn't mean that Pat is wrong, it may simply mean that the ODAC did not get a bid.

The Catholic website references the 1997 team making the playoffs, and that only sixteen teams made the field...so that it may have been a purely at large deal.
