It would all depend on how the games develop.  While you don't want players hurt, you also have to win the games.  Seeding and momentum both depend on going out on th field and getting it done.  What you may see is players pulled from the game with a smaller lead.  Remember the other thing that a coach at this time of the year has to do is make his 52 man playoff roster.  I would think that the coaching staff may also try to evaluate who should be dressed for the playoffs and who should not if they get a lead.  I would say though that the first priority is to win the games.

Colbert will not put anything on film that he does not have to. But we still must win these games for seeding purposes.

BC fans who have read the "Playoff Projection" piece, don't get too discouraged.  I'd be shocked if we had to go to Texas to play. Going to Ferrum would seem to be the more logical match up.  And I think those on the commitee would see that as well.
Of course, if/when Ferrum gets beat by CNU, who knows what might happen. We may host Ferrum.

Someone has to go to Texas. There will be three Texas teams in the field, as it stands now, and there is no first-round bye to help that situation.

I'm not sure there's a lot of room elsewhere, but HSU could get shipped to some remote corner in another region where someone would have to fly to anyway.

I was just looking at the South Region Rankings put up on Oct 26.  I've been trying to figure out what exactly they were thinking in putting together their rankings.  Here's a thought:  Maybe they seeded the teams the way they wanted them to pair up.  In other words, the seedings were more of a pairing.

I know that the NCAA guidelines advise to keep conference teams from playing each other in the first round, if they can work it out in the geography.  But...

1. Trinity (Texas) 5-0 6-0
2. Ferrum 7-0 7-0
3. Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-1 5-1
4. Thiel 7-0 7-0
5. Bridgewater (Virginia) 4-1 5-1
6. Hardin-Simmons 5-1 6-1
7. Johns Hopkins 6-0 7-0
8. Salisbury 2-0 6-1

At that point I could have seen 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5...with the committee forgetting about the 'in-conference' thing.

The 6 seed from the north, John Carroll could have also filled HSU's spot in the above scenario, and HSU could fill any vacancy left in the West by an IIAC school falling out of the rankings.

religion_major, how many players does Bridgewater have?  I'm just curious how many they have to pare to make a 52 man playoff roster.  Also, I assume this applies whether you're playing at home or away during the postseason.  Am I correct in saying both squads are bound by the 52 man limit?

wrighthall220

All teams are limited to 52 players, which always made it interesting to see how we (while I was at BC) were going to cut down the roster for the playoffs.   Normally, BC rotates at least 2 D and O-lines on a regular basis, so that was always a tight fit, more often than not though Special Teams were altered.   At this point Clark and Co. know how to cut down the squad to 52 but it was an interesting week leading up to the W&J playoff game in 2000...the first playoff game for BC... but hey any of the players left of the list were usually given a free ticket to the home playoff games!  :)

Thanks.  When you were talking about cutting the squad down to 52, I couldn't help but think about Lewis & Clark College.  For safety reasons, they aborted the rest of their season after four games because they were worried about the safety of the 34 (I think) players they had on the roster.  I'm sure some guys on BC's playoff roster also played on special teams, but how would you like to cut it to 34?  lol

BC is as close to Ferrum as the nearest big airport. John Carroll and UJH have easy airport access, I would hope that the committee would take that into consideration

Just got news that Lewis wont be playing this weekend.  Gonna be good to see how Highfill does with the first team offense and for an entire game.

I saw Highfill yesterday, looked quite good in the passing game. ;) I agree that getting all the reps and playing with the first string O-line will be interesting to see. Not to mention when Jake comes back, that is one less tape a BC playoff opponent has to look at.

All this John Carroll talk will be squashed once Capital beats them at home this weekend. You heard it here first! Kid that would have been a good pick'em game.

Hug...they could fly into Weyer's Cave regional airport.  That's right down the road.

Jake Lewis had played well overall this year and I hope he's o.k. after the concussion, but I have a feeling that once Highfill gets on the field it's going to be hard to get him off.  He got ability to be a difference-maker at this level.

Rugby,

You can't fly 50 people out of there on one plane the runway is not big enough. But keep thinking, if you really want BC to go to Texas.

It will be interesting to see his pass game on Saturday. So far Clark has used his ability to run the option. A good example was his 55 yrds rushing in the second half last weekend. The kid doesn't shy away from a hit so either way Jake must be ready. I like the fact that we will have two QBs who have big game experience going into the playoffs. ;)
