Not meeeeee! Congrats on a great season. I was smart enough to see you guys beating W&L after seeing you play BC. Even if it took a TD pass with 3 seconds to go to get the job done. I agree that Guilfold has come a loooog way. Hell, even ABNRGR wouldn't have predicted a .500 season this year. ;)

In regards to the 2nd best in the ODAC debate, I would have to say that W&L had the next best season. The whole thing is subjective, and I think they gave Bridgewater the biggest scare. W&L had a lot more balanced team than Guilford or HSC.

However, looking ahead to next season I have to think that Guilford will be the next best team. HSC is losing a lot, mainly Ricca, and W&L has to replace a QB. Guilford's offense looks like it will return mostly intact, and they have some legit weapons.

Catholic again showed some good things yesterday, but just cannot play a whole 60 minutes to win a game. As good as Vogelbach played, he threw about 3 or 4 easy interceptions that Catholic should have made but didn't.   Catholic's D dropped picks, while I don't remember many drops from Guilford WR's in a game where they threw 75 times.
It was nice to see the Cards net over 100 yards yesterday. Obviously it came against a subpar run defense in Guilford, but hopefully it gives Catholic's O some confidence about running the ball.

Trenches

Someone mentioned it on here earlier, however I wanted to point out that it is pretty impressive that GC's line gave up 0 sack on 72 attempts to a team that had the most sacks in the ODAC. Even after a goose egg on Saturday, CUA is still 4 sacks up on the  competition. They have come a long way from past years (we all know GC past tendency for giving up sacks).

2004: 30 sacks for 171 yards and 146-248 w/ 1515 yds, 15 tds-20 ints
... and not exact and only through 9 games...
2005:14 sacks for 89 yrds and 275-425 w 3150 yds, 33 tds and 18 ints

granted vogelbach takes most of the direct credit, but i think we all know that with lines from the years past, this record setting year may not have been.

...just a thought..

Trenches

about 5+ weeks back I said that GC had 3 wrs that could start on any team in the ODAC...  Many of you jumped on that statement. I'd like to point out that 3 GC wr's are in the top 8 in Rec/G and in the top 0 in Recyds/G. No other team can claim that. No other team can claim to be that deep at WR. And now that you most of you have seen these boys play, can you now see where I was coming from?

also, top WR in the ODAC... Bublavi or Barnette?
                         Rec  Yds    TD  2pt   Avg/C   Rec/G
BUBLAVI, N:         89  1613  13    0     18.1      9.89
Chris Barnette:      87  1174  13    6     13.5      9.67

Mind you, Barnette has put up these numbers while others around him have still put up numbers themselves.

.. just starting some late season award arguements  ;)...

Llamaguy

Not to downgrade an accomplishment, but if BC passed 72 times in a game I'm sure their receiving corps would have some eye-popping numbers too. The reason BC's receivers don't have big numbers is due to a little thing called offensive balance. And that is something no other ODAC school can even attempt to claim they had in 2005. ;)

Very true words from LLama (I think that stands for "The Enlightened One") but players do get rewarded for what they do (not what they have the potential to do)...if the BC receivers played for HSC, Guilford, Catholic or W-L they would no doubt have better numbers (and also fewer rings)...but they don't...and the ODAC is full of very good receivers (some of the best in the nation).

Llamaguy

Absolutely agree Coach Norton! I agree we (as in the ODAC) do have great receivers, just don't know if they would be as high in National categories if the league wasn't so unbalanced toward the pass. In BC's case, we would throw more; however, when you are averaging 6.7 yrds/carry on the ground for the season, the passing game never takes off. I guess the opposite would be Augustana who prior to last week had attempted 19 passes all year. Cudos to all the receivers in the ODAC, even the ones with average stats and a handful of rings!

As has Bublavi. The other Catholic U. receivers average 256.2 yards per game.

Sorry, what I meant by that was Barnette puts up these numbers while others on his team are among the league leaders as well. Not to diminish what little Ricca, bublavi, and the rest of the boys at CUA have done. Just for conversation sake really.

cuaplayer

If you want to know which receiver is the best ask the db's who've faced all these guys this year.

The numbers give some clue but tell more about offense design than the player.

If I remember correctly, 96 yards would be a school record. Record length completion was 90 when I was working there.
Yes, I think you're right.  The GC radio crew made that announcement.  Earlier I said I thought it was by Bublavi, but it was Bowman.
Pat, an interesting note on the 96-yard TD pass by CUA.   When Keith Ricca threw the 96-yarder to Bowman he broke his older brother Kevin's school record, which was 90 yards.

I'm looking at the seasons, side-by-side.  First, both teams lost to Bridgewater by a touchdown or less, and both beat Catholic by a touchdown or less.

Washington and Lee beat HSC by 4 points.  This might be considered determinative of who had the best season but, if it is, we also have to conclude that Guilford had a better season than Washington & Lee, that Emory & Henry had a better season than Catholic, and that McDaniel had a better season than Bridgewater, so I think we need to look at the teams' other games:

W&L lost to Guilford (4-5), 26-28                 HSC defeated Guilford (4-5), 47-45
W&L defeated Sewanee (4-5), 10-7              HSC defeated Sewanee (4-5), 52-7
W&L defeated Alfred (7-2), 36-22               HSC defeated Johns Hopkins (7-2), 49-20
W&L lost to Centre (6-3), 26-35                   HSC defeated Gettysburg (4-5), 56-40
W&L defeated Emory & Henry (1-8), 45-7     HSC defeated Dickinson (3-6), 66-27
