(2) How the heck are the coaches/SIDs going to decide b/t Ricca and Vogelbach for All-ODAC 1st team?

Vogelbaugh has obviously had a great season and revived Guilford football to some extent but he is not nearly as developed as Ricca at this point in his career.

Now, over the next few years the 1st team OCAC qb race will be very interesting with Vogelbaugh, the younger Ricca, the kid from RMC is not bad, don't forget about Woods from EHC who for some reason has disappeared off the radar this year, and look out for Jeff Highfill who is just oozing with talent as a runner and a passer.

Yeah, after comparing their stats (thanks xxxxxx :)), Ricca is the clear favorite.

Not to mention H-SC beat GC ... and Ricca's a senior, Vogelbach a freshman.

miz said, "That said, Guilford is much improved and should certainly be proud of what they've accomplished this year.  And Barnett did look like a pretty talented kid."

FYI - Not sure if you guys remember Jamie Barnette, who started at QB for NC State a few years ago, but Chris is his younger brother.

as for as the player of the year award goes, Ive got 5 guys in the league I would give it to over Washington, what has he done that was so special? BW showed this weekend that they were fine w/o him.  Try taking JD off H-SC, Vogelbach off Guilf.,  or Bublavi off their respective teams and the result would be bad.  JD will be and deserves to be poy.  Also, my bet is that 3 WRs will be placed on the 1st team (not both BW RBs, just Washington) Just my opinion, but I bet im right.

I dont know if it was mentioned on here yet, but Winston Young was named the offensive player of the week in the ODAC (surprise, surprise).  Is that two players or three that BC has had as offensive player of the week this year?  i know marcus has been....has jake?  or anyone else?  3 different players in one year would be pretty impressive

bcsportswriter

What has Washington done that is so special?  WOW!!!!

Franknizzy- You say BC would have been fine without Marcus?  Well, Winston Young was out of commission for the first four weeks of the season, so without Marcus we would have been on our third string running back (who is probably better than 75 percent of the starters still in the ODAC).  But to ask what he has done this season that is so special is crazy.  His yards per carry?  His yards per reception?  His three touchdown passes?  If teams would kick him the ball he would have at least 3 return scores.  Marcus is the best player in the ODAC...Hands Down!!!

bcsportswriter

Also, you ask how H-SC would be without Ricca and the other teams without their players...but the award is "Player of the Year" not "MVP".  I see a big difference in those awards and i think u must be talking about MVP

Outsider14

if marcus doesn't get player of the year (i mean, really, what has he done that's so special--are you serious?), then my vote goes to the bridgewater O-Line. 7 yds a carry w/ a not-so-special RB and his backup is tough to stop... oh and a (tied) league-leading fewest sacks against... hm

franknizy,

I think we could also see 2 RBs and 3 WRs on the First Team All-ODAC squad, as in 1999 and 2003.  I think you're right about 3 WRs being on the team, but I wouldn't count out 2 BC RBs either.  I'm pretty sure we'll see 2 RBs on the first team, and only Simpson will rival either BC back.

JD has rewritten the single season record book this year, and M wash  has numbers that are barely better than josh simpson. cmon

pakownr97

JD Ricca will probably be the Player of the Year for his record-breaking numbers.  But Marcus Washington is the most exciting player in the ODAC.  I get excited everytime he touches the ball.

Did y'all see Winston Young's picture on D3's cover page "Statistical Spotlight."  Nice recognition.

Ok, Catholic, who ya gonna stop, Winston or Marcus.  Sorry, the answer is NEITHER!

I think franknizy has a valid argument.

The main BC argument is 6-0 in the ODAC if they beat CUA.

Ricca's/Bublavi's flaw is losses in the ODAC.

Most everything else points to Ricca/Bublavi.  That's not saying Washington isn't an excellent football player.  But he's only had 7 games to produce, compared to 9 for the other two players, AND they've out produced him this year.

Outsider makes a good (although somewhat sarcastic) point about BC's oline.  BC fans are quick to say Ricca's numbers are as much a product of the system he is in as his talent.  They're not quite as quick to say any success a BC RB is having is as much a product of the system he's in as his talent.  Ok, really, they won't say that at all.  And I think that's a pretty biased analysis.   I'm NOT saying Marcus isn't good.  I'm saying both arguments should be dropped when looking at this award.

One other argument that should disappear this year: BC can't use the 'Ricca only played cupcakes to get beefy stats' this year because Washington has played EASIER opponents.

When it boils down to it, J.D. Ricca, Bublavi, and Washington are all phenomenal football players at their positions.  If you look at the context of history, I'd have to give my vote to Ricca or Bublavi.   The numbers they're putting up is incredible, and Ricca has kept HSC in every game it's played, including one against a better TEAM in BC.

Only thing I would interject is that W&L had a safety who was a lot better than anybody HSC had in their secondary.  #16 or #15, can't remember.  He had a funny name.  He was all over the field and brought the wood against BC.  The only kid from HSC who really impressed me on defense was their linebacker Burrell and their frosh. CB that picked off a pass against us and was very aggressive in coverage all day.

Good analysis as always.

I believe you're talking about Snoody (from W&L).  He's on my first team (as a CB).

Regarding H-SC's Inman ... he was named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week twice (more than any other player), is third in the ODAC in tackles (73), first in forced fumbles (2), and sixth in INTs (3).  The kid is a stud.  He (and the H-SC defense) did hold BC to "only" 31 points.

The cornerback was not Inman. It was #22 I think, a freshman out of Richmond. He was talkin' some major chit after intercepting that pass in the first quarter. ;)

Right, the CB he is talking about is freshman Jamie Edlow.  He's on my second team.

I was responding to his comment about the W&L corner (Snoody).
