I'm a new poster, just wanted to see I've played all the ODAC teams so far (except H-SC) and wanted to say that no matter what the records are, all the teams are looking up.  BC not only has athletes, they are a tough football team.  W&L, for only having so few football players, is a great team that beat us up physically and mentally.  CUA is a good team, and hung tough against us.  They came back, and that shows alot for their character.  GC is a damn good team, just needs to work on their defense and they'll be right in the hunt next year.  And E&H, a good team, Coach Montgomery just needs to weed out the bad influencess.  It may take a few years, but they will be very good, as they have promising talent.

Just wondering what people's perceptions on R-MC and their football program were.

With 2/3 of the team freshmen, it seems to me they've made some improvements this season as the season moved on.  This Ball kid at QB looks pretty good.  I'm heading up to Ashland to see the R-M/H-S game.  We'll lose, but hopefully we'll be a lot better next year.

In response to Kid's All Conference Team...
I think in the previous years they have been giving a coach from each team 2 honorable mention spots for him to give to his players who he thinks are deserving of recognition, but weren't voted into the first 2 teams. You didn't reflect that with your list.

Your analysis looked pretty good. I agree that Young and Washington could both be on the first team, and that Simpson is the only other back worthy of being honored on the first or second team. I would put Barnette above Martin on my 1st team. Martin and Smith are my second teamers with either Rushing, Joyner, or Ward as the third second teamer.

Regarding some Catholic players, I think Nick Olivero who you had as a 2nd teamer could very well be a first team safety. Despite just being a freshman, he shares the conference lead in interceptions at 5, including an 85 yard touchdown, while also coming in 7th in the conference in tackles.
You did not mention Avatus Stone, another Catholic freshman. He has 46.5 tackles(I hate the way assists are counted as .5) and 5 sacks, and could be considered for a linebacker spot.
You listed Ed Dahl as a honorable mention, and he is definitely a 1st Team caliber player. While Macon's DEs have put up high sack numbers, they have done it in a 4-3, while Dahl has his sacks in a 3-4. A 3-4 D is harder for defensive lineman to make plays than in a 4-3. Thomas Rhone might have more sacks than Dahl, but Dahl has more tackles and TFLs.
I agree with your decision to have Bobby Stutz as a first team linebacker, but I think he is the Defensive Player of the Year. No other single defensive player has stood out on the field to me as much as Stutz, and his numbers back it up. He leads the conference in tackles, TFLs, and in yardage lost.
Marshall Doss, one of your other 1st team LBs, is second in the ODAC stats in both tackles and TFLs. He is a great player as well, and would be my runner up to Stutz for Defensive POY.
Just wondering...how did you select Liam Murray for your choice?

I was impressed to see Macon get 3 scores in a row when BC was up 37-7. Macon has 15 starters that are Freshmen and the ODAC as a whole will be much more competitive in 2006. I did expect a little more from the RMC D Line but good luck in the future.

Looks like it's unanimous here on Post Patterns (when you take me out of the mix) ... Ricca deserves POTY over Washington.

Oh well, guess I'm just being a homer.  ;D
Kid...don't worry about the "homer" thing...it happens to us all right after getting engaged.

I'll give the award to somebody besides Washington, and BC will have to be happy with winning the ODAC for the 5th time...and thats a lot more fun than having the POY.

problem is a lot of the odac coaches feel the same way when they vote for post-season awards (at least in past years... this year the gap has definitely closed. before though, more deserving BC players were left off the all-odac lists because no opposing coach wants to see Bridgewater next to almost every name. that's a fact. i've said it before and i'll say it again, we've found "all-odac" players to be their team's weakness when watching film and attacked that position and the results are in the books. again, the gap has closed this year though).

and kid, my vote still goes to marcus. he's currently 2nd in the nation in scoring per game (and he usually has a pretty good day against catholic)... that's a tough fact to ignore.

Kid...do you want to wait until the season is over before conducting your player of the year voting? Should give some observers an opportunity to see more players, while also allowing the final results and statistics to sort themselves out.

Hasn't kept five people from already submitting their top 5s.

This is the furthest thing from official being that it's basically just an expanded poll question.

I think Marcus should get it because he has shredded every ODAC team except for W&L. And since BC is the only Run first team in the ODAC. Teams this year have been putting 9 in the box to stop the run. Catching the ball is great, but do you think that Bublvadi or Ricca can have a 3 touchdown rushing game or a 150 yards rushing in a game?

But I bet you if BC was a pass first offense that passed 87 percent of the time like Catholic or Hampden sydney that pass 70 percent of the time. Marcus could be a dominant receiver that catches for 150 -200 yards a game w/ multiple TD's.

Oh yeah, i almost forgot to mention he throws the rock also..... ;)

But if i had to vote for a MVP in the league besides Marcus, i would vote for The Freshman QB at Guilford because he is better than J.D. Ricca, Tweardy, and both CUA QB's because he is playing with less talent than Ricca, Tweardy and the QB's at Cathiolic.

So i think if Marcus don't receive the Award, give it to the record setting freshman.. To me, he's already proven himself to be the best Qb in the ODAC. This will probably never happen (A Freshman winning) but hey he has 3 more years to play..

Selection Sunday next Sunday.... Can't Wait.... For all of you that know what i mean!!!!!

For you that don't know.... MAybe next year :o

Maybe you could extend the deadline?  I know I'd like to see Bublavi in action.

Kid, I just noticed this.  BC's 'backup' RB, Winston Young, is averaging 11 more yards Total Offense a game than Washington.  Now, this it totally hypothetical, but if there was only 1 spot left on the 1st ODAC squad at RB, and it was down to Washington and Young, who do you think would fill the spot?  I know the quick reaction answer (even for myself) is Washington.  But Young would have clearly had the better game against half of the ODAC... W&L, RMC, and CUA (if Washington is sitting), and an even game against EHC.  They both had good games against GC and HSC, although Washington was sick in every way against GC.   It's feasible that they could both finish with similar TD numbers too, depending on the CUA outcome.

It's not a bad situation for BC at all, especially with Young coming back :)

When RMC came to GC two weeks ago, I was very impressed by Ball & Shareef, in particular, and gave them a lot of kudos many pages back.  RMC looked like they were on the edge of being a .500 team this year.  ODAC should have a lot of great - and high-scoring - games next year.

Yep, Marcus has been pretty sweet!  But let's not exaggerate too much.  He didn't shread (or play against) RMC, and he hasn't rushed for 150 yards a game this season.

I would have to disagree with the statement that he has less talent around him than the other QB's. I think Guilford's top 4 receivers are better than any other schools top 4. Catholic has the #1 guy in the country and the conference, but Barnette is a close 2nd. Rushing and Joyner also have put up great numbers, and are both athletic guys who don't drop balls.
If I had to take one receiver from any team it would be Bublavi. If I had to take two, I might think about Ward and Martin as well as Catholic's top two, but if I had to take a whole receiving corp, I would choose Guilford's. When they go to an empty formation, each of Guilford's guys is capable of making a big play.

Muchacho, I think that's the first time I've heard that on this board this season, and I think you may be on the money with it.  Martin impressed me, and so did Ward.  I'd offer Smith and Rolander at HSC though too.  Rolander has a knack for the big play, and Smith has to be put in the same crowd as Martin and Barnette.
