Question about playoff lineups:

BC dresses out a ton of players, and often has the chance to get their 2dn and 3rd lines in the game ( I heard someone yesterday compare it to the line shifts of an ice hockey team!)

I heard two comments of interest yesterday, the first was how BC would be hurt in the playoffs with the line-up cutdown to 52 players.

Any truth to this idea, or just speculation?  Wouldn't the limit hurt other teams, too?

Bwana,

I think all the top established programs are hurt by the 52 player rule.  Not just BC, but programs like Mount Union are hurt, too.  Because of previous success recruiting, these established teams have about 100 guys who dress for home regular season games.  Limit that to 52 and it limits your substitution possabilites for sure.

But all teams have to deal with it, so I think its wrong to suggest that BC will be hurt more.  Remember, there are no slouches in the playoffs, so most of the teams BC will play, especially since we our ranked in the middle of the playoff pack, will be top notch programs.

I'm ready.  I'll be there...unless its a flight.

The second question was about Mike Clark.

He is 61-10 since 2000, built up the program to a perennial playoff factor.  He has five straight league titles and six consecutive playoff appearances.  Is there any chance he will be leaving, or is he at BC for the rest of his career?  Has anyone come after him, and declined to stay at BC?

Questin 2a is from me...if no one has come after him, with his record recently why haven't they come after him?

yes, there has been teams that wanted him but because he declinedfor different reasons. But he are a few things to think about:

A) because of his kids were in school previously(Bridgewater and (Turner Ashby) he wanted to stay around till they finished. now since his oldest child graduated and youngest at CNU. he has the freedom to pack up and ship somewhere else without the pressure of making his children deal with changing schools.

B) he made coach colbert assistant head coach (probably to take over for him)

C) if he had to leave this would be the best time 61-10 since 2000 to go. 5 straight ODAC championships and six straight playoff appereances.

D) losing a big senoir class and recruting is tough at the moment because of the constraints

E) Offers from D-1 AA, D-2 schools (don't know schools exact)

if there are anymore to add... slap them on here

i don't think he would leave but if you were in this predicament what would you do?

This is my fear also.  I don't have any clue at all.  I worry that Coach Clark's alma mater, Cincinnati, which is one of the smaller D-1A schools with limited success, may try to snatch him from us.  My guess is he would hate to leave BC, but would jump without hesitation at that chance.

:'(

He probably needs to win a national championship to get that kind of consideration, though.

Now that I think about it, going from D3 to 1A is probably an impossible step.  Keeler from Rowan went from D3 to D1AA Delaware.  Are they Delawarians or Delawarites?  The world may never know.

My take is: as long as President Stone is at BC, Coach Mike Clark will be at BC. ;)

The bigger issue is losing assistants as they have been very loyal over the past few years.

Yeah like the present trip to Thiel, LOL. Ferrum at BC looks much better but Pat & Co. like to move BC down to a #7 in the South. ::)

Any thoughts. ???

Yeah, my thoughts are that BC was one point away from a perfect season, and we are seeded #7.

I can't express my REAL thoughts about that on this "PG" rated board.   :)

Well, yeah...but since we are in that interregnum where the regular season is over and the playoffs haven't really begun,  and all we can do is speculate about whether Pat is being mean to BC with the #7 slot OR cleverly working a ploy, we may as well discuss this stuff now...because in about two hours it's going to be all about the first round!

I want the AA to have the guts to give Trinity whoever is #8 and UMHB whoever is #6.  This Texas elimination bracket sucks.

I agree with you.  although I don't want it to be us, because I couldn't afford to go.  It is unfortunate the way they do that elimination thing to you guys every year.

good point--er, you know what i mean. but yeah, we score 2 more points against a good (healthy) mcdaniel team in the first game of the season and we're undefeated and definitely a top 10 team, although some people mark us down because we played a club team...

What was causing all the unsportsmanlike conduct calls yesterday?  I forgot my radio headset, so I wasn't getting the skinny from up in the booth.

trash talking with Catholic players and saying that the pass inteference call was bull crap (other word)... which it was!

also the refs in the odac are a little bent overshape when it comes down to bridgewater... they make them take off bracelets, head covers, knee pads over their knees completely, etc. they need to pay attention to the Catholic o-lineman holding  the d-line jerseys yesterday.

I think a little trash talking make the game a little more intense because it's comes down to one little thing ....run your mouth but you better back it up... by the end of the game they shake hands 95% of the time and laugh about it.

Great game Catholic, good coaching call with the onside kick. Tom Clark pulled a Mike Clark special... by catching them unexpectedly. If i was the coach Tom, i would of went for it on fourth down every possesion that i had.

Also, we need to congrats BC for being the most penalized team for six years in a row maybe seven :'(  j/k ... Get those penalties down for playoffs

Yeah, and that #78 holding was flagrant was right in front of the refs.  so were most of the CUA dBs holding but we never got a single call about it.  If we breathe, we get a call against us.  But the opposition gets a whole lot more leeway.

Why call it a predicament?    That connotes a bad thing.  He has all sorts of opportunities.  Of course, I'm prejudiced and want him to stay.  He's more than just a great coach.  He's a great person.  But he has to consider all aspects of every possibility.  I'm sure he remembers what happened at Div!A .  Being a scapgoat  or a sacrificial lamb was an awful experience, expecially with a family .  But you're right.  He's freer now than before.  To me, that's a scary thought.  At least it should be for Eagle fans!

Are they sure BC is not at W&J? Wesley was listed on the bottom and they are at home. W&J is on the bottom but hits the road?
