IRT recruiting. GC needs to get into Florida for his corners. He needs to stay away from the 1A and 2A schools unless he finds a diamond in the rough. He needs to get into Raleigh and Charlotte. The "BIG East" on the coast plays in big games and there are some hitters there too. Fayttetnam too. ALA Rocket at MC

It's nice to get the good kid who played for whatever but it is equally important that the school has a winning tradition. As an example my kid played in almost more playoff games at Havelock than he won games at GC in 4 years. And I did coach in more playoff games at Havelock in 4 years than they won games at GC). That is a sad state of affairs. Losing is a disease that permeates the entire organization. If they are used to losing when they get there than it will be alright to them in college. Recruit at winning programs!

I still have the thought if you can the best that VA has for VA colleges you can win. The same is true for NC. Get the best that NC has you will win. I think it is true with any state.

Kid...
Also something to remember is that Kiesel wasn't able to recruit until March(when he was hired)... and he still got some major talent. And that was recruiting for a 1-9 team he had no part in. Now that he has a full year and is recruiting for a 5-5 (4-2, 2nd in conf) team that returns a hell of a lot of talent. If he focuses on the D, run game, and O-line (graduating 3 starters)... It could be really interesting to see what GC will do next year.
Yes, it should be interesting.  Have you heard any rumors about where Kiesel's looking?  I saw a bunch of HS Seniors there for the E&H games.  The Hayesville crew brought a carload with them as well.  If this keeps up, we may have to rename the Quakers the (Hayesville) Yellowjackets.  lol

Not sure where is looking but I can tell you this... In the past, recruiting outside of NC was pretty weak. Look for Kiesel to tap into the northeast alot more, as well as spreading more into VA and the rest of the south.

Well I was just looking at the box score from last year's BC vs. W&J game (that is this week right?)  I was interested to see that even though the final score was 55-48, there were 9 punts in the game (I dont remember all of those, but Rugbyguy probably knows why :))  I guess that calculates into saying that each time is going to get a ton of possessions (b/c of quick scores, etc.)  If they scored a combined103 points last year with 9 punts, there could be even more points this year.  Also, BC was called for half of their penalties (5 out of 10) in W&J's last drive and the overtime periods (3 of them coming on W&J's final drive and 2 more on our final drive in OT).  I know the reffing was VERY questionable at the end of the game, but we have to make sure we keep our composure and focus at the end of the game if we expect to win.  Also, was Marcus not at full strength last year?  he only had 5 carries and one catch?  He needs to have the type of game he is capable of.  All in all I cant wait for Saturday to get here.  Two team that are full of seniors in the skill positions that know how to score.  I will be down on the field throwing balls into the ref (i dont know if it will be home side or away yet) so i wont be able to partake in too much action at Stone Station Saturday morning.  But i wil make sure i stop by.

Yeah, I remember Rugby Guy was walking back to the parking lot smiling like he had just watched his favorite team rob a victory. If I hadn't known he was a BC fan I'd threatened him too.
Rugby, where some bergundy this year, so bcsportswriter doesn't try to kick your arse.

That was toooooo funny!

Dofflemyer was in rare form too!  :D

BC record for punts in a playoff game is 9 vs Waynesburg in 2003. My guess would have been 2002 vs King's or 2003 vs Mount Union.

My pick:

BC will beat W&J.  This year we will be more aggressive on defense and put pressure on Edwards, forcing some turnovers.  Offensively I think Colbert will mix things up with playcalling and personnel (it's nice when the other team has to prepare for two good RB's and two good QB's...) and keep the W&J defense off balance.  It should be a fast-paced game and a game of momentum swings.  Both teams are playoff seasoned and talented.

I think BC has the following advantages:

1. Speed
2. Coaching (IMO)
3. Jopson field

I think BC has these potential liabilities:

1.  Kicking game has been inconsistent (but very good in the big games)
2. W&J has a great QB and WR's.  Hoping that all the passing attacks BC has faced this season will pay off, although this will be by far the best.  BC has been creating turnovers lately (4 picks against W&L and 6 against CUA).

Overall, BC wins out in a close game.  I feel that similar to our HSC game this year this Saturday will be lower scoring than everyone expects.

Thats my take......

I agree with you.  They need kids who know how to win, expect to win (not just hope to win) and get mad as hell if they don't.  Hopefully this year's success will help instill that attitude and influence some kids from winning HS programs to come to GC.  I know some of the Hayesville kids and they're used to 7000-8000 folks at the Murphy game with both teams maybe 8-1.   In my opinion, that sort of expectation and attitude will be contagious.

I'll just have to get the cars parked in a hurry.  Once the west lot is full my parking work is done.

good article in the DNR on josh knight from HHS... I was wondering when he was gonna get some love. my senior year he was one of the better corners i went against every day. great speed and quickness, plus he wasn't afraid to come up and hit a guy that out-weighed him by 30 pounds... good kid too.

Congrats to Corey Haase (OT) from Guilford for making the South Team for the East Coast Bowl (all-star game for Division II, III, and NAIA players).  Game is played on Nov. 26, so they took players not in the NCAA playoffs.

Other Division III players:

Jeremy Jackson – DT – Averett
Jerrod Sample – OG – Salisbury
Leroy Satchell – RB – Salisbury
Kelvin Ricks – OT - Salisbury
Jeff Chick – WR – Widener
