It is really hard to get a full-scholarship I-AA head coaching job from D-III -- who was the last person before K.C. Keeler to do so?

If that's what Clark is looking for, then it might be a long search. Meanwhile, D-III's a good place to be.
No question it is a hard thing...and D3 is a great place to be...and I guess I bring up the question about Coach Clark more for assurance than any real fear of his leaving.

It seems like it is not only hard to move up from D3, but it seems hard to move up from any level to another.  The list of college coaches who have moved to the pro's is short, and the number who have succeeded is shorter still.  There are 1-AA coaches (like Matthews at JMU) who have proven themselves as coordinators in major DI programs, then taken a coaching job at 1-AA.

Keeler had to be a successful coach at D3, plus been an all-american at his alma mater in a year they won the national championship, plus be able to say he was already a proven recruiter in the delaware area to be able to move to 1-AA.

Or consider Coach Kehres at Mount Union.  I am not surprised he has not left, but I am surprised that he has not had more invitations to leave.

I guess the real Mover between levels is Mark Duffner.  Head Coach at Holy Cross (1-AA), then at Maryland (D1), then onto the pro ranks as defensive coordinator and LB coach.

I guess there is more risk of losing to Clark to retirement than to another team...so I better find something new and fresher to worry about...like when Gibbs will leave the 'skins... ;)

congrats to Marcus, Robbie, GNel and Ranardo on making the Bandits. Stay w/ it Sticky; you're good enough to play in that league.

Was there an article that talked about this, Outsider?  I'm pleased that Ranardo, and Gary made it and that Marcus and Robbie are still there as teammates.  I would love to read about it if you could tell me where I might find it. :)  Wow with so many of our BC players, I'm going to have to make a trip to see them play!!  Richmond is not so far away.

As I roamed around D3sports, it occured to me that there is at least one D3 coach who has made the move to DI-of course, it was in Basketball.

CUA coach Mike Lonergan went to DI Vermont, albeit with a one year stay at Maryland as an assistant...so I guess he should count, or at least offer inspiration!

Now Olinemom you know the one and only REAL source for BC Football news. Thats right,  Bridgewaterfootball.com. Kid has a synopsis on his site since it has not even been released yet on the AIFL or the the Richmond Bandits site. ;)

Helps when one of those four players who made the team hooks me up with the insider information :)

I'm disappointed Olinemom ... thought you were a BC fan ;) ... stop spending so much time shmoozing with the UW-Whitewater head coach (yeah, I heard about that story) and get on over to BridgewaterFootball.com!

There have been probably a half-dozen coaches in basketball to make the jump from D-III to D-I.

Consider me chastized re bcfootball.com.  I'll go read that right away.  I just figured Outsider knew something nobody else seemed to know.
As to schmoozing with Coach B-- he's a nice man.  he didn't have to answer me, but he did.  I want them to feel welcomed and I want them to WIN.  They took a charter down.  Charters scare me to death ever since that Marshall flight went down.  My brother almost went there, but decided not to at the last minute.  He would have been on that plane.  Color me paranoid.  But that's the way it is.  The aroma of chocolate is wafting here.  I do't feel like grading papers.  Too bad I don't have a staircase to try that throwing them down the staircase routine.  Ah, well let's go read Kid's exclusive!!  And then, I swear I'm going to eat supper and begin to grade these lovely exams.

William & Mary is only DI-AA in football.  DI-AA only exists for football and all othersports are either DI, II, or III.

Pat-

In your opinion (you are clearly better informed on this than I) why is it easier for the hoops jump?

BTW-I forgot Bo Ryan at Wisconsin...

Possibly because there are more D-I basketball schools ... and D-III basketball schools, for that matter. Not sure, to be honest.

I guess I am not the only one who can't sleep tonight.  They are calling for 1-3 inches of this ice crap around B'water.  I hope both teams have gotten there safely!!  How can they seriously consider busing WW all the way to Va Tech to practice in that kind of weather?  It gives me the heebee geebees (sp)  Tell me this ice is not going to happen, O great Guru of Football

I realize everyone is talking primarily about men's sports, but I believe the very successful women's basketball coach at DIII Hardin-Simmons went directly to DI Oklahoma State a few years ago.

Hey Pat!  Long time no chat.  I was just wondering about Ryan?  Is he related to you?  I'm assuming yes.  My guess would be brother since you might not be old enough to be a father of a 16+ year old?  Just curious.  I'd love to meet him as well and have you stop by come Saturday at Stone Station.  Don't let the little spat between you and Llamaguy stop you from coming.

Good Luck with the Broadcast and we'll catch you on Saturday.

Peace!  I am the SkoalTrain!!!!  A.K.A. E&HDad's step-son. (There is a little blast from the past regarding post patterns earlier this year.)
