Just thought we would let all of the teams in the ODAC know that when you play bridgewater, no matter what the score, i guess, it is OK to run off the field with out the traditional hand shake.  SO when all of you other teams beat them...let the celebration begin.  No need to wait around at mid field for them.  They will be running to the locker room like little pup's that just got whipped with their tail's between thier legs.  What a bad showing for your conference.  Hopefully the rest of you are a bit more respectable.

My initial response to this post would have gotten me kicked off this board sooooooooo...

gogreenterror, my best wishes to you on a great and enjoyable rest of your season.  I'm sorry that your experience this weekend in Bridgewater left a bad taste in your mouth.

Sincerely,

Miz

Miz,
Believe it or not most of the trip to Bridgewater was a great experience, the facilities were far better and as visiting fans we were treated much better than at other VA schools (CNU??) that we visit.  As a former athlete, though, who has had my share of good wins and hard losses it was sad to see that a coaching staff would allow their team to leave the field like that.  I have a great deal of respect for the 4 or 5 players who remained on the field, even after the rest of their team ran for cover, to do the right thing.  Bridgewater obviously showed that they had skill in the first half, it is just sad that they got so caught up in the moment that they would act that way over a game.  Maybe they should be reminded of the players in the southern states that would have given anything to be able to take to their home field last weekend win or loose.  It is just a game, they need to learn to play it like men.

Gogreenterror- The McDaniel players were celebrating like they had just won the national championship while huddling in the middle of our field when the last sack was made.  There is no excuse for going off the field without shking hands, but maybe your players were soooo excited that the BC players didnt want to interrupt

I always considered Bridgewater to be a pretty classy bunch. But then again it's been a while since I've seen them lose so maybe all the good will stems from not losing to Catholic ever. If they were celebrating in the middle of the field I don't see a problem with retreating to the locker room.

If it was a cleanly played game then there was no reason for Green Terror to come on the board and shoot off like that. Does he ever watch tv? Whenever there is a big celebration a few guys stick around to shake hands in the pile while the rest of the losing team respectfully leaves. Why come over here and essentially gloat by mouthing off about something which was of no consequence?

Im a AU alum and at first i came here to check for information on Washington and Lee, and if anyone has any info on them i'd appreciate it.

But as an unbiased observer and going by what you guys have said about Bridgewater leaving the field i am really shocked that anything like that would happen.  As a former player i have never seen anything like that happen and i think its a disgrace to McDaniel's program and the school itself.

I really doubt that the BC players didnt want to interrupt McDaniel, i dont care if McDaniel was doing cartwheels, thats no excuse for Bridgwater to lower themselves and show no class.

I agree with those who've posted about BC not shaking hands after the game, regardless of a McDaniel celebration.  We should have been gracious in defeat.  :-\

After much thought (more so crying), the Eagles' loss this weekend can be traced back to two things: Lewis' interceptions and McDaniel's offense taking care of the ball.

I kept wanting to "blame" our defense for giving up 36 points, but three of the five touchdowns by the Terror only had to travel 52 or less yards.  What did scare me was that three of the five Terror TDs only took less than 70 seconds ... quick strikes, large gains ... so we can't fault the heat, or our defense being out on the field long.  McDaniel basically got what they wanted, when they wanted it.  Hampden-Sydney would have put up 50+ points against us the way we played in the 2nd half.

Penalties would be the third "excuse" for BC losing ... last year we averaged a ridiculous 93 yards penalty yards a game ... we picked up where we left off last year with 102 penalty yards this past weekend.  Shenandoah only had 15 penalty yards this past weekend ... so they're obviously a bit more polished and controlled.

Anywho ... like people have said, our first half performance made me think (at the time) that we would easily go 10-0 this year ... but is the 2nd half repeats itself in future games, we will be lucky to go 7-3.

Lets make a statement next week boys ...

Looks like Shenandoah might use a little trickery next weekend ... much like CNU and HSC did in the past.

Their QB is also their punter.

Starting QB Jon Hoffman booted the ball five times for a dismal average of 32.0 ... but their other punter, sophomore Chris Dooley, nailed five punts for an average of 45.2 (long of 65)  :o ... that could be leading the NCAA after week one (last year's best punt average was 42.7).

FYI, Jacob Lewis going 26 for 40 passing set a Bridgewater record for pass completions in a game ... the record was 23, set back in 1996.

Maybe once the post game scuffle broke out in the middle of the field someone thought it might be smarter to get at least 1 of the teams out of there to avoid escalation of the incident?

concerning the penalties: take a look at bc's opponents average penalties/yds per game over the past few years, then compare that to their penalties/yds vs. bridgewater. takes a little research, but i know at least one person on this board that will take the time and notice something.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the game, had to listen.  But BC has had a serious penalty problem in the last few years.  And the ones that usually hurt the most are the delay of games and the personal fouls (late hits!).  I don't remember hearing a lot of p.f. penalties this game though.
Hopefully they can learn a lot from this game and maybe get a little bit of a "chip on their shoulders".  I'm sure they all played hard, but I'm sure its probably humbling to loose a lead like that and be "the ones" who snapped the home winning streak.
Get SU this week!

The qb/punter was a very good punter. He only average 32 yds per kick but almost every single one of them was unreturnable and bouncing out of bounds.  Whatever track star BC has back their returning kicks this year will have a hard time getting his hands on any of those kicks.

Yeah, I was a sophomore and remember how old it got hitting lutz and cruz all game. O.k, I never really tackled anyone because it would have messed up my uniform but the other guys were probably getting sick of it. B.C hasnt looked back since.

I don't have a problem with B.C leaving the field if there was a celebration going on. Celebrating before the hand shake is just as classless as leaving the field. Leaving the field and middle of the field celebrating are both classless acts. You shake the other teams hand first and then celebrate. So if(I wasnt there but sounds like they were celebrating like they were in Salem) they were celebrating like that then there was nothing wrong with leaving the field.

To set the record straight:

1. There was no scuffle, tussle, fight or other acts of ill-will.
2. Several BC players did stay to shake hands.
3. The celebration that took place was on par with what one would expect when coming back from 19 down on the road against a great team in a great series that has been as tightly contested as this one. It looked an awful lot like BC's celebration in Westminster in 2002 when the Eagles scored a TD on 4th down late in the game for the final lead having trailed 13-3 at the half.. or the big BC win in 2000. Those celebrations were well earned as well.

No need to rubberneck a non-incident from either side of the highway.
