Quick question for the post pattern nation.......(like the ESPN question on the 11pm sportscenter)  ???

How long will it take for Colbert to turn St. Vincent into a playoff team?

I think it will take him 4 years...

They will be in the Presidents Athletic Conference and it will be atleast 4 yrs. They will not be eligible to win the Conference title or play in the playoffs until their NCAA D-III provisionary period is up. That would make them playoff eligible in the 2010-2011 year.

I quoted this from the press release...BC folks should take a great deal of pride in this...considering where the program was...it was the first thing that stood out to me.

"I am delighted to announce that Bob Colbert has enthusiastically accepted the challenge of building our new football program," St. Vincent president James F. Will said. "Bob's extensive experience with successful programs including eight years at Division III standout Bridgewater College, has prepared him to create a program that will bring success to our students both on the field and in the classroom."

Part of success is passing the elements of that success through the coaching ranks.  Be worried because you are losing a good coach, be happy that your program has garnered the title "Division III standout," be excited about the coaches that would love to coach for a D3 standout program hoping for success and their own head job some day...

Well said, Pat Cu.  And we at BC feel exactly as you say in your last paragraph.
GO BC!

BC Class of '81

Since Pennsylvania already has a Slippery Rock, should St Vincent in Latrobe, PA be named "the Rolling Rocks?"

I sure would like to be number 33 on that team.

Latrobe is also the hometown for Arnold Palmer, but I guess "Arnie's Army" is already taken.  Besides, Arnold was a Demon Deacon.   :)

...

Gosh, that would be great...maybe they could get corporate sponsorship to pay the freight for a huge new football field!

Hey Kid, you and I are at practice enough. How about we ask Coach if we can split that position? ;D

Heck yeah!

All we'd have to say is, "hey Copeland ... do your thing."

On another subject; will you be present for the RMC-BC women's bball game on Tuesday night?

Lateral for safety on blocked PAT was something to behold. Can't wait to watch my BC/HSC tape.

enzoneking6 is correct.  BC is loaded at wide receiver. Waring is going to be great, Oakes is very special as well.  Watch out for Jarus Cox, he didn't play football until senior year in high school (Hargrave). He is a special athlete with great hands, excellent speed and jumping ability to add to that height (6' 4") that is a real bonus in D3.  With Heifel at QB and the running threat of Winston Young this could be an incredible offensive team if BC can put together an offensive line.

Don't forget the possible return of RB Robert Matthews who was the fastest man on the 2004 BC team. He may or may not be back in 2006.

And as we all get prepared to view another day of that inferior, non-playoff brand of college football, let me wish a Happy New Year to all the denizens, sponsors, participants, and posters of d3football.com!

What is the purpose of the provisionary period?  Just to be sure they're gonna stick with it?

To go from NAIA rules to NCAA rules, eliminate scholarship athletes, etc.

All schools have to do this.  For example, when Guilford transitioned from the NAIA to NCAA DIII, they had made the commitment several years earlier, but wasn't an official ODAC member eligible for league titles and the NCAA postseason until the fall of 1991.
