Hey, kid, FYI - I got a call today from someone very close to the Guilford football program and we talked a bit about this fall's team.  He said the Quakers should have a very good team and the coaching staff is working really hard to recruit needed players and move personnel to best help the team.  Among other things, he said:

1.  Josh Vogelbach #16 (rising soph QB) will definitely be back.
2.  Taylor Baker #2 (rising Jr. FS) will definitely be back.
3.  Devon White #6 (rising Sr. CB - transfer from Ariz Western JC last fall ) may have some issues with GPA.
4.  Josh Crowell #3 (rising Sr. CB/FS - transfer from Ariz Western JC last fall ) may not return - not sure of a reason.
5.  Demetrius Snead #24 (a rising Sr. RB) - transfer from Ariz Western JC last fall) may not return - not sure of a reason.
6.  Danny Langston #18 (a QB) may be switched to a DB position.
7.  Recruits include a good TE with size who got DI looks from schools such as FSU.
8.  A 26 year old DB transfer who has played at one of the SUNY schools (I think he had a military career before entering college).
9.  OL recruits to fill holes left by graduating Kirwan, Matthews and Haase.

Somewhat interesting to me that all three players with question marks were transfers last fall from the same Arizona JuCo.

Hope this helps restore some of the faith you had in your source last week.  Peace

White, Haase, and Kirwan are all playing with Indoor football teams. Haase and Kirwan for the Greensboro Revolution. And White is actually playing for a team also called the Revolution the NY.
Crowell will not be back.. have heard grades and transfer as reasons... so not sure which is true. As far as all three being from the same JuCo.. take alook at the coaching staff (;)). might answer a question or two.
I have heard about the TE... haven't seen him but apparently he's real.  this could only help an already potent passing attack.
And I have seen a good number of big boys (OL) walking around on recruiting trips.

Should be an interesting summer camp at GC.

Thanks, Trenches.  I knew about Kirwan and Haase with the Greensboro Revolution, but didn't know about Devon White.  Kirwan and Haase graduated this spring, but White had a year of eligibility remaining.  Devon's name is listed as a WR/DB/KR on the roster of the New York/New Jersey Revolution in the Great Lakes Indoor Football League, so his pro status confirms he won't be back at Guilford.

ChessDoc...I see that you aren't a Catholic or ODAC fan exactly, so what can you tell us about Dave Dunn. What about him will definitely make the Catholic program a success?

jacketlawyer - The last two times GC traveled to Ashland, I meant to go and something came up - maybe 2006 will be the year!  I hope the Jackets have a great season - except, of course, for Oct. 28.  Forgive me?  lol

heres the deal. 1. honest 2. decent 3. loves kids 4. kids love him 6.smart 7 inspires greatness 8. florida connection is huge think he got 7-8 kids out of the box. 9. most florida hs coaches like and respect him 10. ivy coaches like and respect him generating leads 11. we know him both from florida and ct (he coached there) he came in contact with my son when we were looking at florida hs we ended up at aquinas rather than pope where he was but never lost touch with him. When he was at becker he did a great job. We looked at catholic but ended up going up north for other reasons than football. He is probably the most decent guy i have ever met and ive met a few. anyone will be luckytocome in contact withhim. Not to boast but they can play a bit of fottball in florida.spelling is another story

If we're not something like 4-3 or even 3-4 going into that date, I ain't gonna be there, Hasanova!!  The last five years have been the worst I've ever seen for Randolph-Macon football in the 23 years I've been following them.  I'm not used to 2-8 seasons.

But I won't give up on 'em, either. 8)  I hope Guilford has a great season as well.  Based on some of the posts I've read here. it sounds as if the Quakers have a LOT to look forward to.

chessdoc...Thanks for the rundown.
I agree with the Florida assessment. When I saw he coached at JPII, I thought that would be a great asset. Not only will he be in touch with Florida HS programs, but he will also be familiar with Catholic schools, which is obviously a major recruiting plus at Catholic.  Tom Clark exploited that when he came from Bishop McNamara his 1st time around. Coach Ambrose was a public school guy, and I don't know if he understood that difference.
I didn't think of the Ivy League connection as being a benefit to recruiting, but you may be right. Although Catholic doesn't have the reputation of an Ivy League school, it has to help him to know how to sell a more expensive private University that doesn't have the luxury of athletic scholarships.

no it runs much deeper, he will actually get leads from people because they like him. many of us will look out for him and our kids are not going there or never played for dave. In south florida dave dunn  is sort of like honest abe. He just a guy you can trust. I have zero skin in this game, and my kid did not decide to go there. So Im just calling a spade a spade. The number of honest coaches we met is limited. broken promises, bad advice is the norm not with this guy he tells it as he sees it. Again catholic could not of done better. Thisa jew would of sent his son there in a heartbeat. But being a smart dad son makes the decisions and went for academics before football. Not to say that he did not make a great choice but for a guy to keep in touch after someone decides not to play for him thats all class.

Well, I hope they're both above .500 on Oct. 28.  I've seen many of the ODAC campuses, but not R-MC's.  I've always heard how pretty it is, so I look forward to making the trip.  Hopefully, the Jackets will be playing well enough to entice you to make the drive - I'd like to meet you and say hello.  Speaking of subpar seasons, however, I've unfortunately had my share as a Quaker fan.  Until last fall's 5-5, we hadn't had a winning season since going 8-2 in 1997.  Hope springs eternal, though, and the prospects do seem bright on paper for this fall ... (fingers crossed) lol

You're making Coach Dunn sound like a modern day Jesus.  An appropriate fit at CUA.

Joking aside, no coach can be 100% honest with recruits.  When recruiting someone, even if he's great on paper, there's no telling what he has got until he puts the pads on at the collegiate level.  There's no way Coach Dunn is telling kids "well Johnny, I can't tell you at this time whether you'll play any during your first couple years, or whether or not we'll win, but why don't you come try playing for us here at Catholic."  Therefore, he's saying what every other coach is;

a) "We're only a couple players away from being at the top of the ODAC." << do kids really buy that?!
b) "You'll fit right in with our system and see the field right away." << ahh, the words that make a high school kid salivate
c) "We'll give you more money." << shesh, move to Division II already, and just give scholarships
d) "If you go to Bridgewater, you'll have to wait a couple years to play." << not accurate at all, if you're better than a senior, you'll play instead of him
e) "It smells like crap around the town of Bridgewater." << very true, thanks to the chicken poo
