This year's BC recruiting class is looking as good (on paper) as the one we will graduate tomorrow, and the group of rising juniors we have.  Not counting the class of 2010, I would say the top three recruiting classes BC has ever had were;

1) class of 2002; Lutz, Cruz, Richardson, Parker, and Huffman to name a few
2) class of 2006; The recruiting class that came in after the 2001 Stagg Bowl
3) class of 2008; The likes of Highfill, Copeland, Cotton, Campo and Chaptman

Kid,

I do think that 2002 class was the best recruited. I am a little biased that the 2004 class was second best with players such as Taylor, Nelson (the 2nd best LB in the conference his junior and senior years), Lehto, and White. If Mike Kelly would have stayed in school he would of competed for player of the year and a lot of the RB might not have come to BC that graduated in 2006. But there are always what ifs......like PJ.

Yeah, Taylor alone could carry a recruiting class.  But I "forgot" that Nelson and Dustin Newman (OL) had earned All-American honors that year.  So that's three All-Americans, then White (a hellava corner) and Lehto (Bridgewater's second all-time leading receiver in yards).  Not shabby, and I agree, that if Kelley had stayed in school, that would have competed with the class of 2002.

I forgot how impressive Kelley's stats where as a freshman and sophomore.  I remember him being quite the athlete, but it sort of got silenced by the Lutz-Cruz show:

2000 (freshman year): 8 games, 38 carries, 282 yards, 7.4 yards per carry, 3 TDs
2001 (sophomore year): 12 games, 66 carries, 506 yards, 7.7 yards per carry, 4 TDs

Amazing that if Kelley had stayed for his junior and senior years, he would have joined Jamie Langley, Marcus Washington, Linwood Johnson, Robbie Matthews and Eric Spence for the 2002 season ... then throw in Winston Young for the 2003 season.  Scary.

I agree - the Eagles are a very good team and deserve postseason play!

As of 3:50 PM today, this is what's posted on www.footballscoop.com:  "Guilford:  We hear Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dearrion Snead was fired."  Any previous reference to the HC (Head Coach) has been removed from the site.

A quick check of Guilford's website shows Snead's name and biography have been removed from the Coaching Staff icon.  I'd heard a rumor last week from an insider that there were some compatibility issues within the staff and I guess this confirms it.  Perhaps this is also what Trenches had an inkling about a few weeks ago.

Wow, Guilford was pretty darn quick in updating their website.  Bob Colbert has been our Associate HC and Offensive Coordinator for the last five months while being the HC of St. Vincent.  Amazing.

Yeah, I was also surprised at how fast they updated the site.  GC has also already posted an "Assistant Football Coach" position under the college's "staff opportunities" icon.  Volleyball Head Coach Glenda Parrish's name is also removed, so I guess that "rumor" is true.  She had very limited success in her three years (including 8-18 in 2005), so that didn't really surprise me.

I guess it's part of the new and more aggressive "We're Quakers - we don't mess around - damn it!" credo.  lol

I think when you terminate someone (if that's what it is) then you get his name out ASAP. :)

They'll probably fix it next year when they update the football web page with the new roster.  ;D

Well if history is any proof they normally take away some duties then give someone a crap job making 5.60 hour then they "resign".

But a quick eviseration shows that losing may not be an option anymore (God Bless Iron Mike Ketchum of course) at GC-Q. Takes a hard ruthless man for hard ruthless times.

I know I was pissed off in 2000 watching my sons first start behind to BC at half (by 50....(BY 50!!) and the kick off by BC was a on side kick. Nobody can take that too long. Getting your face pushed in while they laugh at you. Made me a little whacked out and I was just watching. of course I was whacked out from repeatedly visiting  places where God had left before I got there. You know a little light Rwanda and a little Congo where every gets along...heh eheh,
Never shall I leave a fallen comrade

I also hope it's no longer an option.  I know it was especially hard on the parents, players and coaches, but we all got tired of it.  I live 3 miles from GC and several years ago I simply wouldn't go when BC came to town.  Here's hoping the tide is turning and will continue to turn.

Someone who's definitely "in the know" in the Guilford Athletic Dept. has confirmed to me that last season's Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dearrion Snead is no longer with the school.  He also said ads have been posted seeking an Assistant Coach, ostensibly for Defensive duties.  I hope they get someone really good who can help bolster what was 2005's Achilles heel for the Quakers.

Yes, Snead has been fired. To be honest, this can't help the quakes one bit. He was a great coach... knowledge, recruiting, coaching ability. No word of a replacement has been made but I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Thanks.  I hope they can find someone good at this late date.  Less than three months until fall practice.
