No wonder you got irritated at Collegiate!!

Haha, ok, so I exagerated when I said I HATED it ... but it is kind of silly.  I went to Norfolk Collegiate (in the TCIS, but not VPL) from 2nd to 5th grade ... and I remember when Richmond Collegiate changed their name (it had to be in the mid to late 90s) to just Collegiate, my friends still at NC (I started at NA in the 7th grade) made fun of the fact that Richmond Collegiate was trying to act like the only (or best) Collegiate in the state.  Oh well, not that big of a deal.

If NA ever changed to "Academy," then I'll be pretty upset.

So don't worry, it's not that I'm bitter.  Pretty sure we never cared much about or for Richmond Collegiate in athletics or academics.

As much as I hate to admit it, I liked what H-SC did, too. ;D  I wish R-M would do the same thing, and not make such a Hardy Boys mystery out of it.

I don't know their entire recruiting class, but from what I've heard (from insiders there), you have a very nice class coming in again.  To be honest, I think R-MC will have one of the better classes in the ODAC.  Of course I'll say Bridgewater will have the best (but that's just because I know the most about it).  I do think R-MC's is better than H-SC's after seeing who the Tigers are getting.

I haven't heard a thing out of Greensboro (I have no 'inside' connections there), but assuming their offensive hype from 2005, they'll get some nice talent in there.

Emory & Henry is doing alright as well (especially with the two top 100 players from VA).  I wouldn't get too excited about all the big offensive linemen their getting (the 6'6'', 300 lb dudes).  If they're that big and playing Division III, somethings 'wrong.'

I've heard nothing from Catholic and Washington & Lee.  Never do (at this time of the year).

On an off note, I did hear Washington & Jefferson has 92 recruits so far.  Goodness gracious!

Well, I certainly hope so.  We're due for a good season soon, and while I don't think it'll be this year, it should be worth the wait 'til 2007.

I'm certainly not worried about Bridgewater's incoming class.  Looks like reload to me!

W&J typically has a strong team every year.

In my experience, I've never seen Guilford do a list similar to Sydney's - but I wish they would!  I know the following names and information, but not much more:

-Michael Warren, Southern Wayne (County) HS, Dudley, NC (near Goldsboro) 5'9" 165 CB (S. Wayne Coach's son)
-Joseph Davis, Southern Wayne HS, Dudley, NC 6'1" 250 DL
-Brandon Johnson, Bassett (VA) HS, RB (also plans to play basketball for the Quakers) rushed 116 times for 766 yards and 9 TD's in 2005
-Nicolas Dove, Eastport-South Manor HS, Eastport, LI, NY ?
-James Tyndall, Wake Forest-Rolesville HS, Wake Forest, NC (near Raleigh), 6'0" 190 LB
-Markas Brunson, Rosewood HS, (near Goldsboro) 6'0" 233, LB or may play FB (same HS as Quakers Danny Langston and Troy Smith)

I hear rumors of a good-sized TE who got some interest from DI and a 26-yo DB who served in the military before returning to school, but I don't know these to be facts.  If I get anything else, I'll pass it along.  Are you ready for some football?!

Thanks for the report, hasa!  The DNR might have an article on our recruiting at the beginning of next week (the writer emailed me for some info - Clark OKed it).

You're welcome, kid.   Wish I had more, but it's a bit piecemeal.  These are players I've been able to glean from press releases.  Kiesel says the Quakers will have 50 and I only have information on six!

That is a great poll!!!  But you should have added a fourth category-really really smart!

You see, not only are we smart, but we can be a real smart a** too. ;)

Yes I meant Commissar's Cup.  (wasn't that a Clash song? or should have been!)

I realize that Minks have been arrogant for some time, and the Bridgewater success is recent so I will be more patient.

Do you really want me to know how to give or take Karma points.

Congrats to Bridgewater's own Turner Ashby High School for winning the Group AA baseball championship today.  They finished the year with a 25-1 record.  BC will be getting TA's Seth Little for football, but Little also played for TA's baseball team.  That gives him two rings for his senior year (TA's football team also won the Group AA title).

I had heard BC was bringing in a stud Tight End, but didn't realize he is rated the 4th best TE in the NATION!!!

As a Twin Cities native it's hard for me to picture anyone from Breck being the fourth-best tight end in any ranking. :)

Earlier, I posted this information on Brandon Johnson from Bassett (VA) HS in Henry County.  When I went to the website for the Bengals (9-4 in 2005, lost to Salem HS in the state semifinals), I also see where he caught 10 passes for 244 yards/1 TD and completed 17 passes for 197 yards/3 TDs.  Finally, he is also scheduled to play in the VHSL All-Star game in July.

Shoot, this game might be worth going to then.  Bridgewater has three (maybe four) playing in that game;

  • Tee Anderson (DB from E.C. Glass)
  • Louis Sanchez (OL from Harrisonburg)
  • Seth Little (QB/DB from Turner Ashby)

The "maybe" is Wynn Sigmon (TE from Franklin County).  He's probably our best recruit, but because VA was stacked with great TEs this year, he might be left out of the mix.

Now all I have to do (to attend the July 14 all-star game) is to convince the soon-to-be-wife ... we'll be getting back from our honeymoon on July 7 ... will she let me attend such an event only a week after we start living together?!

Just remember the old adage, kid, "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!"  lol  Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.  Best wishes.  Hope she'll go with you to the game!

On a football note, I listed Brandon Johnson as a RB due to his rushing numbers, but he may have been a QB (his uniform number is 12 and I saw him under center in an action photo) in a run-oriented offense.  He rushed 116 times, caught 10 passes and attempted 50 passes in 13 games, so it sounds as though he had a lot of options in Bassett's offensive scheme.
