Good Lord, the posters haave been busy.  Gotta get some reading done here. :-\

Nice upgrades to the web site, by the way.
Welcome back, jacketlawyer.

There once was a lawyer from Macon
Reading webs with his OJ and bacon.
"Good Lord," he starts squalling,
"I'm behind on footballing!
My seat to The Game - is it taken?!"

Thanks Hasanova--good to be back, and to read your limericks!!

Hopefully I'll be able to keep my sense of humor this season, which is essentially how I've survived the past 5 years of R-M football.  But hope springs eternal, and I'm looking forward to seeing how we do this year.

Looks like the Quakes could have one heck of a season!

Thanks.  My sense of humor has kept me going since my freshman year many seasons ago.  The Quakers were so bad in my day, the fans would yell for the home team to let the kickoff go in the end zone.  That was always good for twenty yards and, we reasoned, that would be our best play all day!  It was.  lol  The four years I was in college, Guilford was 3-36.  Ouch!  I was not, I might add, on the football team!  They were 2-2 my freshman year and then proceeded to lose 32 in a row until Homecoming my Senior year.  Who did we beat to end the streak?  RMC, of course, 36-21.  lol

I agree.  If the Quakers find a Defense, they might have a good year.

Thanks for thumbs up on my musing.
Laughter's the play that I'm choosing.
Hope does spring eternal -
Stop fall losses infernal!
Here's to Jackets and Quakers - not losing!

Quaker Notes (please, no jokes about breakfast cereals - that would go against the grain!):

1st link - Mario Paylor has been named Guilford Captain for the 2006 season and the Quakers report to camp on August 10.  Congratulations, Mario.

2nd link - Photo history of Guilford's stadium transformation.  Check out one of last photos showing Guilford's new scoreboard, which is about four times the size of the old one.  Also look at the first photo to see the press box that was razed and then compare it to the new one at the bottom of the page.

I sure hope this is where Bridgewater fans will get to tailgate. :)

Joking aside, your improvements are awesome!  Can't wait until we travel down there ... here's hoping we're both 5-0 at that point!

Not to take away from the discussion about the upcoming seaoson or the following person's accomplishments but here goes...

I was looking at the ODAC football media guide, and in 1982, the ODAC POY was a kicker named Hiter Harris from H-SC. I have never heard of a kicker being named player of the year! I don't know anything about what he did that season, but a kicker being named POY seems a bit absurd to me if he was simply just a kicker and did nothing else. Does anyone know anything about this person's 1982 season??

To the best of my recollection (I graduated BC in 1982, and lived in Richmond for a year so got full H-SC sports coverage in the RT-D), Hiter Harris won all of HS-C games for them.  A quick refresher look at the ODAC site shows HS-C on the ODAC that year with a 4-1 record, and was 4-4-1 overall, and I think he scored the game winning points in each Hampster victory.

Thanks.  It is a big improvement & looks great, but, as Trenches & I have said before, the Visitors' side also needs refurbishing.  I know money's an issue, but I believe 1st class programs have comparable accommodations on both sides of the field.  Hopefully, that will happen next summer.

The Eagles can tailgate (almost) anywhere they want.  I just don't want you to have another Victory celebration on our turf!  lol  As Oct. 14 gets closer let me know who's coming & hopefully we can meet/talk in person.  I'd recommend you try to tailgate in the parking area along the 3rd base line at McBane Field.  There are some shade trees between the rows and your walk to the football field is almost nothing.  As early as many of you arrive, you should get a spot.  Here are links to a couple of campus maps:

HSC85

Hello,

I am a first time poster.  I wanted to shed some light on the '82 HSC season since I was a member of that team.   The Tigers that year was led by the defense.  In fact the defensive co-ordinator was Coach Frank Miriello (sp), currently head coach at W & L.  Three of the four ODAC wins were by three points.  One of them was 3 - 0 and another was 6 - 3.  Hiter Harris was the kicker that made the difference in all of the ODAC wins that year.

I enjoy reading the posts and I am looking forward to the upcoming season.  Surely sometime this century someone will be Bridgewater.

Welcome aboard, HSC85.  Thanks for the insight on Hiter Harris and the '82 season.  I figured he had to have won many of your games with some clutch FG kicking.   You said, "Surely sometime this century someone will be Bridgewater."  I'm sure you meant "beat" Bridgewater, because I can think of 10 teams that want to do that this fall!  :)

Is this the same Hiter Harris that's has/had an association with PNC Financial/Bank?

Honestly, how many 45 year old men could there be in Virginia named Hiter Harris?  :)
