The Buccaneer.com camp notes today.....

LB Jermaine Taylor had a very physical PBU against Stovall in this same drill. Taylor arrived a beat after the ball and collided with Stovall while going for the strip. The play knocked Stovall to the ground, though Taylor quickly helped him up.

PBU = pass break up

Sounds as though he's having a good camp.  What are Jermaine's chances to make the Bucs this year?  How many guys do NFL teams keep at the final cut - 45, 49 or something like that?  I know they also have a "taxi squad" of players who can't dress for official games unless someone is put on the DL.  I can't remember all the details.
At this point I wouldn't say JT's chances are too good.  He's listed as 4th team SLB.  He told me he's not getting many reps at LB, but getting plenty of work on the blitz package and special teams.  He'll have to really excel there to have any chance.   The Bucs wanted him to join the practice squad late in the season last year, but he declined.  We're all still pulling for him!

LLama, Kid, and OLINE mom,

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods and goodluck to BC this year also.  From what it sounds like they have a real nice team coming back and could very well be poised for another run at the playoffs.  I would look forward to a BC vs Thiel meeting again and also to some more of OLines moms famous brownies!!! Take care

All is well in Cleveland and also Thiel is looking tough already in camp which is exciting.

Cleveland Cartel

Hope to see you maybe down here where it's a tad warmer?  All the best for a great season!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Thanks.  That's what I figured, but I'm pulling for him.  I've never met Jermaine, but I'm sure he's a great guy.  A few years back, former Guilford WR Junior Lord stuck a couple of NFL seasons on the taxi squad for the Redskins and maybe one other NFL team.  Since then, he's been in Europe, the XFL and now plays for the Las Vegas Gladiators in the AFL.  Former Guilford WR Chris McKinney has had a similar professional career and is still playing Arena football in Georgia.  It's just tough for a DIII guy to break through.  I'm for anything such as this that increases the visibility and credibility of ODAC sports, so good luck to Jermaine!  Even if it's a long shot, you've got to try so you'll have absolutely no regrets!

Great article.. I imagine that if Coach Colbert was able to sell the Steelers on the scrimmage idea it would be a GREAT recruiting tool for PA kids.  Playing college football is a great draw but the chance to play against an NFL team as an add on is pretty a sweet deal.  Not to mention the national coverage a scrimmage like that would bring.

Sounds like Coach Colbert is doing an A+ job already with his new team.. I wouldn't expect anything less!

I assumed Coach Colbert was joking.

That scrimmage would look something like this;

He may have been joking.. but you never know with Coach Colbert.. even if he were able to squeeze a few hours out of a few of the players to help coach his players it would be a great recruiting tool and a great tool to develop his players.   My high school brought in two ex-NFL players to help us with our O-line and D-line and not only did I learn a lot but we were given the chance to go one on one with the player .. after being hit by one of those guys I was never afraid to take a hit again!  :D  A D3 player would benefit greatly from practicing with a few NFL guys.

Photos for BC, I will give you my screen name if it makes it easier for you, I can switch to chain gang, or something

How about "GolfPro"!  ;D ;D ;D
.
Thats ok I will keep mine.But I do like Llamaguys ideal about the golf name!!!Will you come out of the woodwork this Saturday and be a real Stone Station Visitor this weekend?

I am taking my daughter back to Tech friday and saturday.  I hope to be at the practice and cook out on saturday, stopping on the way home.  Tournament schedule will hurt my BC game attendance until Homecoming.  My game is a little fragile right now so maybe my screen name should be "golfchop"

GO EAGLES  !!

When my golf game is going badly (which, by the way, is most of the time), I just stop and remember that golf has been defined as "a nice walk ruined."  Then, I just concentrate more on the walk.  I've also noticed that golf is "flog "spelled backwards and that, too, explains a lot.  Sometimes, I think I should stick with bowling as I am yet to lose a bowling bowl.  lol  Peace  PS  Go Quakers!

i assume he was joking, as well, seeing as that would violate ncaa rules, not to mention the thought of casey hampton going up against an 18 yr. old Center, and 2 guards is slightly amusing

Note:  I also posted this here because some ODAC schools play NCWC.

The Associated Press ran a story today which was carried by the Greensboro News and Record about a serious proposal to turn NC Wesleyan into the 17th NC state supported school to be renamed UNC-Rocky Mount.  It's interesting to note that this northeastern part of the state is underdeveloped economically and there is a slight void in the UNC system in the area with nothing from Raleigh (NCSU) to Elizabeth City (ECSU) and Greenville (ECU).  NCSU and ECU already teach classes on the campus and 1300 students are in continuing education while 900 are traditional age students living on the 200 acre campus.   NCWC has admittedly had some financial troubles in their 50 year history, so maybe this is a way to get and stay in the black.  To cover both sides, there is some opposition (including from UNC System President Bowles and some Methodists), but it does seem to have some serious support, especially in the Rocky Mount business community and, one would guess, within the college itself.

Hasanova, I tried to find that NCWC story online, but the only thing that caught my eye on the News-Record site was this headline...

Coming Friday: Judgement (sic) Day for Some Schools :D :o :D ;) ;D
