Great post.

I agree.. my sister attended W&L and I attended BC.. honestly we both ended up with  great jobs.. we both make a very decent money and we're both equally educated.  How a school ranks in some random magazine poll really doesn't mean much.. it's more about the entire college experience and what you make of yourself during that time.  There are plenty of kids at both W&L and BC that are NOT taking advantage of their opportunity and there are plenty of kids that ARE taking advantage of their education.   The sheer number of BC football players that I played with that went on to pursue masters degrees and to medical school is astounding.. (football players are supposed to be dumb right?  ;))   My point is W&L may have a certain number of things that set them apart but every school in the ODAC has several things that set them apart from other schools as well. HSC has an outstanding alumni/senior class relationship when it comes to job placement for example.  I'm not one to take media polls with much weight as we really don't know who creates the lists, we don't know their relationship to those they are creating lists about, etc...throwing numbers out of a magazine out like they mean ANYTHING is somewhat meaningless.  How high your school ranks is similar to preseason football rankings.. does it really mean anything if you go to the #1 school in the country and sit on your butt instead of attending class?   No.  Education is what you make of it.. rankings don't matter.. effort does.

Also,  past championships are pretty meaningless.  It's great W&L played in the Gator Bowl.. but lets be honest, it doesn't mean anything.. it's cool trivia but does it make the 2006 W&L team any better? No.  Does the past 6 BC ODAC titles mean anything to the 2006 team? No.   I would argue experience in the playoffs and winning attitudes that are being carried on by current players are what matter.  The 2001 Nat. Championship game is a nice feather to put in the BC cap but it doesn't help us any.

Don't tell Centre College that the past doesn't matter.  They still brag about their 1921 victory over Harvard.

Emory "won" 17-0.  Going on second hand info.  D was great all day and may be returning to the prominence we used to enjoy defensively.  Our backs ran hard and got up field.  All comments seem positive.

Very, very early but that's encouraging.

who is going to be the primary back for the Wasps this year? I am going to be back home visiting family so I will catch the home opener against Marietta, and I would love to find out what to expect. I don't think I can handle watching them getting smoked like last years opener.

EHC has won 3 D3 Playoff games (3-5 record in the D3 Playoffs overall)

Hey kid....you didnt need to remind me of that 77-point explosion last year in Salisbury......took me a month to not see Sea Gulls and think of that ..... GULP.
:o

Been there before, my friend.  I still recall our 66-0 game, which could have been 112-0 had the Raiders not kicked FGs on first downs.

Needless to say, that was a looooonnggg 346-mile trip back to Bridgewater.

Bad memories Kid.

But it really would have been 77-0.  I was actually counting a touchdown and extra point each time they kicked a field goal.  I don't remember how it became 11 more points, but I remember the 77 points because I graduated high school in '77.

I didn't accept their "sympathy" 66-0 loss.  My official score will always be 77-0.  But it still was a great year.  Also, we stayed in Canton, OH Saturday night, and had to drive home in the snow.  Just added salt to the wound.

I want my Pakownr name back.

Keep in mind all the punt returns they ran out of bounds (on purpose) and how they stopped throwing deep (they had us all day).  Had they played each possession like they were down a score, it could have been in the hundreds.  :o

Here are the game notes for the SU/Catholic game Thursday night. http://www.su.edu/athletics/fb/fbgamenotes06.pdf
Lets hope the SU athletic staff checked all the players grades and what not (unlike last year) so they wont have to forefeit the game again if the Hornets win.  All the ODAC fans that are going to show up I hope you have a good time. Should be alot of fun in Shentel Thursday night to kick off the season. Also we have a brand new game day end zone building along with a visitor rest room building that compleates the construction of Shentel Stadium.

It'll be interesting to see how Guilford does against a sledgehammer ground attack like Ferrum.  We get another ODAC taste for our home opener with E&H....first meeting in nearly 50 years.

EHCPride

E&H will probably go with a backfield by committee.  Tia'von Hamler and LeAndrew Lloyd at fullback.   Tailbacks will be Matt Gillesepe (transfer from MUC- ahead of Kmic on the depth chart most of last year I'm told), Caleb Moore (transfer from Cumberland) and Carlton Bell from Tn. High in Bristol.

Grr ... looks like Ernesto will dump some buckets before the Catholic-Shenandoah game on Thursday.

Kid,

You are correct.  Mount Onion could have scored well over 100 points on that day if they were so inclined.  I really thought BC's defense that year was the best BC D I have ever seen.  I still don't know what happened.

Pat Coleman,

I figured out why I couldn't get my handle back.  I registered with a different email address from what I normally check, so I missed your reply.  I don't think I'll change the email address at this time.  Thanks as always for responding promptly to our requests, although it sometimes takes me awhile to "get it."

Perhaps they should..ESPN calls it the biggest upset in college football history:

However, if we are talking about unusual historical moments, Centre did not have a former VP and then current US Senator expire from a heart attack in the middle of a speech on their campus, so I imagine W&L still has a few unique facts going their way!

Ok Al Roker, a little rain has never stopped anyone from attending a football game. That rain won't be Ernesto rain as it will still be in NC until Friday morning. Just a few showers on Thursday eve. Now as for the BC game on Saturday, that will be some rain. Llamaguy already has an alternative plan. How many people can fit under the Stone Station "Bowl Side" Tent at McDaniel? Reservations are available, so far we have Llamaguy, Kid, Kid's Lady, Kid's pooch, and Hal man. Any others? ;D ;D ;D
