But...Winston Young went out in the first half, and did not return.  Hope it is not serious and he will not miss any more game time.

Any word on Winston's injury, both nature and severity?

I hate to see guys get hurt, but in the first game...jeez.
NO, Tusky, You cannot MOON Dr. Geisert!

Was the BC-McDaniel score pretty indicative of how the game went? Basic domination from BC, and no threat of a comeback from McD this year?

McDaniel's coach said on the postgame show that they needed to recruit some more players, that they just aren't at the level that they have been.  It didn't sound too promising for the Terror for this season, and didn't look too promising on the field today.

Did anyone else at the BC-McDaniel game feel like we were getting a little bit of a flashback to BC 2001 on the offensive side of the ball?    The option without fumbles, a quick running QB again, a large target in Copeland downfield, and Young doing his thing in the first half (Carter not doing too shabby in the 2nd half either).  It was only one game, but I couldn't help getting a little excited watching the offense operate on McDaniel's D.

Really, the only negative was Highfill missing badly on a half-dozen passes.  The receivers were usually open... he just overthrew 2 or 3 (including the 3rd and goal pass to a wide open receiver in the end zone), and short hopped a few of the side line passes.  That needs to be fixed by conference play, but he also made some really crisp completions too.

But sheesh... the Oline gave Highfill all day to throw the ball, and the Dline had Baer running all day.   Hard to say how good the secondary was, but I don't think they had any passes completed for over 20 yards.

Mizzou,

You are correct about the line play on both sides of the ball.  The defensive line was in McDaniel's backfield all day.  I have a terrible memory, but it seems like McD's o-line was a strong point in the past.  Highfill had all day to pass.  I loved our o-line.  I give them the game ball.  Jeff will NOT be overthrowing receivers by mid-season.  Those open receivers will be catching TD passes long before then.  In fact, I predict that he will have such a great game next week against SU, that he'll be watching Nick Lincoln throw TD passes in the second half.

I try not to get to excited about any one game early in the season, but I think I saw why Kid and Llama were soooo excited by what they saw in practices this summer.

LLama scoled us prior to the GC-Q Ferrum game for not drinking Quaker Koolaid. Damn..... he called it right

Hasa I know you are not staring at a bottle of Jack this day. Good for you

Congrats Quakers.

Anyday a Panther gets whacked is a good day
Abnrgr - It was definitely a good day in the Quaker state!  The Quakers were a well-oiled machine yesterday.  :)  It was especially sweet after the 41-7 spanking we took at their place on opening day in 2005.  I've consistently told everyone it took a couple of games last season for the new coaches and new players to get it together.  Yesterday, I saw a team that looked virtually unstoppable on Offense.  Vogelbach threw for six TDs!  He now has 43 TDs passing and 2 TDs rushing in 11 games.  The Guilford record book is being rewritten almost weekly and, if he stays healthy, I see the ODAC and DIII records requiring some updates as well.  Look at how many yards Ferrum got on Punt Returns - zero - that's because a) Guilford rarely punted, b) when the Quakers did punt they nailed it inside the 5 and, to be honest, c) our punter's knee once touched on a low snap at the 21 and FC got a gift TD.   Every week, I can't wait for the next game!  By, the way, I did enjoy a celebratory Mike's hard lemonade with the burger I grilled last night.  Hopefully, I'll have to kept the fridge stocked this fall!  Go Quakers!  Peace

Agreed with Has's post. Quick stats for you:
Team:
71 plays, 424 yds; 8 of 12 on 3rd down; 7-7 in red zone... it said they had 25 rushes but i dont know where they got if from. i thought it'd be 20 tops.

Ind:
Josh Vogelbach 31-46-1-338 (6 tds, New GC record... old record was 5, which he threw 5 times last year. He has also hit 300 yds in 6 straight games)
Chris Barnette 11-134 (1 td)
Joe Joyner 7-73 (2 tds)
Micah Rushing 7-68 (3 tds)

Langston lead tackling with 8 solo 4 ast

... GC is picking up right where they left off. 3rd quarter they came out slow, but got in done when it came down to it. Great win fellas.

1st opening day win for the quake since '99.
5 game win streak (6 of 7). It's not BC, but gotta start some where.  ;)
Thanks, Trenches.  It was a good day for Quaker football.  Here are some things printed today in the Greensboro News & Record and on Guilford's website:

Vogelbach actually now has 7 straight games with over 300 yards passing.  It started in the Game 5 win over Greensboro last fall.

There were indeed 25 rushing attempts:  Cooper 12-49, Bobak 9-38, Vogelbach 2-12, Rushing 1-1, Team 1-(-14) for a total of 86 yards.

I'll be in the new seats at Homecoming.  Hopefully, we'll get a chance to meet.  Peace

Good Morning All,
Well what a great opening day for the ODAC! RMC,BC,Guilford, and Catholic(Thurs. night) all win, E&H hangs close in their opener. The only hiccough was HSC at Sewanee.

Yes Guilford did exactly as I thought. One point some failed to see was that Guiford was opening their new and improved stadium. Did you really think they would come out flat on such a historic day in the turn around of Guilford football? I said early that the Guilford game with BC will be the "game-of-the-year" in the ODAC in 2006. Oh, and I wasn't around to drink the losing kool-aide in the past so that didn't sway me in this year's Ferrum prediction. ;D

BC didn't disappoint in their opener either. One difference in this year's team is that their swagger is seen through their play and not their post play celebrations. The 2006 team is team first, the only stat that matters is the "W" at the end of the day. This could be the deepest across the board team BC has ever had and they will only get better with each gameday experience.

Finally, glad to see such a good turnout at McDaniel in the rain. Myself, Hug, and Doff enjoyed everyone's company at Stone Station, afterall who likes to drink alone? We will continue to hold it down until Skoaltrain gets back from the beach! (who schedules a beach trip in the middle of football season :o) Looking forward to a great tailgate at the real Stone Station next Saturday. We will be serving Doff's famous BBq chicken and of course lots of  BC talk and socialization. See You There!

Come out and join "the ride" in 2006!

It was nice to see ODAC teams playing some defense this week.  I hope that trend continues.  Good wins by BC and Guilford over teams that are traditionally strong opponents.  RMC, Catholic and E&H all seemed to improve on last year's opening preformances.  This is looking to be a good year for the entire conference (hopefully good enough to get two teams in the playoffs, but then again I am getting a bit ahead of myself with that one).

The ODAC Report for week one is posted: http://www.odaconline.com/06fbreport.pdf

Offensive POTW was a no brainer, but the defensive one was questionable.

I think freshman Bill Gross of Catholic should have gotten it.  He was all over the field on Thursday against Shenandoah, helping the Cardinals hold the Hornets offense to 84 total yards.  Gross, who didn't even start, finished with 14 tackles (11 solo) and a forced fumble in the fourth quarter when the Cards were only up 10-6.  Then there was senior Tony Burt (DE) of Bridgewater who had 5 TFL (3 sacks) against McDaniel.

Matt - please explain to Olinemom from your own first hand experience that there is no warm, dry media center at McDaniel.  ;D

Congratulations and best of luck the rest of the way BC. In ten years, I have never seen such a one-sided, thorough whipping of the Terror... albeit a very young Terror.

Anyone up for some POKER Friday evening? I will be glad to host, or we can do it at Stone Station.

I guess I really meant the Press Box.  all nice and glassed-in.  It looked much drier than where I was.  But I will say that it is a beautiful venue, the field itself is fantastic.  What kind of surface is it?  Luckily we got there in time to set up on our side so that we had a bit of room before it was a sea of green.  Probably shouldn't have complained about the weather as I remember how hot it was 2 years ago and I'd choose this past Saturday's weather over that any day!!  One thing several BC fans were asking was where were the stands that were there 2 years ago.  They were a bit rickety, but at least there was a place to sit if you didn't bring a chair.  I decided to bring a chair this time and an umbrella the size of Cleveland for which I was very thankful.  We loaned you Kid for a couple of years, but we've got him back and we're going to keep him!!!!   He's wonderful!!! (exept at election time ;D ;D ;D)  Just teasing, Kid.

Congratulations to Josh Vogelbach of Guilford and Gabe Jones of Randolph-Macon for winning the first Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively.   We didn't win them all, but a very nice start for the ODAC in Week 1.  Hopefully, a good omen for the season.
