I really don't have a problem with HSC's schedule.  It's their decision on who to schedule.  BC didn't want to play CNU the week before HSC this year, so they didn't schedule the annual meeting this year.  That's fine too.

I think in year's past, people got particularly annoyed by the thought that Salisbury could schedule a lot of weak teams, go 10-0, and 'steal' one of the few playoff spots available.  With playoff expansion, this isn't as much of an issue.  If HSC goes 10-0, they've got a Pool A bid anyway.  If they don't win the ODAC and finish 9-1, or 8-2, then HSC will need to be content with the decision on whether their Strength of Schedule is strong enough to get them in the playoffs.

From a fan's point of view, I'd rather see HSC play some better teams early, just to see how that offense could stack up against some other good non-conference teams in the region.   That's me as a fan.  There are a lot of other things (debateably more important things) that a coach/AD considers.

One other thing that hasn't been talked about a lot...

Bridgewater usually gets a lot of credit for having a decently tough schedule.  I won't argue this, but I will point out that BC has curved the schedule away from being as tough as it could be...no more CNU (2 years too late to get a home playoff game)...dropped JHU the season before their 9-win seasons began.  BUT, they did keep CNU for awhile after they were good, and added Hanover.  It appears that since BC saw the advantage of being the #1 seed in a region, they've tried to schedule just tough enough to have a shot at the #1 seed.  But they didn't do this until they made the playoffs.  HSC's schedule looks like one that would be content with a playoff bid and first-round home game.

Back in the first recent winning season, 2000, BC had Maryville on its schedule, a John Hopkins team coming off a losing season, and 2 baby programs... CNU and Shenandoah.  The one tough team...Western Maryland from the CC.  This year, just like last, HSC plays JHU, arguably the best team in the CC.  In this regard, there isn't a big difference between BC's schedule in its first playoff run, and HSC's schedule right now.    If anything, I'd argue HSC's is harder.

supposedly he seperated his shoulder in the first quarter.... Gavin Hayes played most of the game. There has been no report on how long he is out, but being in DC I am not privy to much more than what the Herald Couriers website tells me

it is nice that there is a rivalry brewing with the eagles but i must stress "brewing" since, according to the h-sc media guide, our all-time record is 50-11 against bc.  you guys had your seasons in the sun while we were getting over the lean years following jobu but it looks like h-sc might just be building something.  it takes awhile to get over the hill but once you have crested it, watch the snowball grow.  hopefully this is the year we crest the hill.

That is a good one, "Spin Master SMMtiger". I agree you are ahead in the battles against Bridgewater; however, you have then went on to lose the "War of the ODAC"! Case and point, All-time ODAC Football Championships, HSC =4, BC =5. Not to mention the last 3 years HSC LOST the ODAC Championship as a direct result of BC! And lean years you say, way to dis- 1's, and Ricca's years at HSC, LOL. You have had a great team the last 3 years, just 1 game short of a championship. So I agree its not a "The Game" type rivalry like RMC, but you also have to agree the ODAC Championship goes thru BC, atleast until "you crest that proverbial hill named Bridgewater as you mentioned!" ;)

If the Emory & Henry game upset you that bad, maybe you shouldn't attend anymore. I guess when you played for them you never lost a game. It will take sometime to see who is the best guy for whatever postion.  As for defense they played their game.  As for the yelling and excitement, its allowed when the coaches say its allowed. These boys practice harder now than they did a few years ago. Sorry if this sounds harsh.  And for any ODAC team, most people stick by their team when their winning or losing. I guess you'll be back when they start winning!  Football Parent

Looking ahead to week three, Hanover is giving up 569 yards a game through the first two games.  I know they played W&J this past weekend, but does anyone know Bridgewater's record for touchdowns in a season?  Is it possible that Marcus might set it this week?   :o

Good point there Llama with BC leading 5 to 4 in ODAC championships.  I guess its easy to live in the past if you have a good one like HSC, but i would much rather live in the present.  :)

Unless you're living in Catholic's present.... :P

Mizzou-

I agree with you about HSC's schedule. Since I have been around, we have dropped D-1AA Davidson inorder to pick up another D3 team which always helps whether it is supposed to or not concerning the playoffs.  HSC now plays a tough, grind it out Dickinson. HSC has also dropped an 0-10 Maryville team in place of a great Hopkins team. Since Marty has been around at HSC, he has increaed the strength of schedule.

Obviously the lower level ODAC teams dont help the schedule strength, but in the next couple years I can see the potential for a strong ODAC. New coaches, better players, better league. Basically, in the near future, I believe that there will not be any problems with any ODAC team having a weak schedule...

and by the way...i'd pay to see #1 wear a bow tie or pop his collar

Oh yeah, and where did i get these -10 karma points from?  Was that you Pat from the spat we had last week?

Llama, can't make the trip to Hanover, in the semi's Sat.  Have a fun and safe trip.  The 95.3 broadcast was the funniest, worst and most un-informed broadcast I have ever heard.  I even listened on the way home. So sad.

Congrats on the win Sunday then. Make a few birdies for us and we will tailgate alittle harder in Indiana in your absence. Deal? ;D
